Ty O2 for the tribute to our legend. I had been following music sheets for ARR tribute and it’s mind blowing.🙏1992 is so special for me as it’s not just my birth year but my God ARR sir’s official entry to world of music. I am blessed to be born in 92 for that only. It’s an amazing tribute to you God, btw. Stay blessed and keep smiling sir. #30yearsofARR #30moreyearsofARR 💯🥰💫

In the era where Hindi film music was perhaps being ruled by a copy paste culture and the likes of T series churning out jhankar Beats and non stop remixes, Rahman burst into the scene like a breath of fresh air.. He brought a new lexicon and a new grammer and a fantastic sensibility to the verse and sound combo... I credit him for freeing the Hindi film song from the clutches of the classic mukhda- Antara- mukhda construct and take it as close as possible to free verse... Listen to Phir se udd chala from Rockstar... The Hindi film composers didn't know what they had been hit by!!! This was the genius of the man.

Dear O2 India, this is brilliant work that you’ve taken up. That’s why we love you. Just a little feedback: I think 10 min is too less to be called an “EPISODE”. 30 mins is at least needed. Given that you are playing music bites even in the 10 mins leaves hardly 4-5 mins of discussion. Moreover, the questions asked I feel are general and not directly related to one particular song or movie. Given that each episode is zooming in to one movie. Questions can be asked regarding that particular song or singer or bgm or lyrics or music sittings, discussions etc too.

Have to disagree, love the fact that they showcase these talents and the breadth of inspiration originating from one man. I think it’s a great approach. I still remember going to watch Bombay in Tamil with my family as an 8 year old. It was my mother who introduced me to Mani Ratnam's films calling him a big director. Even before that, we watched Anjali along with our neighbours. We used to go to the movies in groups. My mother also knew Mani Ratnam as the Director of Nayagan. Watching Bombay at Devi Theater I guess was an experience in itself. We were so much in love with the songs that we went over to watch the film, also for the news it made through controversies (which I correlate in hindsight).

@O2India. Firstly , we thank you for compiling such memories of ARR. These are treasures and so nostalgic to listen to the views of his peers. However, as many people pointed out, ARR started off (and still is actively involved) his cinema career in Tamil film industry. You have cherry picked some of the Pan India movies or to say so, Hindi movies alone. This is saddening as this doesn't represent his journey in full. Even the songs you play are all Hindi versions. I know you want to connect to a wider audience but what is wrong in adding few regional songs? Luckily dil se had a malayalam humming ( in Jiya Jale) and fortunately you added them. I am not trying to spread hatred or find fault - but many of ARR's gems are missed. Thiruda Thiruda was so different and one of his best. He proved he can do folk music as well in Karuthamma and kizhakku cheemaiyile. K balachander's movie Duet had a wonderful album and saw excellent use of Saxaphone which you rarely see in Indian film music. What about Kannathil muthamitaal movie by the same Mani Ratnam? Why isn't that featured, just because it didn't have a Pan India reach or didn't do well in Hindi? It is really bothering to see the likes of lagaan, RGV, Gulzaar saab etc only being show cased here leaving aside regional movies that catapulted ARR to the wider stage. Channel name is O2India, appreciate if it is more inclusive and embraces India as it is.

Dear sir Thanks a lot for watching and sharing your thoughts. We really appreciate what you pointed out. Allow us to mention that it's an ongoing series. Hope you have seen 4 epiosdes we did with Chithra Mam. In those she talks about many Tamil songs. These days we are featuring... Mr. Rajiv Menon. He not only talks about many advertsing films (Tamil too) they did together but also about Kadal (Besides Bombay & Guru) that he shot and also three Tamil Films that he directed. In coming weeks we will be featuring Mr. Prabhu Deva and Ms. Shweta Mohan. Our attempt has been to cover Mr. Rahman's entire body of work. Yet we will look into the points you have raised. If we have erred somewhere... we will certainly correct it. Thanks alot. We are honoured to have viewers like you. Regards...

In Hindi cinema, if after Raj Kapoor any director had a true musical sense, it was Subhash Ghai in Taal. Rahman matched Subhash in the picturization of songs. The film became a lyrical beauty. Dr Surender Bhutani in Warsaw (Poland)

So called “bollywood” : you’ll need to raise up to the Tamil film industry standards. Chuck out Salman, Karan johar, nepotism, goondagiri, racism, gang-up, bad music, objectifying women, etc.
