it definitely goes both ways, you can be too loose and have children that grew up entitled to everything and without any morals whatsoever. not exactly the same, but check out the single motherhood rates within certain communities and the link between crime and poverty that can pretty much completely be linked to parenting and childhood.

One of his victims was a bar owner who used to disappear from time to time. She'd show up a few days or weeks later, talking about how she went to Spring Break, or some bikers invited her to go to the coast with them and she had a great time. So when she disappeared this time, nobody worried--they just speculated on where she might be this time. Ed Gein was part of the group discussing it, and he said "Oh, she's at my house." Everybody laughed. She was.

Ed 250% killed his brother. There is no way that the cops didn't know, even during that time era. All of the people who worked with him at the mental hospital said he was a kind man, very very quiet, but never caused any trouble. It's so bizarre. Him and his case have always racked my brain.

Cops used to be useless back then 😂. Everything was based around trust, religion, avoiding the subject of homosexual problems and no I'm not saying it because of Jeffrey Dahmer I haven't even watched the docuseries or whatever but that is just one example. A white male was most likely taken as a good man at plain sight based on his skin.

I'm not sure how to feel about Gein myself. At first glance, it seems obvious that he was a murderer and total freak with the kinds of activities going on down at his farm. But then, you learn about his mental disorders and possible neurological disorders as well, and you're left wondering if you might have ended up the same way living the life that Gein did, during the time that he did. The Midwest in the early to mid 1900's was not exactly a place where just anyone would have been hastily evaluated by a psychiatrist and sent off to an asylum; Gein had the misfortune of living in a rural area where education & resources for mental health was non-existent. It also didn't help that the only discipline and form of guidance that he had was an overly-strict, religious mother that continued to have an abusive hold over him even after she died, no thanks to his psychotic hallucinations. Once Gein was medicated and put on a proper routine that would keep him off his cannibalistic desires, he was a model patient. I understand that he did a lot of disgusting & heinous things, but I also understand that he wasn't all there when doing those horrible things. It's just hard to say or recognize if there was a clear-cut monster here.

@@charlesrobinson5081 True, but you can easily debate back that even if evil is born into a person, the right kind of nurturing can help lessen it, or teach how to manage it. Not to mention, certain conditions can only be gotten with nurture. Disassociative disorders (especially DID), Personality disorders, some forms of psychosis, etc. In general, it seems to be believed that genetics can cause a higher chance of contracting something. For example, most females in my family develop anxiety. But not all of us do. That’s the nurture. Certain serial killers have genes that make them different. Afterall, only Ed was the serial killer, not his brother, but they both suffered. But Ed had the nature AND the nurture, while his brother may only have had the nurture. Anyway, I don’t know why I’m rambling about this, imma go take my ADHD medication now lol

It's sad that so many of these serial killers could of had a normal life if they had been raised right or taken out of their abusive homes when they were still young. Well, abuse as a child doesn't justify their actions it does example them to some degree. This and many other stories just show what abuse can do to some people. It can turn an innocent child into a man who is feared for many years to come.
