How the Wind Affects Fishing

Growing up I've fished in the outer banks from beaches in Corolla, Duck, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags head. Over the years I have learned a lot, and I hope to share some of my knowledge with you.
In this episode I am Surf Fishing Duck NC. The week I was down, the wind changed every day which effects the water current and temperatures. Many people ask how the wind effects the beach, and how the wind effects fishing. In this episode I hope to show you how a slight change in the wind can effect surf fishing greatly.
If you are planning to fish in Kitty Hawk, NC, or any of the other northern beaches you might want to watch this video. You will learn how to look at the weather forecast and plan accordingly to fish.

I miss the Outer Banks, but we sure are a bit farther out than we were from there before. But the fishing sure is good there. Perhaps we'll make the drive out there again one day!

Thank you so much for the tips I think the not casting out to far was extremely helpful. About an hour in to this morning I hooked into about a 19 inch southern king fish! Thanks so much for the help.

I was down in the middle of June in Kill Devil Hills and nobody was catching anything, they all recommended going down to Oregon Inlet.

There are some good spots on the sound to fish when fishing on the beach is slow. Thanks for tuning in! Tight lines!

I’m in duck right now and I’ve been skunked all week, (I don’t know if it’s because of how choppy it’s been or what) do you have any tips or spots that you think will be useful?

When you set up on the beach, make sure you are on a low point between two humps. This is the deepest part of the trough in front of you. Make sure you aren't casting too far. The fish tend to congregate right in the first drop off in the trough. Use smaller hooks. I usually use size 4 hooks, but sometimes go down to size 6. Keep your line tight. After you cast, make sure your line isn't swaying in the wind. If so, put on a size 2 or 3 oz sinker. Use small pieces of shrimp. They seem to catch fish when nothing else is. Fish when the sun is rising and when the sun is setting. Less people are out, and I feel like the fish are more active. Let me how you do tomorrow, and I will try to help you more. Tight lines buddy! Hang in there!!!

Looking at the weather, the wind should be shifting to the north. This should help you out a bit as well!
