Don't be too sure about it though. I was once caught doing 160 on an empty road. Only one car was driving behind me and judging by his yellow lights I assumed it was just a random old car... Once I entered the city limits I found out it was a (older model) marked police vehicle...

Here in the Philippines' National Capotal region the roads are flooded with Ford Explorers lol. Guess I know where we get these cars from. Much more expensive here too with all the taxes 55 to 60k USD depending on variant.

Here in Colorado you see lots of non-police explorers. I have one myself, though mine you'd be partially right in thinking i'm a cop, because mine used to be a police car. it was cheap, but it's annoying to drive. You can't speed at all because people in front of you will never drive faster than 5 under the speed limit.

@@Eagle10021 The chassis is no different than a regular explorer. Even the added structural reinforcement is bolted in, at least on my 2013. So you can argue semantics all you want, but it's still just a better spec explorer.

its because th Gm Plant in arlington makes jsut tahoes and police depts get bottom line pricing on souped ones, i remember some tahoes have 6.2's 420 horses cops ate them all up because that option cost 0 bucks if youre a purchaser for police depts.

@@gentlemanzackp6591 East answer, that’s because the Arlington Assembly Plant offers the police package from the factory, and has done that since the 80s when they made the caprice there. I believe there is some form of long term contract between the state and GM (there definitely was when my Dad worked there til 88) And that makes it just that much nicer, easier, and cheaper for TX law enforcement to get their cruisers from GM.

I'm surprised the dodge charger was not mentioned here. It is so used in my state, that any time I am behind someone in my charger at night, they assume I am a cop and slow down. I think the charger really started popping up in the police catalogue around 2013 when they made the body style more aggressive.

Most the ones that got the V6 compared its ability to the Crown vics it replaced. However I'd place money on every state patrol that has them uses the 5.7, I know all of Mo HP is the 5.7. Look at it this way the same motor that dodge puts into a 3/4 ton 4X4 truck is placed into a 4 door car. the old record he said that still stands I don't see how, as those chargers routinely go 156mph fully loaded with a fat guy driving . Agency's routinely sent them in shops to get governed because they were capable of speeds never before seen in Police departments.

all the cop cars in dubai are cars taken from tax evaders and other things. saddest part is most of those cars taken are left to fade away never to be used, or even recycled.

It's 2020, and I still occasionally see crown vics. It's rare to see them (in service), but they're still out there!

You have to keep in mind, Dubai is a different kind of city. Almost everyone there that has some kind of vehicle uses a supercar. So, in turn, the local law enforcement needs to also use a supercar.

My Dad and I are currently working on a 1969 Polara that was previously a CHP car. It has the 440 Magnum aka 440TNT if you are working on a Chrysler and not a Dodge or Plymouth. The gentleman he bought it from was originally from Cali and gave Dad the receipt where ye bought it from Orange County, CA. According to a Hemmings motor magazine article CA ordered 1,500 Polaras in 1969 and as of the time it was released, there were 11 left. Dad called and said, we have #12. The author doubted it and stated all options CA ordered that other states didn't such as the red and clear spotlights as shown in the video. Dad took photos of each feature as well as the receipt and the gentleman was able to confirm we are the 12th one left.

Did I miss the Impala? They were all over in Georgia for a while in the early 2000's with those highly reflective circle brake lights right after the mustangs with the pursuit package.

A police force in Belgium equipped their cops with Triumph TR4s in the early 1960s. They were factory upgraded from a generator to an alternator to power the added lighting. But they continued to use the 2 liter, 4 cylinder engine and 4 speed transmission. I don't know if the two seater sports cars were fitted with hard told or left as convertibles. They also might have been fitted with overdrives.

a cool thing i didnt hear you menthion is that many police departments have several high performance persuit vehicles beyond what the normal ones can do, for example. i know in louisville KY they have several unmarked 5.0 Mustangs and v8 chargers, people dont usually get away from them.

The issue with the chargers was that dodge stopped test driving A lot of their cars in hot weather conditions after they bought their stock back from Diamler Benz. On top of that their transmission turn to crap after 70k miles according to my fam that does fleet work for La Migra (border patrol). Now dodge fiat had to start doing hot weather testing near my hometown in South Texas.

Here in Mexico the Dodge Charger are the first car that ANY police department (even the federal police) see to use. And, just by one reason: as the Crown Vic was used because doesn't have any competitor, the Charger are used just because it does not have at least one rival. And the Ford Fusion are not that fast.

I was pulled over by a Ford Musrtang 5.0 RCMP cruiser between Edmonton and Calgary speeding down the highway in the mid 90's. That was an awesome police car to be sure.

The thing is even if you can find a 5.7 V8 charger police car, it isn't the fastest car on the road. In the 70s police cars were fastest on the road short of the rare LA millionaire with a Ferrari. Nowadays my mom's Acura MDX could match the charger in straights and beat it in corners lol

I remember back in the mid to late 90s the Florida Highway Patrol were using the Dodge Stealth

In the UK there are numerous BMW Diesel Estates, in full high viz colours. Plus a variety of very high speed saloons in shades of grey.

LMAO, in my city, the cops all drive old or new. If it's an old car it's a Crown Vic. If it's less than 2 years old, it's a Chevy Tahoe. For some reason, I have to drive outside the city limits to find police issued Chargers. Interestingly, if you're in northern Texas near the OK/TX border, the highway patrol drive unmarked pickup trucks! They keep the roof lights in a fold-down rack in the cab so the poor bastard never sees them until the last second!

Worse Cop Car Story EVER! I got roped into buying a White Chevy Impala. A major mistake. The strange thing is, everyone slows down when I'm driving around them. Everyone! It's the worst thing ever. What's even more egregious, is that I even find myself, slowing down when passing a reflective 18 wheel gas truck and I see my car's reflection. Then I'm like, wait, that's me. LOL.

romanieo I bought an ex cop impala back in 2015 and still have it. And yes, traffic does slow down and drive less aggressive for the most part because they think you're an undercover cop or something, but at the same time some will let you pass them, making it a super convenient car for traffic.

If you have a spot light still on it, look online for one of the plates that cover the hole, and remove the spotlight. I couldn't go anywhere in my Charger Pursuit without people driving ridiculously slow infront of me. Took the spotlight off, and now I don't get anywhere near the attention

Charger? Tahoe? Literally the entire fleet where I live in Louisiana is 2017 Tahoe’s that are fucking badass with a few Chargers mixed in.

I used to live in the UK and the city of Nottingham had such a bad street racing problem that the cops couldn't keep up. When I left in 2003, the police had bought a subi WRX STI in full police liveries.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that they didn't mention the chargers haha

In the 90’s the South Carolina highway patrol had a few LT1 Z28 Camaros . I was driving a 91 Celica Gt at the time , I knew not to run on my way from Florida to North Carolina .

Growing up in L.A. my favorite L.A.P.D. car was the Matador followed by Belvedere and Fury. For the CHP the Camaro's and Mustangs were definitely not to be dealt with although I never heard about the engine failure issues with the Camaro's. The overall favorite would have been the Polara because it was hitting about 150 in the 60's on the street. I think it's still the fastest except for maybe the new Charger. Most departments seem to limit them to 130 but, apparently ASP(Arkansas State Police) seem to hit 150 in their chase videos.

It’s usually a mix of both and a couple of Crown Vics that haven’t been decommissioned yet. My city has Interceptor Mustangs too

The car at 4:47 you call a Polara is a B Body65 Dodge Coronet .It is is chrome script on the front fender.But you get a pass from 62-65 dodge called their B bodies all sorts of names

Here in UK we have mostly Vauxhall/Opel Insigniain larger cities saw BMW X5 for cruisers and for undercover mostly heavily tinted bimmers and Volvos

Huntsville Al has a few newer V8 mustangs (undercover) for high speed interstate chases

Yvny You probably can't relate to the original Mad Max because I'm guessing you are too young. It has the feel of the falcon xB interceptor with the lettering on the back and the spoiler also the large round light on top. It just has that look......

Here in Tijuana they're using F-150, Silverados and rams since I can remember. They also used ford focus an chevy Cavalier and lasted like 2 years lol.

My town has Chargers and a Ram too which is cool. The RCMP uses mostly the Taurus.

Lot of mentions of the Charger in the comments, which is true, but as a mechanic, I have seen where a lot of them have engine failure from hours of idling. Also in my county, our sheriff dept now has a fleet of Silverados, granted we are pretty rural.

they had a pickup cop car in my hometown of Dublin, TX all the way back in the late 90's.

The sheriff's department where I live still has a couple crown vic's but they have mostly Mopars. Most of them are Chargers but we do have a couple Ram 1500s. I own a Ram 1500 and I think they make great patrol vehicles because the 4dr model like mine has a ton of room and storage space

I really never had thought of that... Want a very reliable and strong car, get a civilian variant of a police car... I once heard that you can get a good daily driver if you get a car that many taxi drivers choose to work with (unless the car is standardized in a country).

Our local PD still has a 7.3 Dually in its fleet. Complete with light bar, livery, and laptop inside

The Mustang was added to police fleets starting in the early 80s in California. The Camaro was in service with Toronto Police by the late eighties.

Did we just forget about the boxy chargers? Pretty sure you can find them on any cop show or department in your area

My dad used to be one of the 3 lead superintendents at the Ford St. Thomas Plant that the Crown Vic was made at. Part of his job was to take a randomly selected vehicle home from the days production for quality control reports. It was always exciting to me and my brothers when he came home with a Pre-commission cruiser or better still the interceptors. Now years after he retired the plant is not only gone but totally razed. Not even the foundations of the building remain. Sad times.
