I made this video 2 years ago and I want to say for all of you watching and installing your shifter, INSTALL THE SHIFTER THE OPPOSITE WAY that I have it in the video. Just simply flip the silver sifter handle piece to the other side and bolt it up. This way the shifter will not be leaning forward towards the radio controls and it will be properly aligned the way the stock shifter was. Also, I found that I had to put some washers in between the Silver shifter piece and the purple piece that mounts to the shifter base. I needed to do this to eliminate wobble and play within the shifter handle. If you're experiencing the same thing try that out!

The shifter is installed backwards you can technically put it on either way but it will be angled awkwardly forward if you do it the direction shown in the video either way good video man!!

Good video my man.! Have one myself in my GS and about to install one in my GST. Food for thought for you (and anyone else watching/reading this.) now is the time to replace your shifter bushings while you have it taken apart this far. There are a total of 6 of the nylon inserts (the weird spacer you didn't put back.) and the little cup bushing at the bottom of the shifter. Replacing all of these will make your setup 1000% more solid and no play in it. Also, I would suggest adding a little spacer between the bottom of the purple mount and the OEM shifter mount that you attached it too. That "small" amount of wobble will eventually make grooves in the purple piece and cause play in your shifter, as well as give you a false sense of being in gear when shifting. (I know all of this information from first hand installing my Megan racing shifter and after a year of use, had to go in and replace all of these items to fix the play in the shifter again.) so save yourself the hassle now.!

The 6 nylon inserts and cup that I'm talking about, can all be purchased on "jnz tuning" and are only about a dollar a piece.

As somebody else mentioned the shifter is installed backwards in this video. It does make a difference as the this ends up angling the shifter slightly away from the driver instead of toward the driver. There are also indents on the side of the shifter which should line up with the pivot riser (purple anodized piece). Installing the shifter backwards also slightly misaligns the shifter cable laterally from the original position. Check out the install video from Jafromobile as he shows what should be done if you're installing this kit and the purple anodized piece wobbles around like it does in the video here. Ideally you want to eliminate any play between this piece and the stock part which it sits on top of.

Nice install video. Definitely will help me install mines...just curious though, does it matter which way the actual shifter is installed? I see a lot of images where its installed the other way...

When I was looking at reference pics and video, I saw it oriented this way. As I'm looking at it It probably can be oriented either way, it should work. Now you got me thinking and I think I might try to flip it around. Either way though the procedure is the same.

The top bolt on mine that bolts onto the purple collar does not fit at all, its way too long

Asa Spades so you’re saying there is too much play? Later on I did find that there is play between the shifter and the collar with that bolt. I later used most of the washers that came with the kit to close up as much gap as I could.

Looks like its be hard to get a cd into the head unit with this shifter. Also it doesnt fix my biggest gripe about the stock shifter, that annoying forward angle.

How I have it Installed in the video, I don't really have any big or serious problems, but I will say that 5th gear and reverse can be a little tough to get into sometimes. Supposedly you can flip the shifter around and that might eliminate that problem.

Can you remove the shift knob off the shifter?

Yes the knob easily twists right off of the shifter.

Does the stock knob fit on it?

I honestly have not tried to put the stock one on, but it should fit as the shifter is the same thread pitch as the stock one.

What about for automatic. The knob on it is 😷😷. I wonder if there custom knobs for automatics.

From what I've read nobody makes aftermarket ones, but people just buy different knobs and make them fit. Refer to this thread www.dsmtuners.com/threads/automatic-shift-knob.38196/

I actually came to see if anyone else had issues charging their phone while shifting my shifter hits the charger and messed up the cigarette charger outlet

Yeah, you should install the shifter handle the opposite way that I say to do it in the video. You will not hit anything anymore that way :)
