How those with disabilities can save money without losing government benefits

Parenting comes with a lot of joy but also responsibility. For children with disabilities there is even more to think about, especially making sure they have money to last their entire lives. Now, there's a valuable tool that can help called an "ABLE account." CNBC's Sharon Epperson reports.

the reason why only 46000 out of 8 million accounts are open, is because the remaining 7.95 million people with disabilities that are eligible are struggling to survive let alone have enough help and money to save for later on

So if you're disabled over 26, you can't qualify???!!! That's extremely dumb and useless!!! Disability is disability regardless of age!!

The ABLE accounts are for individuals with significant disabilities with an onset of before 26. An example is a individual HAS to have been labeled intelligently disabled before their 18th birthday to qualify for SSI for their disability. This is for children/young adults who will not be able to ever care for themselves without a support system.

For one it's because social security administration makes enemies out of everyone that has a claim instead of giving them information about what is possible for them why aren't the employees at social security disability administration really try to help people know what they qualify for. the prossess seems corrupted based on whether they want to discriminate against you or not the employees at social security administration can pretty much pick and choose who they will help or who they won't help sounds mean doesn't it but what I'm saying is true even if they deny it

Hi Jamie, I am also from Ontario, Canada. I started a registered disability savings plan (RDSP) account with my bank for my son. It allows you to put in a certain amount of money each year/month and the government will add a certain amount to the account each year up to a maximum. I deposit a set amount every month to the account and any extra when I can. Look into it if you can. I assume you would be able to deposit the money from your collectibles into the RDSP.
