I work in applied behavior analysis, and i once had an in-home client with autism that would literally call his mother a milf right in front of her. Even that was probably one of the more tame things he said, the amount of things he said that were totally out of line, just out of pocket were crazy lol. Ie. telling your mother you wished she was dead, I'm not kidding. And these are very smart kids mind you. It’s the worst when you see a young nonverbal boy that remains fixated to a tablet for 80% of their waking hours. It’s sad

We actually had one time where his brother, him and I were going to go on a bike ride, and because they’re both on the spectrum, they act similarly. So we spend like 30 minutes getting the bikes ready and everything, and then he gets on the bike, says it hurts his balls, threw the bike on the ground, kicked it, said he wasn’t going anymore, and went inside. After I spent so much time adjusting his chair and everything so he’d be comfortable. I’ll be honest that day I was about to just call it quits. It's a rarity to meet someone who comes up with jokes instead of repeating the same bullshit 200 times

Im a Zoomer, I grew up in the countryside and didn't have access to wifi until I was 18 and moved to town and I'm now in my early 20s. The only social media I've ever had is Gmail, KZread and WhatsApp. The reality is that it doesn't matter if you stay away from these things because everyone else won't. I'm the weird one to most people because most people my age are "autistic" internet addicts. This world is never going to go in reverse, this is now the new normal and every generation that follows will be like this. I fear that within my lifetime there'll be a day when having an Instagram or Facebook will be necessary to have jobs or access other things and since I've never had either I won't be able to take part, much like how someone can't travel without a passport and so on and having to start one at this age will mean I'll literally be behind ten year olds who've been on social media for more years than me because it's just normal to them

I dont think you need to worry if youll be "behind" on social media crap when it comes to things like jobs and actual useful shit in professional settings, if you think aboit it most bosses are from the boomer generation and its not holdin em back today, and youll just learn what you need to just like any other skill you have to for jobs, the useless consumerist media shit is *actually* TRULY useless, unless youre gonna work in smth in or adjacent to the entertainment industry where itd be super relevant info, ig marketing too but those people are always oit of touch with it anyway bevause they dont sit around consuming shit tons of useless media either. So i think youre in a good path, consider yourself lucky, youre already 1-0 ahead of everyone whos brainfried and brainrotted by new media just purely from the neuropsychological effects of it.

Gonna chime in as a 23yo who found out this year that I’m autistic (knew about adhd already). You’re right on the mark that autism is essentially just a different type of person than non-autistic (allistic) people. There’s visible differences between the brainscans of autistic and allistic people, notably that the autistic brain features irregular hyper and hypo connectivity. This can manifest into all sorts of people, including people who are disabled on both the medical and social models that need lots of support to live, and it can manifest into the type of person who affects humanity on the scale of Einstein, or Mozart, or Elon Musk, or whoever. However we’re not all a little autistic, as shown by the comparison of autistic and allistic brain scans. It’s a spectrum because autism can manifest in many ways, including seemingly opposite ways. For example, some autistic people have little empathy, some have way more empathy than is regular. Same is true with iq, that the standard deviation of iqs of autistic people is greater than that of allistic. It’s a spectrum like a color wheel, not a gradient that goes from 0 autistic to 100 autistic, and there’s no X% autistic. You are right though that the Internet and the modern age can make certain negative traits manifest way worse tho. I learned I was autistic after moving to a new city, where I lived alone, worked semi-remotely, and spent lots of time coping as you’d say. In this environment, which would be shitty for most people anyway, I entered a neurological state called autistic burnout, where I became a shell of my normal self in terms of functionality. I was a perfect ACT kid played sports year round, had good social life, in hs and college. No one thought of me as disabled. But the environment I entered after college was a gateway to catastrophe for my mental health. That being said, I was just as autistic before - I just didn’t know it. It wasn’t causing as much trouble in my life, so I didn’t find out. However, even when I was fine, autism was effecting my in many ways good and bad that I didn’t know about, and knowledge about it would’ve greatly helped my know how to live my life. People saw the good, but no one saw the bad, and those struggles went unseen. Even very ‘successful’, sociable, seemingly ‘normal’ autistic people are at the end of the day autistic, and there are still unique challenges associated with that. Tho I believe my gifts outweigh my weaknesses.

But I'm still normal enough for to think "what if I'm just weird?" About a year I heard MemeAnalysis come up with an idea of Media Indused Autism. And I think he might be spitting facts a bit. It might be because I spent my childhood playing video games and browsing the internet 24/7 instead of going outside playing and socialising with other kids. Idk maybe I'm just brain damaged when I fell out a car when I was 5. Keep preaching gerbil

I think this has kinda happened to me. I used to be quite a different person when I was younger, far more sociable and talkative than I am now, and I think a big part of that is simply that I didn't have the internet back then. As an example, whenever I wanted to hang out with my friends I'd actually go out and play with them IRL, but in my teenage years I'd basically just stay inside and play with my friends online, and I guess I just forgot how to communicate with people in the real world.

You say that the internet increases autistic tendencies in people who already have it, but I give you this: A large amount of "autistic traits" are not always indicative of autism and can be adopted by any person, especially based on circumstances (like the internet). Some doctors are really quick to throw around the autism diagnosis. They might see a person who can actually be cured of their social issues and weird anxieties and just diagnose them with autism, making the person think they can't be fixed which causes them to just embrace these issues and in turn make them worse. So basically the internet (and other things) is fully capable of making a "neurotypical" person become autist-like.

As someone who was diagnosed with fairly severe inattentive type ADHD at a young age, I believe ADHD is one of the most misunderstood and misdiagnosed conditions out there. A lot of the people diagnosed these days, similar to anxiety and depression, are experiencing the consequences of poor health and a poor environment, and treating it with drugs that will help even people without the condition “focus.” For me ADHD is less about “attention” and ability to sustain focus, and much more about executive function, time blindness, an inability to organize and retain information in memory, and a difficult time maintaining a coherent train of thought in situations where it’s necessary. Medication helps with this but imo many of the drugs on the market for ADHD don’t treat the more severe issues that come with it, which a lot of the time feel closer to how people describe brain damage than a simple issue with attention regulation or impulsivity. Basically, I think there’s a lot more going on that science doesn’t really understand, or doesn’t want to understand yet because of the implications. Check out the correlation between traumatic brain injury and ADHD diagnosis sometime. There’s also the theory that at some point, the dominance of agriculture as opposed to hunting and gathering ended up favoring certain brain types over others, and a lot of the characteristics that would be beneficial pre-agriculture are now treated as “conditions.” I don’t really know what to believe myself, but it’s interesting to think about regardless.

I have a hypothesis, from my lived experiences and people I’ve met, that ADHD people are actually more talkative, more socially active, and can make new friends with relative ease. I feel like the people with ADHD that I witnessed in school most often appeared to have very low social inhibitions and would more often than others speak their thoughts which can be very helpful in consistently making new human connections. This also could be a case where these kids that I noticed were the ones that had the least shame about their ADHD because they were just socially skilled and fairly popular people. I do not have ADHD and I feel like I’m pretty mid at making new friends. Most of my friends are very close and I’ve known them since childhood. College and being on a sports team definitely helped me make close friends there though because otherwise I likely would not have cared to make new friendships.

I think it’s important to be present when you’re talking to someone and just saying whatever thought you have doesn’t always help if it has nothing to do with the conversation. I’m definitely more on the inattentive side, so I’ve never been the high energy hyperactive type so maybe those types are better at social interaction

It's important to understand that the groundwork for ADHD is laid in very early childhood and even infancy. It begins when you don't have a substantial connection with your primary caregiver, usually mother. Mothers love to pawn their children off to day care and/or a plethora of random babysitters and whatnot and are never there for their children. The children then develop problems with connection and trust; they can't rely on their primary caregiver to be there for them when they're under stress. From a very young age, you're shown that you can't depend on other people to be constants in your life and instead have to rely solely on yourself for comfort. ADHD is ultimately a stress response; you move, speak, and think very quickly when you're upset by something in order to get away from it, even if it's only subconsciously. You can't depend on others so you have to take on all stress by yourself, which means you have to juggle all sorts of things all the time. It's no wonder why effectively being abandoned by your parents at a very young age is at least highly correlated with ADHD. Even fully formed adults have a very hard time dealing with the stress of life completely by themselves.

The thing about autism being linked to a weak connection with a primary caregiver makes a lot of sense considering that 1.) men are much more likely to have autism and 2.) infant boys are much less likely to experience emotional mirroring (think matching a baby's emotions when they make silly faces) from their primary caregivers than infant girls. I really recommend the book "Real Boys" by William Pollack on this subject if you have an interest in child psychology, societal expectations for men, or male emotional patterns.

Could have been a coincidence that there was a rise in ADHD and autism study when the internet increased in popularity as it would be easier to exhange research. First autism diagnosis was only in 1940s while ADHD was in 1902. I don't think its fair to say he internet CAUSED more autism but it could have lead to more research on it and possibly heightened symptoms

14:35 is NOT a stretch at all, the repetition of internet language is sicken at times especially with short form and tiktok comments, it’s like the ppl who comment under videos don’t have half a brain or just say something like “w vid” or something else similar it’s annoying, it’s like ppl don’t know how to actually appreciate and express what they are watching so they just comment something like “w vid” or “gyat” idk it’s just dumb to me
