How the power of attention changes everything: Jeff Klein at TEDxGrandRapids

As CEO of Working For Good, Jeff Klein leads marketing and business development campaigns working with the principles of Conscious Capitalism. He also serves as executive director of The Baumann Foundation and director of marketing & business development for Conscious Capitalism, Inc.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

"Attention is more important than thought because the process of thought is emotional, hence delusional and a facade of an imaginary world. Attention unravels aspects of reality; it focuses our awareness, the you about you, to novice regions of the mind; distinguishing you and your mind. It calms the turboil in the mind and is a healthy experience. It declutters our minds and changes our beliefs. Our beliefs turn to wet clay, easily moldable. With the requisite amount of deliberate practise, our beliefs change its state to water. Then, we finally are the best we will ever be."©

That makes this Monunmental achievement and Ted Talk that much more significant. Posted only 11 days before passing. With great respect and appreciation for having known this man. May he rest peacefully and guide us on.....

Some good wisdom here. I know the dogs on my grooming table (surprise! it's haircut day for Pup!) only relax and quit defending themselves when they see you are paying attention to what they're saying (or trying their best to say, you know?) You give them info to work with and positive feedback, plus a cpl clear boundaries. Then trust builds and they relax enough to play and to think brushing isn't half bad!

Ignore this comment as this is a personal msg for someone Yeah when i was still a little younger, attention matters to me. I kinda liked it but only a little bit. I enjoyed the attention from guys because thats what teenage girls secretly like but i dont like being the center of attention. Im someone who loves selfies and things like that as well. I see girls taking selfies as their form of self expression and art. But as i matured, those kind of things gradually diminish in me. There's still a little but not that much anymore. My priorities changed. If i want to achieve something, its not really for the attention. But i can never deny that i like fancy material things because all of us do. Its just that rich ppl have already stopped appreciating fancy things cuz they can easily get them. But its not the fancy things that im really after. Idc about the money lol But my dreams sound unrealistic lol, and i dont want to appear like i want to sound charitable or things like that I understand and appreciate that you want to be needed by me. Honestly thats sweet. Its just that as much as possible, i want to prevent anything that will happen that might harm others. I know you didnt mean that. I understand that u want to make sure that i will be in your house, its just that, for me, that would be somewhat scary because idk u that much, idk how u will treat me.. Its not that i dont like u, its just that its just really scary to suddenly live with someone that u dont know that much about

Ads are not bad. I believe if privacy concerns are addressed, ads are the best way to provide and consume services. Think about it. Do you hate ads or do you hate the ads that don't care about your privacy? Most of us convert our privacy concerns into a hatred for ads. But really, if it was *you* who chose the ads, will you be concerned of privacy? If you had total control of the ads you will see, will you oppose ads? If you ask me, that's great. You support creators as well as can enjoy their services for free. And if that's the case, what better economy can we have? You also don't need an algorithm that will 'track' user activities and figure out their interests. Recommendation systems can still be used, but not for advertising as the topics are solely based on user choice. Recently, Google has come up with features that allow you to select the topics you are okay with seeing the ads about, just like you select your topics of interest in reddit. I don't trust personalization because to me it's like their detective algorithm is following me and noting down every single reaction I have and predicting my next move. I disapprove that. But instead, if I tell them what ads I am okay watching and they only show me those category ads, it is great for me. I recommend everyone to check out your Google settings and choose what ads you would approve. Sensitive ads are disabled by default. It's only getting better and I believe Google has taken great steps to address privacy concerns. Why can't we have an attention economy where the engagement is not forced or addictive, but based on *positive* influence of content?

The Meryl Faye story: The child is demanding the parent follow her wishes. The parent should be in charge of the situation not the child. In the same situation, I would have just scooped the child up, put her in the car and used the time we have on the journey to discuss with her cause and affect. To discuss that when we are pushed for time, we cannot waste time and now we have time we can discuss things that happened. I would discuss the reasoning for my actions to bring about her understanding of situations and time constraints. Understanding is the key to Life.
