How Their Offense Keeps Getting Better

Спорт

A lot of eyes were looking towards Oklahoma City Thunder coming into the 2023-2024 season. After a surpisingly good 2023 season, many expected increased improvment with the addition of a year's experience and Chet Holmgren. But now that we are well past the half way point of the season, it is no secret that one of youngest team in the NBA has once again exceeded expectations and means business.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, Lu Dort, Jalen Williams, and many others from the Thunder are showcasing what it means to be a complete basketball player through how they read and react to different defenses.
In this video essay, we break down the Oklahoma City Thunder's offensive play style and how the team, arranged by Sam Presti and coached by Mark Daigneault, plans to grow together in one of the most interesting playstyles in all of basketball.

A large cap space and possibly two high picks next year. And Chet is developing like a blur. Thanks

Big part of this is OKC elite scouting and dealmaking. It's not a coincidence or some dumb luck that they ended up trading for SGA, drafting Williams, and Chet and Dort. It's a combination of making smart deals to take on bad contracts and get picks and using those picks to draft the right type of talent. SGA was a low draft pick that they got in return for a star in PG. Williams was severely underrated. Many top scouts were questioning Chet and placing Smith and Banchero ahead of him. I am still not sold on Giddey fitting in but he was definitely an underrated pick. And they have a lot more to go! Don't discount OKC to make a major trade this summer to become even better.

SGA is not a low draft pick, but rather a lage lottery pick. Dort is undrafted. As for JDub, scouts doubted him because he stayed in college a little bit longer. Chet, their issue was he's too skinny for the big boys league.

@@MeNoWorryYouNoWorry yeah i meant to say a low lottery draft pick. I remember Knicks passing up both Bridges and SGA to get Knox... urgh.

Giddey is not a bust. Just needs to get over the off court stuff messing with his head.

@@agwager i didn't say he was. Yeah, off the court stuff is kind of disgusting but.. i think he is a talented player but not a good fit with OKC. SGA needs the ball in his hands and he needs more spacers around him. GIddey also needs the ball in his hand to be the best player he can be and his 3pt shot is kind of up and down. He is not developed enough to help compete for a ring. I feel that SGA and even Williams and Chet are ready (or maybe will be ready in a year).

Just went to the thunder x wizards game. Absolutely insane how good they are. 40 points in the first quarter… they could’ve gotten 170 that game but didn’t play their starters for half the game.

Thanks Royce, love your work! Can you please do a video on how teams are not playing defence on Josh Giddey and how he is battling through his toughest season so far. I feel for the Thunder to finish off the season well, they need Josh Giddey to regain his confidence and stop passing the ball in the back court as soon as the crowd starts booing him. I know he is young, but he needs to embrace the opposition crowds and showcase his elite passing ability and get 10+ assists a night. Also I feel he is trying to finish too often at the rim (and missing a lot) instead of perhaps dishing out to the open player when the defence collapses. Last year he was a play maker, this year he looks lost on offence and is nowhere on defence.

I agree his season and confidence has taken a hit. However, I strongly feel that his defense is improving exponentially over this past month. His shot making has been .. not great.. but that’s the beauty of the Thunder .. they have put more emphasis on his role paying which is inbounding and passing. I see him pass a ball to where no one is standing and by the time the ball reaches that spot a team mate is right there for a catch and shoot. His value just can’t been seen on a stat sheet. As for the booing… it’s gotten WAY better recently. I’ve also noticed over this past month that he’s playing in the second half more which is a sign that the organizations confidence in him is returning. 😅 cheers fam.

Chet hit that never before numbers for a rookie, 100 3 s and 100 blocks in a season. I think he will add a few more. My concern is how can we afford the roster when their rookie contracts expire?
