How The Largest Surviving WW2 Military Base Was Shut Down | Camp Bastion | Spark

Ғылым және технология

Camp Bastion, a fortress, built to fight the Taliban. For eight years the powerhouse for UK and US military operations in Afghanistan. Now, Britain’s biggest military base since WWII is closing. A town the size of Reading with a massive infrastructure - airport, hospital, fast food restaurants - is dismantled bolt by bolt and sent back to the UK. What is left is handed over to the Afghans. But with defences and manpower depleting daily, in the face of a constant threat from the Taliban, it is a dangerous race against time to close this city in the sand.

The reason why the Afghan commander looked disappointed when he said there were no integrated CCTV systems on the perimeter lookout towers, was because he can't even guarantee the loyalty of his own soldiers. If somebody were to let the Taliban through, they would have no early warning system. In essence, the watchtower perimeter provided him no security.

It's not entirely wrong . The Military generally fires off or disposes of small arms ammo around 7 year intervals . Ammo deteriorates in a few ways one of which is called stress corrosion of the brass . In a large batch it's impossible to tell which cases have suffered and become weaker and prone to the case cracking upon firing . So they put a time limit on it and dispose after that time . That is not to say that a lot of the ammo is still fine and safe to use for a lot longer . In a full on war like WW2 they use the ammo as quick as they can make it .

Americans left Afghanistan because they were tired of its expenses and Afghanistan does not have anything worth the cost. The US made a huge mistake to invade Afghanistan, BUT the TALIBAN DID NOT WIN. Taliban is the biggest enemy of the Afghans; it is already very obvious. If USA OR ENGLAND cared they would be shooting a massive bomb just to fully end the talibans and mulitple millions if not millions then thousands of lives. Yet how smart do you think Killing millions/thousands of lives is when you could just take out the talibans. and The money IS NOTHING compared to what usa makes or anything like if amazon creator wanted to he could build 4 of these bases. yet there alot of people like bill gates as microsoft owner that has given more money away then any other foundation that i know of as a single person which goes above 60 BILLION. so EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU SMARTASSES OUT THERE PLEASE JUST DON'T COMMENT OR SAY CRAP THAT IS FAKE UNLESS YOU EITHER KNOW ABOUT IT (AS RESERCHED) ALOT OR HAVE BEEN THERE.
