HOW TO: 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Extended Wheel Stud Installation

Jason and Josh go through the process of installing extended wheel studs in Josh's 2023 Toyota GR Corolla including removal and installation of the rear hub assembly. The OEM wheel studs are very short and if you install aftermarket wheels with conical seat style lug nuts, there may not be enough thread engagement. Extended studs are the answer.
Relevant info:
-Lug nut torque: 76 ft/lb
-Rear axle hub nut torque: 158 ft/lb
-OEM style lug nuts with open end: Dorman 611-168

I've used the front pitch mount bolt as the center jack point. I also use a jack pad to protect the bolt.

i feel like using the press on the wheel bearings was kind of a flex lol

Thanks for the guide :) Is it much harder/more effort to pull the hub out of the front rather than bending the dust shield?

Thank you! And yes, pulling the hub is significantly more work.

I know the fronts were short, but I thought the rears were ok. They'd even be more ok if you removed the rear spacers if using aftermarket wheels

How much did you torque the rear wheel bearing hub bolts?

Thanks for the video. Just completed my studs tonight. Can you post the torque specs for the brake calipers though?

Thank you! I was only able to find caliper bolt torque for the base model corolla which is 79ft/lb. I'm not sure if that is the same for the GR or not. but I would think that would be enough. When in doubt, I'd rather a little too tight than too loose. I've been working on cars for a long time, so these were tightened to the good old German torque spec "gootntite" 😅

@@teamturner4300 yeah I torqued to 80 ft/lb which should be enough. The 4 hub assembly bolts I torqued to 50, as they were 14mm. Afraid to torque more than that. They were pretty easy to remove anyway from the factory.

You hand tightened the stud in? Is it flush behind the hub? I used an impact gun and still couldn’t get it flush the way the factory stud is.

@@murk4545 Yes. The studs are in all the way. I was able to tighten them down and you can tell when they are all the way in because they get really hard to tighten any more. We also retorqued the lug nuts after a few miles to make sure everything was solid

Do wheel spacers alleviate the need for these?

If you got spacers that bolt on, then yes those may work.

We did not. It did not interfere with the caliper bracket or anything so we just left it bent out a bit.
