History Valley SBL Interviews Season 1 | Episode 8.
Shirley Paulson is the PhD, founder and principle producer of the website, Early Christian Texts, is especially interested in exploring the ideas of the ancient world because of its vast range of ways of responding to situations and life-and-death questions. Paulson specializes in both canonical and extracanonical writings, with a particular interesting understanding the motives of their authors, especially the varied views of Jesus and his commitment to healing and helping people in the rebellion against Roman oppression. Her book,
Illuminating the Secret Revelation of John: Catching the Light
(Cascade Books, 2022), is the culmination of her studies. It was written primarily for a public audience curious about the teachings of Jesus that helped people endure Roman violence with inspiration and spiritual vigor. It also helps New Testament scholars less familiar with the Nag Hammadi works who want a clear guide for this complex extra canonical text.
Paulson is the principal producer of the Early Christian Texts website, early christiantexts.com, which features the “Bible and Beyond” series of blog posts, articles, online courses, events, discussions, and a monthly podcast. As the first Head of Ecumenical Affairs for Christian Science Church (2008-2018), she gained first-hand experience with Christian controversies over healing and orthodox theologies. Her focus on extracanonical texts strengthens her appreciation for their importance then and now for Biblical and Christian studies.

The mainstream position of _actual historians_ is that there were no Gnostic or Docetic sects; instead those are figments of "biblical scholarship" gradually accreted from successive generations' conjectures until they became cant. That is not to say actual sects didn't maintain this or that gnostic-esque or even docetic-esque notion, even as they reviled other sects for maintaining slightly different ones.

@@andrewclemons8619 Or an alien abductee support group? Either way, you would need some evidence, but what we have, instead, is fevered imaginings. That's fine for theology, but history nowadays has higher standards.
