I guess if you wanted an in lore explanation for the CDF defeat, you could say that while they could replace lost ships, the human casualty count was simply too high. Maybe all those players who quit irl because it wasn't fun could be explained in lore as either dying or deserting to escape the CDF meat grinder.

It didn't occur to me earlier, but that's basically what happened to the German navy in WW1. They had the ships, but the casualty rate was so high and it was obvious they were losing, so most of the navy mutinied and refused to go out to fight.

@@charlesc.9012 Jutland was a tactical victory for germany but a strategic for The Brits, the royal navy could replace losses, while the blockaded resource starved and already smaller german fleet could not. However the losses inflicted upon the Royal navy DID shook british morale of course the germans didn't knew they could break them if they pushed further, from their perspective they were damaging their fleet too much to chase endless numbers of british ships.

@@sosig6445 After the battle, Seydlitz and Hipper opimed on how miraculous it was that they survived, because British lyddite shells often malfunctioned and their battlecruisers had poor ammunition handling practices. The introduction of the Green Boy shell and reintroduction of safety protocols made 12” and 15” guns far deadlier overnight, and the time window drew to a close before the High seas fleet could even finish their repairs and retry. SMS Seydlitz survived because of these flaws, and there would not be the same lucky escape again German battlecruisers also had forwards firing torpedo tunes, which meant a hit there flooded the large space needed to store and handle torps. This meant flooding was uncontrollable, and led to the loss of Lützow, I believe.

They only decided to take a stand against the Clans once it was determined what their true ambitions were (THEY can't recreate a new Star League with themselves at the head of it... that's what WE were going to do). In short, May 20th, remember Tukayyid, thank you Comstar for cleaning up your own mess.

KE ships were really maneuverable for their tonnage and while lacking in armor were able to dodge a lot of hits that COA vessels had to just tank

The human cost of a war shouldnt be understated. Material can be replaced but people that die stay down. People staying down in this comparison would be people stopping because they werent having fun. Ut sounds like they failed to communicate properly so simply couldnt put up a coordinated fight. It worked for them in the 1st season because they dident have to communicate with people outside of their group. But when they did have to do that it dident work out. Ontop of that they had the bad luck of having their first joint battle be a catastrophe. The alliance was over before it started :/

An unhappy military alliance does more harm than good. Theoretically, even if both sides hate each other, 2+2 is still 4. But practically speaking, that is not how it turns out. In this kind of situation, 2+2 equals 3 if you are lucky, or as low as 1.5 if you are not. It does weird things to people's heads and expectations, in situations where people should perform and push until they die if needed, they get soft and pull back. 'We are in an alliance after all, its not like we are fighting alone', but there is nothing real to back up that preconceived notion and only regret in the aftermath. Its fascinating to see when this happens, but its a good lesson. If you are going to have allies, dedicate yourself to working together. Fleet lost day one? Damn bro that sucks, we can send some people over to help rebuild(assuming such was allowed). Frontline bogged down? Time to develop a plan to hit something in the enemies backfield. From my complete outsiders perspective, this sounds like the CDF and Riders never got over their misgivings about the other. In this kind of situation, becoming friends could be acceptable. Trade agreements, docksharing, ect. But no further than that. To quote a certain man from Battletech... "Wars are not won on the field of combat. Battles are, but those are only ever part of the story. To win a war you need to break the enemy's resolve, to force him to accept defeat. Otherwise the war will never end. Too many conflicts persist because battles are won but the hearts and minds of the people are not. Winning involves every level of society, from the generals and politicians to the shop girls and street cleaners. The infantryman with his rifle may be the blunt weapon used to win this fight, but he is neither the instigator nor the concluder." In reality, the war never ended between the Riders and the CDF. Both sides still felt misgivings. The CDF, that they could have done better and could still go further. The Riders, that they had the momentum and needed to just take a few more steps. This is made with only this video as my knowledge base for this whole thing, though. I could be wrong or missing critical information, but this whole thing was fun to write so, hey, why not?

  • @GetBrocked

"in situations where people should perform and push until they die if needed, they get soft and pull back." This happens in reality too, because people don't want to die, regardless of alliances, and a destroyed ship has no value compared to a damaged one that pulls back and can enter the fight again later.

What would be even better would be an analysis of why they fell…you mention moral loss, but is that really it? As a fellow outsider on Mars in a Galactic warfare server, me and some buddies decided to make a scrap faction with one main scrap HQ and some main scrap motherships, this would help us survival and evolve faster than the most experienced players in the server, Our faction was just getting ready and still making the main headquarters up for business, luckily there was a war going on nearby at a factions base, before the apposing faction came back for their 5th raid, they asked us to take and scrap up their ships, in return we got Uranium and ice. With these new materials to our disposal we got requests back to back to scrap unwanted and un-usable ships, thanks to this we built up our fleet with the scrap and junk from the servers biggest and most hated faction, because for their tech in our ships every faction allied with us joined us and started producing our ships and sending them out. At first we raided their asteroid base and got their attention, with the small fleet already there we had them concentrating on our droned ships, Later that same hour our entire faction alliance got their and took them down and were still active enough to be able to fully raid and get them off the face of the server just because they couldn't compete with out technology and numbers.

Based on what you have described, the reason why the CDF was destroyed all goes back to a lack of coordination with the Riders. More communication between the two factions and better coordination would have helped out with the ensuing attack by the KE. However, because they didn’t communicate much, the end result was one major defeat, which resulted in a general collapse of the CDF morale, bringing about more defeats until it was an absolute defeat. In this situation, there’s very little that could be done outside of changing leadership and joining the Riders.

  • @admiralmallard7500

Everyone below the old CDF players did not have enough experience to take over and would be short of pilots to man the ships and the old staff were unable to keep fighting due to well real life becoming a factor again after the lock downs ended. Though in the end you're not entirely wrong. After the collapse of the CDF any willing personnel and active squadrons joined the Riders.

I think another factor was that the CDF was anticipating a second war with the Riders after dealing with the KE. Remember that in the early phase of the KE invasion the CDF kept a few squadrons bordering Rider territory far from the front line. No doubt those squadrons could have played a decisive role had they been committed to the front, but by the time they were finally deployed it was too late to make a difference. The CDF got distracted preparing for the next war instead of focusing on winning the one they were currently engaged in and it cost them everything.

One of them should've used my juggernaut battleship design (which is on my workshop page) It has a 300G gravity cannon that can tear an unshielded ship in half with one shot Ridiculously powerful shields (darkstar bubble shield and kinetic barriers with cythons shields) It's porcupined with beam laser turrets (I think 40 in total) 2 spinal mount big Bertha cannons Projector based auto repair system (requires Kodiak strut welder mod) nuclear bomb launcher (welds a thermonuclear warhead with a battery and mass block to be fired from the gravity cannon) all wrapped in neutronium armor plating that is 7 blocks thick at its weakest point (can be subbed with heavy armor if you don't have modded armor blocks) This thing is so big that it requires 5 projectors to build in one piece (or build the 5 sections and merge block them together) On the server I used to play on, this thing survived an onslaught from the entire server, including 2 OP admin ships that were intended to make players rage quit In that epic battle, it sustained massive damage, it had an entire engine nacelle missing (half the reactor power and propulsion gone) and had its entire engineering section destroyed (crippling the auto repair system) but it still survived against a server of 20 players It was even more powerful with the modular laser system (where you can pipe lasers together to make a death star) that thing could burn a hole through itself in about 5 seconds with the original design

What if we sort of merged our two universes between all our servers? Where players could jump their ships from your planets to ours. Like visiting a distant galaxy or reaching the other side of tgis galaxy. Its already possible to jump ships between with select mods. Overall it gives us all something greater and more unique in the space engineers community as a whole. I think it could be a great adventure that gives more players more things to explore and a wider range of dynamics.

@@GetBrocked it would take lots of preplanning and we would all have to have the same synced mods between all the servers. My biggest concern is various player ruleset formats between each solar system in the wide universe. I'm sure a pop up after jumping would solve it. Otherwise rule breakers get slapped with a thicc bounty encouraging rp. Several ways we can organically solve issues. Its definitely of a large undertaking as is anything new and untried. Ive been around since 2013 off and on and I want see se to be something grander. Maybe a like mini space mmo as no other game gets it right like se. My end goal or dream is to have dozens of server/solar systems/communites to form a se version of single shard making a pseudo full galaxy. Complete with a lore map graph like in star wars between trade routes and territory sectors. Although I admit the practically aspect of linking so many communites is unknown or if even truly possible. @@GetBrocked ah yes, the melding process is something that requires a more deeper discussion than one I can provide here. I do see the concern. Though I don't see issues if we both remain flexible to achieve the larger overall goal. That is building a long string of planets/solar systems any player can visit within one universe that has multiple listed servers as entryway into it. Each with their own community, story, and background unique to them and their own players. For us our community, Universe42, is in the fledgling phase. There is nothing publically posted for now. We have the network and hardware side complete for two servers. One in the US and the other in EU. We are now finishing the user interaction side of things such as discord and services for players. Our custom se planet is ready it has been in developement for sometime. Ideally we should be running in the next month or so. We still need to build our community's invading alien protagonist crafts, as just one example of work remaining. Once we are fully operational we plan to host faction based war, pvp, and pve events. I originally intended to wait longer before contacting other communites about this idea. But I really enjoyed your video and overall server gameplay. They build ships based on a set of rules in creative. They are only allowed to "make" a certain amount based on how many tiles they own. The don't make all this stuff in survival and battle it out like you'd expect. They design and build the ships according to rules, and move them around in turns on a grand map, and then when two enemy fleets meet they paste each armada in. Ships are "destroyed" according to the rules of the grand strategy map. This is more like a DnD series than traditional space engineers gameplay. They are just trying to distill the best bits of Space Engineers and sideline all the more boring stuff.

@@admiralmallard7500 Not quite, but still, not bad. The one I was looking for had the ship split while it was doing some kinda barrel roll. Hope that helps.

Well I know a guy who likes to do this to PvP servers. Grab a bunch of guys, build or get some mid size ships, load them with explosives and when a battle comes. *TENNO HEIKA BANZAI!* They tend to annoy the living crap out of everybody though.
