How the Beirut explosion was a government failure

And why Lebanon is on the verge of collapse.
Subscribe to our channel! goo.gl/0bsAjO
On August 4, 2020, a massive explosion rocked Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon. The blast occurred when sparks in a warehouse hit a stockpile of ammonium nitrate - a highly explosive material - that was stored in the city's port. It was one of the largest accidental explosions in history and it couldn't have occurred at a worse time for Lebanon.
For the past several years, the country has been sliding into an economic depression and a political crisis. The root causes began during the country's 20-year civil war and extend to the organization of the government, in which control is divided among the country's many religious sects.
After years of corruption and negligence, Lebanon's people are now stuck picking up the pieces.

But if you keep it out of politics everyone will complain about not being represented, or being supersed by the majority. Plus in the US politicians talk about Christianity all the time so you don't get to tell people about that.

There are plenty of non-religious countries with similar flawed systems, poverty, corruption and poor leadership. The correct ideology and economic system isn't in place, and subversive elements still infiltrates Lebanon (openly, without backlash). This is what has to be rectified. Opportunity need to be created, starting up businesses should become attractive, criminals/terrorists should be removed and a zero tolerance policy towards corruptions, negligence, misconduct, etc, must prevail.

You guys made a brilliant short summary of Lebanon's failed system. Syria and Israel getting into Lebanon also shows how historically Lebanon was so poorly governed. Assad thought he could gain more control over what he sees as "greater Syria". Israel got in because Palestinians settled in the south and started using Lebanon as a launchpad of terror into Israel. This wouldn't happen in a well managed sovereign country. Sending love to the people of Lebanon! I hope this time you get rid of corruption for good. 🙏

It's amazing that you could fit something most Lebanese people fail to understand into a 10 minute video. Thank you, from me and from all my Lebanese brothers and sisters. We appreciate you talking about our country, I learned things I wouldn't have known otherwise. One of these things being the sheer extent of the banking scheme.

tobeylee18 yeah now go ahead and blame the Syrians for the crippling Lebanese economy and the inadequacy and corruption of its government, I’m not going to even mention the extreme sectarianism that exists in Lebanon. “Immense strain {...} on Lebanon”, what strain are you even talking about? Economical strain? Social strain? It’s like Lebanon is helping the refugees financially in any shape or form (And I’m not suggesting they’re obligated to but that’s just worth mentioning).
