It really is and the wait was worth it. Being the true winner of the ballot cause he united disney and square enix. How else would you make a game worth playing for disney, RPGs were a big thing back in the day and still are but for teens it made a good mix.

Great video. Sora's white costume is actually his Ultimate Form from KH3 rather than his final form from 2.

As someone who doesn't play smash very much, but is a mega mega Kingdom Hearts fan, I can't begin to explain how much it means to me to see Sora be recognized as good enough and iconic enough to be added as the lasy fighter. I still get teary eyed watching his announcement trailer. It just makes me beyond emotional. KH started because of a chance meeting, and the same reason got him into smash, I csnt think of a more perfect way to end it.

Sora was the only live reveal I was able to watch, the others got spoiled before I could see the trailers (a bit of a disappointment with Sephiroth and Minecraft Steve, those would have been nice to see live). I'm glad he was the one I saw live, I cried on seeing the Keyblade. Kingdom Hearts dictated my childhood, it was emotional and an amazing ride, even if 3 was a bit of a disappointment, but seeing Sora with that music... still makes me teary.

As a mega mega fan of Both Smash and Kingdom Hearts (they're tied as my favorite game series of all time) I was beyond emotional and on the edge of my seat when Mario threw the fire and the keyblade emerged. I've been wanting Sora in Smash since guest fighters first became a thing way back in 08 for Brawl.

Competitive wise, Kameme is the best Sora player and is ranked 9th in world with the character. He shows the character’s combo capabilities which is completely absurd

Well, all combat in KH is based on hitting combos (By spamming the X button sure, but who really cares about that)

Well to me, Soras spells rotating in his specials, reminds me more of the command deck from birth by sleep and dream drop

If there is another Smash, it'll never be like Ultimate roster wise. Unlikely Sora will be in it in. Ultimate is a unicorn that probably won't be repeated ever again

@@Skuxxed Yeah, I feel like Sakurai wouldn't want to make a smash game if he couldn't keep up with the roster, as he seems to be the kind of guy who would never want to make a new title that regresses from the previous in any way. But if he does go fucking Ultra Instinct on a sequel and we get all the previous plus more it would be the best thing since sliced bread

Really good case for defending Sora's inclusion. We got the happy ending instead of getting the bad ending with Waluigi and I couldn't be more happy with that. Love your dry humor btw.

This reveal was so hype, I wanted to go play the KH games for the first time.

No matter how you feel about Sora, my passion to play the character will not cease. Imo, he was the best character to end on. been getting this video recommended to me for a while now, finally gave it a watch and im thoroughly impressed. good video dude!

Sora would've been amazing in PlayStation All-Stars. The combat mechanic that game had and the possibilities on a drive form gauge to transform would've been unlike any other. Glad Nintendo managed to pull this off for Smash Bros.

I’m really happy that Sora is finally in super smash brothers. Kingdom hearts has become really really popular because of Super Smash Brothers! We have heroes like Link,Pit, Shulk,Mario,Sonic,Kirby and Samus That represent light and darkness, and that’s what kingdom hearts all about!

12:18 IDK, I've had fun with Sonic spaming my signature Sonic combo of jump, up-special and dair. There's not a whole lot of actual tactical advantage to this unless you're playing a game with four to eight characters, it's just fun. Also one time I had a command-off playing as Hero in an online lobby hosted by an acquaintance of mine, good times.

3:27 Actually disney was open mind the whole time with the idea of seen sora in smash and it was nomura been stupid for getting worried on how he's inclussion in smash will be canon in the lore of kh, believed or not that was the main reason it took a while to see Sora in smash and this info was brought thanks to an interview with him back in june of last year when we got some kh4 news, as a kh fan this got me suprise and i wish many people knew about it.

ah, of course it was nomura being a weirdo all along 😂 i absolutely love nomura and his character designs but man, nowadays when that guy is in charge of things it just seems to be a mess every single time. at this point, i can only guess he's most of the problem. seems he finally found his groove again working on the 7 remake and its 100 spinoffs

That's not true at all. Nomura was just worried on how they would make Sora act like how he does in his games.

8:51 The way magic rotates for Sora in SSBU is a reference to the Deck Command. Moves would need a cooldown before they can be used again in BBS, re: coded and DDD

Dude imagine coming from Smash Bros. 64 era and seeing Smash Bros. Ultimates roster like I am now. It blows my mind on how many characters there are now. We came from the OG 8-12 and now more than 30+ characters it's crazy!! I love how it's progressed and I couldn't be happier with the ending to the roster. Kingdom Hearts is my all time favorite franchise/series and I was ecstatic, to say the least, when Sora was revealed as the final character!!! Long live Smash!!!

Kinda funny how nowadays, Kazuya is really the only guest in Smash who is still "primarily Sony" as every other character who used to fit that bill, namely Snake, Cloud and Joker, now have various installments of their franchise on the Switch. Whereas there's only like three games still of the Tekken series on Nintendo consoles and not a single one of them on thw Switch

Sora’s reveal was epic. I never thought Disney would allow him to be invited to Super Smash Bros. Apparently It happened at the Game Awards, Sakurai had an envelope with the Smash Bros Symbol on it and gave it to a Disney Producer. They then had a meeting about the character. Sure enough it was approved.

2:30 One day KOS-MOS and 2B might be in Smash together.

The fact that we got Sora, a Disney owned character, is still beyond me. (I'm sorry, anyone who still thinks that it's a joint ownership needs to read the copyright for the Kingdom Hearts series) That's also now two out of pocket companies that have a correlation with video games either in the past or present with Microsoft (Xbox Game Studios, got their start with Windows) listed when Banjo came and Disney (The now defunct Disney Interactive, despite still holding the rights to the KH series; got their start with old cartoons) when Sora came.

You just know Nomura is going to find a way to make this entry cannon.

Yet Disney was 100% okay for Sonora to be added The only one that was holding sore back to not being Smash Bros ultimate was tetsuya nomura Because he specifically said adding surah to the world of Smash Bros ultimate would have thrown off the lore for Kingdom Hearts... Only for him to realize that the characters in that game are just figurines brought to life by the imagination of children fighting on stages.

Jeez! The Kingdom Hearts are arriving in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate almost 1 and the half year.

I’ve long been at the sidelines while people had fun with melee and brawl. I’ve not seem any other game in the industry that had this level of collaboration before. Time to finally join in with all of these characters!

Havent watched the video yet but sora does deserve a spot. Hes a bery historic gaming character more known than alot of people in smash only known because of smash bros

10:43 One does not simply break Kaclang! (Metal Slash doesn't even work that way in Dragon Quest. It was designed to make it easier to kill metal slimes and their variations, which have insane evasion even though evasion isn't even a stat in DQ _and_ they run away... (Course in the DQBuilders game, if you manage to avoid their agro radius, you can build a wall around them to box them in, I did this to a King Metal Slime in DQB2 once).

6:44 common miconception! this isn't final form from kingdom hearts 2 but ultimate form from kingdom hearts 3. the stripey pants (and the KH3 pose in his model) are a dead giveaway. though it is essentially a spiritual successor of final form lol

This is the most accurate vid I've seen of Sora and his moves' origins. Only inaccuracy was the eighth costume being attributed to Final Form from KH2 when it's actually based off Ultimate Form, the Form Change of the Ultima Weapon in KH3. Though, I understand the confusion considering Ultimate Form took clear inspiration from Final Form.

Square Enix characters was a game changer for ssbu . They made me go back to that game just to main those characters

And saying it would have been tricky to get Smash ultimate be a part of Kingdom Hearts lore... Not realizing that they're all not real in that game, they are figuring trophies in the spitting images of the characters brought to life by the imaginations of people who put them on stage and fight each other.

Wish we'd gotten 13 music tracks in total instead of 10. It's really hard for me to pick out what the other 3 should've been, but here's a list of some tracks that I think would've been nice to have: Working Together (KH2) The 13th Struggle (KH2) The Other Promise (KH2) Vim and Vigor (KH2) Rowdy Rumble (KH2) Vector to the Heavens (358/2 Days) Another Side (358/2 Days) Rage Reawakened (BBS) Calling -Kingdom Mix- (3D) Sacred Distance (3D)

I would like to point out, square wasn't stingy with the ff7 content. Moreso the artwork and music for ff7 is a copyright lawyer's nightmare. I've found at least 22 different companies who own parts of the ff7 soundtrack. Sakurai even mentioned it during the sephiroth presentation. Rumor has it sephiroth was given to Nintendo at a discount to help afford the music rights (probably since the rumor of square being stingy was so rampant) I'd also like to point out Sora isn't the character owned by the most companies in smash. Even ignoring the ff7 music thing, Hero is actually the character owned by the most companies. Sora is owned by Disney(Nomura was only involved with sora's inclusion by request of Disney and not because Square partially own Sora, which isnt actually the case it turns out), but Hero is owned by square Enix, bird studio, and armor project. The insanity that is the dragon quest ownership made Sakurai think it'd be impossible to get a DQ hero initially. And like cloud we didn't get fully away since the DQ soundtrack is separately owned by composer Koichi Sugiyama (who was a genuinely horrible person by the way). I know this video wasn't focused on the copyright of these characters but personally I find it fascinating especially since the general public see it as an entirely different scenario

Nah that's a great point. Didn't realise Hero was so intricate in terms of ownership. Would love to Sakurai talk more about the discussions involved with getting these characters in the game but I assume legally it would be difficult to talk about.

For sure. Maybe we'll get some info regarding the copyright scenarios in sakurai's development video for ultimate on his KZread channel.

I wish they did a MK8DX style dlc pass. They could aim to boost the characters up to a 100 and add the stages that are missing alongside a few new stages and balance patches.

Yeah it's a shame they didn't just adopt a live service model where they just continue to add characters/stages over time because there's no way the next Smash will live up to Ultimate's roster.

​@@SkuxxedI feel like that wouldn't be a good idea. For smash it's not that they create new characters but borrow them from other companies. Sometimes their Nintendo IP but the ones people really want are 3rd party characters. I feel like it would be pretty hard if their constantly negotiating with these other companies when even one could be more work than it's worth.

Would've been cool to get master chief or some kind of valve rep like any of the tf2 mercs, or gordon

Correction: Kazuya wasn't supposed to be the last character, that was Steven, which makes sense because why would they end the Smash DLC with 1st party character when they could end with friggin' Steve from Minecraft, who already broke Twitter when he was announced. But when they got Sora, they rearranged the slots so that Sora would be the last one.

"Putting in end to the greatest video game crossover of all time" Y'know, until it turns out Ultimate was Canon, and Sora woke up in the KH4 trailer after his trials in Smash came to an end. Wreck-It-Ralph is the link. Xehanort was Master Hand and Crazy Hand all along. He always dreamed of a world of equal Light & Dark and that's what happens at the end of Ultimate's Campaign Mode. Now Sora has to travel through Disney Properties AND Video Games. Animal Crossing replaces Winnie the Pooh.

If it makes you feel any better masahiro Sakurai didn't want to include them but the attendance gave him a list where he had to pick a character So he wasn't given much of a choice to be honest.

People who didn't want sora in smash: People who have a brain and good taste in game franchises.(I'm one of those people) People who did wanted sora in smash: DISNEY HERETICS who have no taste for more interesting game franchises. (I'm sorry if some people find this offensive but this is just my Personal opinion)
