This is similar to “deepfake” tech - deepfakes utilize CGI. It’s a CGI-rendered imposition of a person’s likeness encoded over another person’s face. The pros I’ve interviewed in this particular vocation tend to avoid saying deepfake since it’s generally used in a negative connotation to “fake” people out to believe something is real when it isn’t. Deepfake would imply that machine learning was used (deep learning) for the face. They might have done that but they might have also done it by hand in which case it would be incorrect to call it a deepfake.

But seeing how most people have no idea this exists still, they don't have much to worry about. Truth is the technology is pretty old now and has been perfected quite a lot. They can fake anyone saying anything, they even have voice emulation and real time (live) face/voice tracking and replication onto any random person in video.

Another cool note is that they actually had to make her a bit younger than in season 1. Eleven escaped hawkins lab in 1983 when she was 12 years old. But the events before and leading up to her battle with One happened 4 years earlier in 1979 when she was only 8 years old.

Millie's wig is the best short hair wig I've ever seen! Looked incredibly real. Whomever made that needs to be official Hollywood wig maker. Phenomenal job 👏🏾

I love how we just sorta collectively call s1 el "baby eleven" as if she wasn't 10+ years old

The young actress did a great job! Very theatrical and she listened to Millie very well because I thought it was very good CGI as in the whole person

They did such a great job with this. I didn't even ask myself how they pulled it off when I watched those scenes, it just seemed so natural.

Ok ngl when they showed younger EL in the season I laughed so hard. They Made her sooo small lmao. It just felt so weird seeing her young again even if it was CGI

Using this type of movie magic gives you a glimpse of what the character really looks like without actualy knowing its the actors/actresses face potraying that character

Yes. Everyone had to shave their head, including the stunt doubles and other numbers. Wigs are expensive to customize and take a lot of production time. Millie is a working actress with many projects lined up, so it was an endeavor creating the three wigs for her. She had to shave her head for the first season and knew what she was getting into.

What I like about this is that didn’t overuse Martie or that cgi! It was clever that they found a way to show us those flashbacks without doing that imho.

I love cgi and special effects it’s such a cool process

They were so careful and respectful with the de-ageing. I thought it looked a lot better than the de-ageing you see in recent Star Wars stuff (that de-ageing is still awesome too)

Another thing is her head movements, looks... too slow and smooth at the same time. Also going back to the make up thing, her forehead is as smooth as processed clay
