Seeing that Old asphalt being torn apart brakes my heart so much history.

The original configuration was unique....and damn near perfect. I watched quite a few races from the turn 4 infield, (now turn 2), and it was a spectators track. Short straights, long turns...nothing else like it.

@@1406Alexx The race sucked! New asphalt for cars that are prone to spinning out. Just what they need. More accidents than ever and we end up with long lines of cars that can't pass. They need to find out why this car spins out so easily. I think they also need to get away from the low profile tire. I believe the sidewall is not strong enough to keep the bead in the rim. It slips out and causes the flat tires.
Feel like it's gonna be called Atlanta superspeadway after the 3 races in a couple if weeks
I was fortunate to win the Richard Petty experience back in 2005. Let me tell you, going 130-160 mph in a IROC on that 23° track is MIND-BLOWING!! I want to do it again on this new 28° track! Best experience of my life.

Big or small engineering is amazing
Love this track!
After decades of dealing with weeper cancelations, it sure is nice to see owners have final learned that a dedicated drainage system is well worth it's relatively meager cost. The new track config seems awesome, but it also seems like [cup] lap times will actually slowdown & racing will be tamed bc of the 'speedway packages' on the cars. Regardless, on behalf of race car driver's backs [& to the chagrin of chiropractors] everywhere, thank you for the new & long overdue ribbon of asphalt.

I was at the first Xfinity race on the new AMS 😁 lucky crew that got to work on it and it looks great in person and the weather was perfect on Saturday 👍👍
This could set the standard for the way that asphalt is made for some tracks. Simply ingenious how it absorbes water like a sponge then drains it away. Of course it might be a different scenario for up north over time with bad winter months... something Atlanta doesn't get in the winter. Freezing rain could play havoc on it in northern states.
Love the new track
That asphalt drainage system is sick, can’t wait to go there this weekend

I felt the opposite! He said something about everyone enjoying the results of the work by watching the races, but I hate watching races. I'm only here for the construction and engineering. When I have gone to races, the pits are the bets part because I got to see what went into running the cars or boats. I was hoping to hear more about how each machine works and what they actually do to compact or roll the surface, how the crane was setup (the video didn't show much of that until later, so I was pausing to figure out how it was configured). They hardly scratched the surface. Is the top layer of asphalt also open to allow water to pass through or is it closed so rain runs off and only ground water comes up and drains? How thick was the road base and how did they compact it? Do the support arms between the machines have a hinge point to adjust for angle? As a construction pro and engineering person (no schooling or degree, but someone who builds solutions to problems) I was hoping for more. It was cool to see an overview of a track being rebuilt. I watch Cleetus McFarland and loved their videos on repairing a small track.

Sheesh feels like I was just there yesterday 😶
I have been watching NASCAR since they had very few races on tv. In my opinion, the track should be the same width all the way around. I watched the race and saw cars bounce on the back stretch. I thought the track would have been much smoother.
Dang that’s some banking for that track
Nice can’t wait to see that water freeze and crack all that work already been comped in Italy
riding on a new surface has to be nice
Appears to be very driver friendly being so wide.
We should've done this to Texas
This might sound stupid and I understand the new asphalt is expected to last a long time. Is there the possibility in the turns with all the force from the pack pressing down on the asphalt that the racing surface could be pressed down and blocking the rain water from getting to the draining system over time?

Eventually that track asphalt will be plugged full of rubber from the worn tires. Then will hold water. Come winter will freeze and start to crumble the track apart. Congratulations 🥳
I hope one of the drivers gave harper a ride around the track once it was done.

Sadly. It was abysmal, atrocious, and terrible.
Willing to give it a chance Funny how some so called fans are quick to judge something before seeing it in action If all the hard work pays off I guess plenty of sour face losers will eat their words 👍
I wish Texas would do this but make the track 1.60 miles with a baking of 30 degree on the turns
I know Cleetus is watching this video 🤘
Not a fan of Nascar but I am a fan of using the i-racing and stuff like it for real world applications such as this.
“Welcome to Atlanta superspeedway”
I'm sad that this happened for a few reasons.. Nearly every driver that retires says they won't miss superspeedways. Current drivers hated the 550hp package. Fans and drivers constantly ask for more short tracks. So this decision just entirely confuses me. Even more so now that the next gen car appears to be great on cookie cutters. Hoping for the best, but this is not the ideal track design.

Fans love superspeedways to and they love 1.5 mile tracks now due to the great races at those tracks this season, people have been asking for Kentucky back and so many 1.5 mile tracks lol. The reason fans wanted more short track was because of How trash the 550 Hp package was
@JBAlternate
2 жыл бұрын
@@ninjawarrriorr3062 The fans' push for more short tracks started when nascar still ran the gen 4 car. It had nothing to do with the 550 package.
This is what NASCAR needs to do at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. They need to bank the corners like Daytona and Talladega. We need our infield for camping and a long weekend of racing. Please NASCAR, do not take that away from us. Thank you

💯 that’s what I came here for too. They hardly covered anything really and we all know the host or whatever of this video is just a talking head who doesn’t know anything about all that 🥱
If by “less down time” you mean record number of cautions, then yes. Good work, asses.
Should have a dirt race there.
I would think being that course the tires will rip up some asphalt or and least gravel within the asphalt. I see it not lasting.
I wish they would’ve gone back to the pre 1997 configuration. 😢
I love it cause the only one to ever win on this new surface is my favorite Driver#WilliamByron

That group should reach out to Cleetus McFarland and the Freedom Factory.
But as a dirt track it'd be amazing!
My neck is hurting thinking about that tractor driver
With the additional banking wrecks are going to ruin tons of cars as they slide down that banking after hitting the wall...like a high speed Rockingham.. should be interesting...

and that ridge from the asphalt lanes coming out of the bank, you can already see the ass ends of some of those testers getting loose and bouncing. Wait until they are drafting doing the same and no downforce to keep it planted. Gonna be sketchy ride through there.
I would have sold the old asphalt to fans or putting it in a gift shop there for fans
I would’ve loved to be apart of the milling and paving over there
Had to dial the paver in.
yep the original config was best im excited but well see
Still wish the first section of pit road could get repaved, even though it’s concrete and not asphalt. It’s just OCD triggering that’s all.
I hope the new Atlanta doesn't race like Daytona and Talladega. Any time that you need to push another car or be pushed by another car to win a race is NOT racing.
