How This Skydiver Survived a Horrific Fall
Jordan Hatmaker incredibly survived a skydiving accident in November of 2021. It was her 16th solo jump, which, "in the skydiving world, that's like super new," she tells Inside Edition Digital. Her main parachute didn't come out and she gravity pulled her towards the ground. "It all happened really quickly. So when I was headed towards the ground, I was just thinking this is really going to hurt. I didn't think that I would sustain the injuries that I had."

I broke my c2 3 times horseback riding. They screwed it back together multiple times and I missed the spinal cord every single time. The vertebrae I broke should have ended my life or paralyzed me immediately. I am making a full recovery. I carried two babies to term with my spine broken in between spinal surgeries. With God anything is possible. I had to learn to walk again after I lost the nerves to my left knee. It took 4 grueling years but I got back in the ballet studio this month. God is so good!!!!

This happened to an ex bf of mine when he was 26. He was an experienced instructor and he was taking a guy on a tandem jump and it was the guys first time. He froze with terror and failed to pull the chord on the chute while my ex was shouting instructions at him. They plummeted to the ground and my guy was conscious through all of it. He was left a paraplegic while the other guy walked away with no injuries. It changed my guys life....he had been a champion kickboxer and loved his rugby and soccer. He suffered burning pain in his legs for the rest of his life. I used to massage them. He was still able to drive and he could walk a bit with calipers but he was mostly in a wheelchair. He suffered awful depressions and nothing could bring him out of it. He eventually gave up on life, didn't take care of himself and died in hospital of an infection when he was in his 40's.

This reminds me of the Emma Carey skydiving accident. 2 brave and inspiring women that survived a horrific accident.
There's another woman here on KZread with a similar story (pilot chute wrapped around her foot) and she was doing a tandem jump. (Raleigh Link). That's too much risk for me... A friend of mine snapped both of her legs in a skydiving accident. The fall was videotaped and they played the song “ Everyone Hurts” for the background music as you can see ambulances, and people running to help her.. lucky to be alive for sure.
As a scuba diver, I totally admire the people who willingly jump out of planes. Going deep underwater doesn’t scare me at all, but the thought of falling through the sky from that high up terrifies me. I can not imagine having to be in this girls position. Mad respect to all you sky diving psychopaths out there. Stay safe ✌️
One thing is for certain about skydiving is you’ll hit the ground, chute or no chute. Glad she survived.
And that is why we (skydivers) always practice our emergency procedures. After the bridal of the pilot chute wrapped around her leg, she should have pulled the cutaway handle first, then the reserve handle second. Instead, she wasted precious time trying to unwrap the bridal from around her leg. The AAD (Automatic Activation Device) fired off the reserve parachute which she said caused the closing pin to slip out, which caused the main chute to fall of of the container and deploy into a down plane malfunction. Had she had time to address that malfunction, she should have realized that the reserve chute was the dominant chute and she should have tried to cutaway the main chute. She is very lucky that she is alive.
Unbelievable Miracle!!!
She's very lucky to have been able to recover enough to climb Everest about a year later. I know someone who had a lot more skydiving experience and just had a rough/fast landing one day and suffered a spinal cord injury at the neck level and is now quadriplegic.
You could see how traumatized she is when talking about it
Glad she's okay ❤️🤍
brave women altogether --wow you take alot risks--one life --best of luck to you
that one word no could have saved everything
I am happy she survived, but she clearly didn't take her training seriously enough. She should know exactly what to do in these situations. 1. As she said, she should have pulled her reserve. She fought the malfunction way too long. A high-speed malfunction gives you very little time, and emergency procedures should have been done more or less immediately. 2. There is only 1 thing to do with a downplane, CUTAWAY! 3. Her attitude towards jumping is dangerous. As Dan BC says (champion skydiver with over 30000 jumps), expect everything that can go wrong to go wrong on every jump. Basically, be prepared for the worst. I don't have that many jumps but would never step foot on a jump plane without knowing exactly what to do in all the possible situations. I hope she uses this experience to become a safer skydiver if she decides to continue jumping and starts drilling in her ep's like her life depends on it because it does.
Watching this as I’m about to do my first skydive in a week.

Tandem skydiving with a professional is amazing and so much less scarier than you think. You don’t lose your stomach the way you do on a rollercoaster, because you’re already moving in the airplane you jump out of. I guarantee you, any roller coaster at Six Flags will be a scarier ride due to g-forces & your organs being swayed around. The scariest part of 1st time skydiving is the plane ride up, not the jump. Like a hot air balloon ride, it’s shockingly quiet up there- you can even have a chat.
