In fact, that sort of behavior is entwined *in* organized religions, backed by history & modern debate. Suspect you've conflated the reaction to some other horrendous statement which you yourself defended via religious belief... which has also been a running theme (attaching personal flaw to broader ideals goes both ways). At any rate, beliefs are not the same as the essence of humanity. You've confused personal choice with things that are not chosen.

...and that is why we've all become dependent upon late-night comedy shows for the laughs that keep us sane: an antidote to the rage cycle. Thank you, Sarah, that was fantastic.

Sad, and I understand completely. My mechanic, whom I've known for over 20 years, has been a great friend and mentor of mine. I was at his garage working on my car and he's been consumed with all the conspiracy theories, including 9/11 was CGI. I didn't know what to say. Though most aren't theories, just misinformation, hoaxes and propaganda he now seriously believes.

Agreed. I’ve liked all the other guest hosts but Sarah makes it about the show and knows that she is the face of the fantastic team that makes this show happen. That and she’s really funny.

My mother is 94 and watches Faux news constantly because it gets her blood boiling with anger. I believe she's become physically addicted to the adrenalin high generated by that anger like a drug addict who would probably go into physical withdrawal if they don't constantly find a way to become even more outraged.

This rings so true, at some point I suddenly realised that I kept stumbling over one rage-inducing post or story after another. It burned my time and put me under a state of constant stress and anxiety. Now I really have to make a conscious effort to keep as much of the irrelevant rage content out of my life while still staying up to date with news. It’s really hard when absolutely everyone is trying to get your attention, whether it‘s the terrors of war or „this person said something really disparaging about a thing“ using the same tactics. One has to work hard to resist following every rage bunny into a rabbit hole.

I had to totally stop watching all news on TV to stop feeling like doom was seconds away. The cable networks especially hype up how soon something terrible might happen. So you'll keep checking the news. Now I read the local tv news on their website, skim NBC stories, and read newspaper articles online. The news in writing is drastically different than when it is spoken.

That’s one of the best bits I have ever seen on the daily show. Excellent writing and better delivery. Sarah’s kind of a fit here.

It’s not a difference of opinion that’s what everyone in the News tries to say. They try to minimize the split. It’s a difference of morals, values, ethics, and those things are not easily surmounted. An opinion is who you think the best musician is or what your favorite color is. Saying the elderly should not get healthcare or Social Security is not an opinion. It’s a death sentence to those people therefore those values are cruel and evil to me.

And then all Americans cannot even accept the outcome of a presidential election...there is zero difference of opinion. I think the point is to make friends and at least attempt to have these discussion with someone you actually know, and see if all the $hit that the news media is feeding us is what they truly believe or not. And YEAH we are being lied to on both sides. I often challenge the people that agree with my views about some of the things they say with absolutely zero proof other than they heard or read it on a site they watch and hold as gospel. And I have had conversations with people who vote differently than I do, who have great insights on things and 100% agree that SS and Medicare should not be touched. So that it the point. Is to turn off the noise and actually TALK to each other.

Sarah Silverman is awesome. So glad she hosting right now!!

That litter box story is even more depressing than what was mentioned, some schools do have the litter box BUT its use is for lock downs during a school shooting and the kids need to use it in the class room.

To me, this segment feels like another "there are very fine people on both sides" moment. Fox news manufactured the current outrage over critical thinking from essentially nothing by convincing enough people through constant propaganda that critical thinking is bad. Now we have actual laws censoring teachers from telling the truth.

Yeah, as much as I've always been madly in love with Chelsea and Wanda, I think Sarah has a much more seamless and natural delivery than the other two, who both have a tendency to stumble over their words quite a bit and also come off as a little nervous or uncomfortable in their monologues. On the other hand, it looks like the producers are wanting to cast a woman in the chair, which will be a nice and welcome edition to the late night roster, so ultimately I don't really care too much about who they end up selecting if it means an alternative to all the cheesy dad-cringe that all the male hosts are becoming increasingly fond of. 😅

Please hire Sarah to be the next host of the Daily Show. She's the only one that doesn't sound scripted and has always had the best political comedy. I really was frightened with the loss of Trevor Noah. I have watched all the other guest hosts, and none of them come close to the genius and professionalism as Sarah. She's the feeling I get when I watched Jon Stewart back in the day, She's top notch. I'm a dedicated fan for her.

But look at your own phrasing - "both sidesing...is nauseating" is of the same _kind_ of expression of divisive outrage as we can see from more extreme commenters, even if it doesn't show the same _degree_ of divisive outrage. Based on what I heard, I think you may be exaggerating the false equivalency that you're describing.

I had a similar experience with an old friend who started going all right wing claiming a school in his area had litter boxes... blah blh blah but I pressed and pressed and finally the Newsmax brainwashed nitwit had to admit it was all BS. Doesn't mean he believed it was, but he had to concede that he had no facts. People will believe the craziest chiz over rational facts and lies travel 6x faster than truth.

Silverman is THE natural choice for this show. She's intelligent with an absolutely hilarious delivery. I'd imagine that given more control, she'd return this platform to Jon Stewart status.

Which perfectly drove home that confirmations of our biases shouldn't be enough to convince us of anything, because if they're all we need, then grifter a-holes really don't have to think further than that to trick the country. Whenever i read deliciously scandalous news i grin ear to ear thinking "That's hillarious. How do i verify this?", because a claim is either backed by a convincing case for it or not. While the rotation of hosts gives comedians a chance to stretch their legs in the beloved format, i really really hope Sarah sticks around.

I have one friend who is religious and conservative. He’s well informed, rational, and we can have discussions and disagree without it becoming disagreeable. Unfortunately, the rest of the conservatives I know are not well informed. The brush off evidence and facts with, “I don’t believe it.” They refuse to listen to any source that doesn’t agree with their preconceived ideas. They have strong opinions about things they admit they don’t know anything about. And they cannot shut up about it. It’s impossible to have a conversation with them. So no, I’d rather not be around them if I don’t have to.

Sarah, that was one of the best segments in "The Daily Show" history!! 👏👏👏 It is George Carlin-esque. Brilliant, informative, and hilarious 😂 😆

Sarah is clearly the best suited so far out of all the guest hosts! She knows her politics has no filter but keeps the iq above board and is very comfortable talking on stage.

I don’t want to hear someone say they hate my existence and want me dead and then vote for politicians who want to make me non existent. 269 legislations trying to outlaw trans people, all backed by republicans, how can I listen to their opinions if their opinion is they want to outlaw my literal existence. ​@@havable You are right in that it was around before the current internet but its the targeted algorithms that social medias use that have made it a lot worse as it allows people to sit inside their own echo chambers and not even realize it. Its easy to think your point of view is the right and only one when everyone is saying the same thing, its a lot harder to notice that everyone is saying the same thing because they are all just parroting each other.

The closing was just . . . chef's kiss! 👩‍🍳💋

I want this host. All the guest hosts are talented comedians, but this is the one. She makes me belly laugh over the news which SHOULD make you cry. It's definitely her.

My freshman year roommate said, "Originally, the KKK was an honorable organization." Also, other racism not worthy of repeating to make the case that a conservative roommate IS very horrible.

Like Sarah...Leslie Jones and Wanda Sykes are so funny and hit the right notes 📝 as well...3 smart brilliantly funny women plus Chelsea Chandler oh my gosh, YES,YES, YES, YES!!!!!

I’m typically not a big Silverman fan, but this is one of the smartest funny things I’ve seen in a while.

But it's part of the problem. All her examples were from a perspective of the right wing is bad. Her examples were Q is taking over FB and Fox is lying. She didn't mention once how cnn and msnbc use the Same tactics to make you fear the right. This whole segment turned into a right wing bad psa at the end.

Can we just keep rotating hosts? I have absolutely loved everybody that's hosted. They all did a great job. Each added their own personal thing but also nailed what the show is supposed to be about. I've seen so much support for each one of the hosts in the comments, and I thought, 'I don't envy whomever it is at Comedy Central Comedy Central having to make this choice'. But then I realized, do we really have to cuz this is kind of working. And most of the people they've had on have busy careers anyway. I don't know if it's possible but I, for one, would be cool with it.

"difference of opinion" - What music, food, what the tax rates should be is a "difference of opinion". When someone else thinks that certain people shouldn't have certain rights that others have, tha'ts a fundamental difference of values.
