I'm actually seriously wondering... honest! Do you make just one kind or many different types? Do designers like Gucci or Halston or Fendi even design buttons? Someone or some corp. surely must design all the buttons in the world... I assume they are mass produced? I've honestly never thought this deeply about such a ubiquitous item. (Zero sarcasm!!)

@@mikecrawford2063 We do make different types of buttons, but they're just plastic ones, different sizes. And Idk if we make all the buttons in the U.S but the company is called U.S Button. Also how it's done is we have this material (not sure what it is) but we call them pills because they look like pills without any inscription on them. Then we have this metal loading tray with holes the same size as the pills. Then we pile the pills on the tray and shake it until the pills fill the holes. Next we have a press, where we put the tray in it and then release the pills and make sure they're on cavity because if they're not then Buttons and mold get stuck in it and it sucks scraping it out. But we close the press and do the same thing over again with the trays and so on. The press has a time limit so we have to be fast and efficient cause were supposed to do a certain amount in a certain amount of time. But then when the press starts coming down we catch them with another tray and out it in a barrel. And that's how buttons are made.

@@Haywood_Jablowme Was being serious, sorry that wasn't clear! But thanks for your detailed explanation :)
wow. I really love these ted series. They're all super fun and informative. I love how the speaker talks about buttons with such enthusiasm :) I feel like I know so much about buttons now haha 😂 Great job!
There is a small buttons museum in Panama. They have an interesting collection going back a couple of hundreds of years
How did I miss this series when it first came out? This just fell into my youtube recommendations today.
One of the best short takes on an invention
I got spammed by Ted and I am loving it😁
His passion for buttons made me like this vid :3
Quick short but very informative video about the button. Something I'm sure 90% of the viewers never thought about (I know I didn't).
This is so wholesome. I love it.
I can't say I understand fashion but he clearly cares a lot about it and that's cool.
Was not expecting to see Isaac Mizrahi. Pleasant surprise.
I always think about buttons, and zippers! These are such neat TED videos!
I bet his favorite movie is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Being fashionable is not necessarily better. Buttons are horrid creepy little things. I hate them.
🧐 fascinating.
I like the buttons of your shirt...They are big and shiny.
As much as I love a button, out of practicality I have moved on to zippers. It's faster, they are kind of durable now, and they really zip out the winter chil
On the button
Does the first button were developed with wooden pieces
This is damn interesting
Cool :)
Buttons, I love them Can you click the button? (The like one ;)
Thanx for omar essam
Whats the point in one of the last button slots being vertical? So I break it off? Oops vertical I mean
What about snape's
I still feel buttons aren't the best possible closure device. A good zipper is hard to beat.
👍👍👍
Who else got here so early the video was still private? 🤔
I'm still annoyed by buttons on jean flies and shirts. Takes forever to open and close...

trouser buttons are the WORST - in a zipper era they still use some times buttons as a fashion statement... So I have to pay MORE for shittier trousers...
if you stop watching at 0:21 and it's your first watch, it appears to be about the nuclear button.
Who thought of the other "button" before watching the content of this video?

Waterproof, machine washable small magnets where the buttons would be...
The invention of button is really a tremedous advancement in human civilization. The decoration of button can often improve fashion level for clothes. However, as a normal person, feeling comfortable is more important than it seems. It is not a good design to attch button on the back of clothes, people will feel unconfortable when leaning on backrest. Do you think so?
Buttons are such a pain to do up and undo.

fair enough. But for about 10 years, the shirts and pants produced in china no longer last 2 years! i have old t-shirts that are already 30 years old and still all the seams and buttons are intact. if you buy a piece of clothing today, whether pants, shirt or t-shirt, the fabric usually lasts only 1 year. the fabric is worn through and gets holes. the seams tear after only a few weeks. what a waste, what environmental pollution. thank you fashion industry! thank you china.
KILL THE MUSIC.

Buttons make clothing look ugly... nauseatingly so. Buttoned shirts are the worst. I don't get what people like about them. Ugly little lumps of plastic or whatever poking through... it's like having warts Yeah, some are "ornate" or "decorative", but who really wants a row of those clunky pointless things dangling on your clothing. Embarrassing. I hate buttons.
