HOW SPONSORS HELPED IMAM RABIQUAL SPEAK UP FOR GIRLS

Although it’s illegal, more than half of the girls in Barishal in southern Bangladesh are married between the ages of 12 and 18 - and the damage to their health, education, income and opportunities often stays with them for life.
Sponsors are partnering with leaders from Muslim, Hindu and Christian faith communities like Imam Rabiqual to share information with their communities about deeply embedded cultural norms like child marriage, child labour and the physical punishment of children, and to advocate for change.
Now:
More people are aware of the risks of child marriage
More people are connecting with government prevention services
More cases of child marriage are being reported and stopped
Community relationships are stronger as faith leaders work together on common goals, breaking down the barriers between faith communities.
