How to: 8th & 9th Gen Civic Brembo Conversion

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hope this video helps with your Brembo conversion on your 8th or 9th gen Civic. It’s a very upfront and simple swap.
There’s two options for brake discs, which I chose option #1 to make the swap simple.
Option #1 is using S2000 discs. The brake pads do have a very slight overhang, but it’s not an issue as long as you maintain the overhang.
Option #2 is using TL Type S discs, but you have to either put a spacer behind the disc or machine the caliper. If a spacer is used, then you’ll need extended wheel studs.
Parts needed:
-3rd Gen TL Type S calipers
-S2000 rotors
-Brake pads
-4 total 14x1.5mm bolts
-Brake fluid
-Thread lock (Medium strength/blue)
Tools needed:
-Jack & jack stands
-19mm socket
-17mm socket
-14mm socket/wrench
-11mm wrench
-Impact/Breaker Bar
-Grinder with cutting wheel
-Ratchet
-Bit Impact Driver with Philips bit (or Philips screw driver and vise grips)
-Mallet or Hammer
-Drill
-9/16 or 14mm drill bit
-Bottle and hose to bleed calipers
-Rags

And as far as I can tell the s2000 rotors are identical diameter to the si so is there any benefits of using them im not aware of … thanks man , great video

No difference between the stock rotor and the s2000 rotor. There will be pad overhand with the s2000 rotor. The ideal way to do this swap is with a spacer behind the rotor and a TL-S Rotor. The stock and s2000 rotors are both 300mm. I do not know the size difference between stock and TL-S calipers.

  • @BSD_Productions

Micah Myricks The information you’re providing is inaccurate. The S2k and stock rotors are not same. Just because the diameter is the same, doesn’t mean they’re the same. The rotors have different offsets. Also, for TL-S rotors, you need extended studs to be safe.

Hey man, I logged in to try to send you a message but couldn’t so I figured I’d leave a comment. This looks awesome and I’m glad you put this vid up. I soon plan on swapping on TL-S Brembos that I’m having refinished. I am eventually going to go with you described as Option #2, w/ the spacers and studs and all TL-S parts. But, for now I am thinking about using Option #1 as a temporary solution. When I go to switch over to Option #2, I’ll be replacing my Master cylinder as well for more fluid movement. My questions are: -What do you think about the overhang on the S2K rotors? Is it minimal enough to not really worry about, because I do push my 07 FA5 pretty hard. -If you’re using the OEM reservoir (and I know your car is a 9th, not an 8th), how did the brake pedal feel and the operation overall work? Any sloppiness? Just wanted to talk to someone who has done this! I can send you my contact info if needed, thanks bro!

  • @BSD_Productions

    @BSD_Productions

    3 жыл бұрын

Sorry for the delay in response! Anyways... 1. The overhang isn’t much of an issue. Currently have well over 10k miles on the setup now, and no issues. That includes hard braking. At low speeds like backing out of the driveway you can hear a slight squeak. Of course using different brake compounds will be the biggest variable, though I’ve never heard of anyone having major issues other than noise. 2. So the car in the video is actually my wife’s 9th gen, I have a 8th (still factory calipers). Anyways, she didn’t really notice much difference in the pedal. I did notice the pedal has to travel a little further, but nothing to be concerned about. The car overall stops better, and the pedal travel isn’t much more than stock. I would feel comfortable taking it as is to a track day. Any other questions just let me know, and I can give you my FB info. Hope that helps!

Never had to, hasn’t changed since installing the calipers and doesn’t affect the stopping power. Though when I drive my 8th Gen Si, I can definitely tell the pedal travel difference compared to my wife’s 9th with the Brembos. In my opinion, it’s just preference. I wouldn’t be afraid to go on a track day as is.

  • @BSD_Productions

Negative. TL-S rotors need a spacer behind them and recommended extended studs. The S2K rotors fit perfect, but are a smaller diameter causing slight pad overhang. Not a big deal with the overhang, but the pads will develop a lip overtime and start squeaking/squealing. You’ll just need to take the pads out and grind the lips down every once in a while.

I wouldn’t see what not other than the master cylinder might be smaller on the Lx than the Si. I know the stock Si brakes are bigger than the Ex, Lx, etc. With the Brembos the pedal on the Si does travel a bit further, but isn’t an issue.

Are the bolts the ones that came off the actual tl type s? Or are those aftermarket?

They’re off a TL Type-S, but you can buy them new. And a good price of a set of calipers is about $300, though you can find them for less.

I found a set of tl-s calipers for 187 on Amazon. What's the length of the bolts? I know they are m14x1. 5. But don't want to buy a set too short or too long.
