It's not a scam as long as the product description is accurate and you receive the item. This is how most bussiness models work, buy cheap, and mark up. The difference is no inventory and online shopping

Hate that it’s still considered a scam and really scummy to do but honestly it’s no different than what Jeff Bezos was doing when he started AMAZON. He was getting book orders and going and getting the book as cheap as possible from another bookstore/thrift store/department store/box store etc and sending it out. The difference from Bezos then and people doing drop shipping now is everything is done online, you don’t even have to go to a retailer or wholesaler you just click the left mouse button a few times on the computer and you have ordered the product directly to the person.

Basically, everybody should just REPORT/FORWARD their video ad to the IRS to ensure they pay their fair-share of taxes since they're bragging how much money they're making. If the IRS sees they're not paying that amount for tax day, then those folks are lying about their income then will be reported to the SEC/FTC for scam. A DOUBLE WHAMMY POISON for these scammers.

It's a great business model for people who don't want to full-out create a branded business from scratch, but the problem is, consumers have greater trust in brands with rich stories and products actually under a branded name. Dropshipping axes this part out, making a website like one of those mom-n-pop shops that sells randomly-branded items.

@@frankythomas1032 he has bogus claims on websites like debutify claiming “$10M in revenue”, his teachings are absolute trash, the stores he speaks of him doing are only doing $1k/day if that. I’ve been doing ecommerce for 7 years building real fully custom brands(not white labeled from China) and also done dropshipping, so it’s easy to spot a fraud. If he makes good money in ecommerce, then he wouldn’t have the time to spend as much as he does selling courses. Feel free to believe me or not, but that’s up to you who you chose to get your information/education from. Him being on this video is just to give off the persona like he’s doing something. Just don’t buy his course, they’re all recycled BS that’s already free on the internet. Nick Peroni, on the other hand is an honest and real figure you should follow.

"Touch of Modern" is a prominent example of this, being nothing more than an email list sent out to its subscribers, selling products for far more than it actually is.

"Indestructible Shoes" was/is a popular example who did/does this by trying to make their drop-shipped products coming off like an actual custom brand, but it wasn't being something of a drop-shipped white-label being FAR EXPENSIVE with WEAK CUSTOMER SUPPORT who have not knowledge of their products.

It's been happening everywhere for a while, it's just due to the pandemic dropshipping entered the mainstream as ecommerce took a piece of the traditional retail pie and lots of young people (some of whom lost their jobs due to covid) thought it would be a nice way of trying to make some money.

Also i used to be a droppshipper for Apple laptops on amazon, and amazon literally held my funds and cut my shop because I was beating amazon. Literally a fact, and I did that in 2011. I just made a call and amazon took 20 percent of my 50 bucks I made doing 1 phone call. Now you cannot do that, or i would not be telling you how. ha.

It may seem stupid, but Used item is very easy to search in social platform, they know where we live too so it's easy to match product at where we live. If the account is really old, then the seller is probably can be trusted. Its easy to sell something at social platform as a seller too because social site already know all of your data, no need to fill any more unnecessary data like where you sell.

I recently ordered a "3rd printed" carpet. The design was very unique in the sense, it had all the greatest race tracks on it. I got to the order site via FB. After I ordered, I couldn't get a tracking number nor could I find a expected shipping and arrival date. Then scarily, I saw the same product appear on other FB pages and similar websites. I thought I was being scammed. Finally my product did arrive, and funny thing was the merchant didn't send me the tracking number till I had already recieved the product. NOW, I see what happened... dropshipping. I'm super lucky that the product was exactly as described, but I did feel scared.

People saying, "oh it's a scam because we can buy it cheaper" Not realizing this is how most businesses make money, they buy from a supplier then they sell a product at a higher price. The only difference it the bigger businesses either a) buy out their supplier or b) are so big they can negotiate with a supplier to get even cheaper then a small business can. Droppshipping is not a scam, but sites that seem legit may be scammers keep that in mind and please excuse any grammar errors thank you.

The issues also are, some of the things they sell are possibly illegal in the country sold, the burito blanket can include dangerous chemicals. I would be careful.

Another thing to be incredibly wary of is to never use a debit card when purchasing from social media. Always use a credit card so that you maintain chargeback rights and maximum consumer protections. Equally important, if your card is authorized outside of the US from a company that looks and acts like it is in the US, do not authorize it and abandon your cart. Also remember that unless expressly stated that you agree to finalize payment prior to the item being shipped, the merchant cannot settle your transaction unless they intend to ship the product within 48 hours. For example, if a product you intend to purchase is bespoke, then the merchant will often place a message asking you to agree to finalize the payment prior to shipping due to the custom nature of the product.

The problem with drop shipping is it provides zero value to customers. All that is happening is a person is buying marked up Chinese garbage for double to triple the price of what they could buy it for on AliExpress, for garbage shipping times, garbage packaging, garbage customer service probably, and there's always a pretty decent chance you won't even get your product. Dropshipping should be considered a scam in most cases.

Tonnes of retailers buy from China and markup the prices exponentially, that's basic business, you buy low and sell high. This sounds like most retailers, so I don't really see that as a valid argument. The only conundrum I see with dropshipping is not being able to investigate the quality of the products yourself.

This is such a wasteful concept. Like how hard is it to just go on aliexpress or dhgate directly?

Drop shippers make marketing. While it is cheaper to buy products directly from manufacturer in China, Chinese manufacturers lack expertise and/or finances to create a good marketing campaign. So even if they create a good product, most people might not notice it.

AliExpress is NOT popularly well-known, even though it is the direct-to-consumer part of the direct-to-business Alibaba. Once it is, it will be death of the drop-shipping scam model, and maybe even Amazon being far cheaper price for goods than Amazon too. Good riddance.

main problem: US made product just so expensive and user just care about price/quality. not like a USA made yoga pants for 80 dollar while you can find one at the same quality for 12 dollar. if iphone was made in USA it will clost like $ 2000

In my experience on dropship, you better outsource products from US with better quality and speed delivery instead of aliexpress stuff. and payment gateway can become headache if you use paypal they can hold your money for 180 days for non sense reason, last but not least is build a strong and long term trust with customer if you want to stay longer in this business. Commitment is the main key in this business.

I go to the store and buy what I need. Works like a charm every time. Just sayin`

I use simple technique. If you see some interesting product in Instagram or Facebook ad then just note it down and then go to aliexpress and search that product, believe me you will get the same product in atleast three times lesser price.

But the product will arrive in 60days+ when you order it directly at AliExpress. There are some dropshippers like us who are taking this as a serious business model. Who are partnering directly to a faster logistics company and buy our inventory and store it at the partnered logistics warehouses. And has people who undergoes quality assurance to all products before sending it to customers. Who can provide customers with 15 business days or less delivery times to USA and Au.

So this is what those marketing majors do after graduation lol

I’ve always wanted to get into this but I don’t see how some random website can make millions. I’m not saying it’s impossible but I personally wouldn’t buy something from a random website with a long shipping time.

Shopify isn't just for dropshipping. I use Shopify as a point of sale software for my print shop.

Dropshipping takes a lot of work. It ain't easy money that's for sure.

Sales people have one of the hardest jobs in the world to do ,they deal with rejection on a daily basis. Making a sale comes down to powering through call call email after email and no after no. is there anyone who disagrees with this?

It's interesting how the manufacturers are not selling to the end customers themselves. And that's where the middleman/salesperson comes in.

Wow, dropshipping just got a lot more interesting. I didn't want to do it back in the day because Amazon was suspending so many people's stores.

I'm a dropshipper. I will be honest with you. It's not an outright scam, but it certainly wouldn't pass US product standards if it were regulated. Basically you're just getting Chinese products, some of them are good, most of them bad, and there are the few that are downright ugly. The "Legitimate" ones are in the same boat. People who fall in to these are impulse buyers. They see an ad, they buy. The usual "victims" here are usually also the same kind of people that are "victims" of credit card debt. What else can I say but there is a market for this. People seemingly just want to be misled so to speak. Other "legit" industries do it all the time. We're not as bad as the worst though. At least we're not pharmaceuticals selling people false ailments and unnecessary cures.

I certainly agree with you. I wanted to watch this video to see what all the commotion about dropshipping was all about. I agree that it's not necessarily a scam, not necessarily a ruse, but there does seem to be a form of "underhanded-ness" abou it that even the honest, legitimate ones fall prey to. I won't knock these people's hustle, but it's definitely heavy on the "hustle" aspect. Would I give it a try? I'm still not sure....It feels like although this is supposed to be a passive method of income, the best results seem to come from having a team that is cracking away at it like a full-time job. And either you have all that in the beginning or you eventually make your way up to getting that. But again, it seems to find its way back to being a full-time job again.

I bought one of the planetarium lights for your walls from tiktok. I literally had to completely install it to include the electrical wiring... Live and learn I guess.

Some Kickstarter items also fit this description of "buy cheap from AliExpress, add huge markup and marketing, profit". Recently bought a Hyperdrive 6in1 hub, paying almost 3x more than a generic hub which looked exactly the same, thinking the extra money and "designed in USA" tag would mean better components. Nope! Overheats and terrible hiss in audio. I normally buy these electronics directly from AliExpress but the stupid politics in my country have made it harder for me to get more value for my money (shipping restrictions for Chinese products) and easier for unscrupulous sellers to make a quick buck.

I would do this as a side hustle for extra income, being prepared for the next pandemic

So only buy directly from the manufacturers amazon page, amazon themselves, walmart themselves, and other etailers sites. Also I thought best buy canada was the only one that did the marketplace?

That's what I'm wondering...because although you might get the product weeks later, maybe months, and you don't like it, maybe at least you paid $6 for it, not $26.

Buy with a credit card, if it’s not legit you reverse the charge through the credit card. The company will get a fee for the reversal and they won’t last long.

I'm a bit confused. Does the seller manually enter the customer's address and order the exact same product, or is it set up as automatically buying from the original manufacturer/ cheaper seller's website? Is it automated? Answer to my own question: It's not automated. You also have to make a website like "Snugito Buritto Blanket" or "San Francisco Kitchen Store" and upload the same picture, or make your own, of the product and pretend that YOU are the ORIGINAL manufacturer of the product. It's a secret and no one ever displays the link to the real supplier.

to be honest, dropshipping is basically a business. people make it look like it's get-rich-quick scheme but you're literally doing the same thing as other businesses do. you're just not seeing, packaging, and shipping the actual product.

Don't stop buying just because of that. There are people that offer their genuine products on Instagram. Myself included, I sell some of my photo prints there, photos taken by me, not crap brought from China.

Literally had a drop shipping ad right before this video...

"Indestructible Shoes" was/is a popular example who did/does this by trying to make their drop-shipped products coming off like an actual custom brand, but it wasn't being something of a drop-shipped white-label being FAR EXPENSIVE with WEAK CUSTOMER SUPPORT who have not knowledge of their products.

it seems aliexpress is the source, why can't aliexpress provide better service of both fulfillment and product quality?

Aliexpress isn't the seller / manufacturer. They are just like ebay. You don't buy products from Aliexpress, but from sellers on Aliexpress. Their main job is to negotiate refunds between you and the seller if something goes wrong. The whole point in shopping on Aliexpress is to buy products for cheap prices. Better service and quality control would mean, that the product prices would rise and some sellers would migrate to other Chinese platforms like BangGood or Gearbest. And since these products would cost more on Aliexpress, dropshippers would buy them on these other platforms.

One of the problem is, that people are blaming China for this, but honestly: It doesnt matter if it comes from China, Philipines, Germany or your Backyard, Scammers gonna Scam and will find new Ways to trick you. Ban scamming and not China (at least not for this reason)

E-commerce was supposed to cut out the middle man and give producers direct access to consumers. As we can see, e-commerce has only grown the power of the middle man and multiplied their numbers.

Not every factory has the resource to do advertising and marketing and retails. Those are completely different skills from their daily work. Those small to mid size factory owners would rather just deal with manufacturing than selling online. I would say most of them will fail if they try to sell their products online by themselves. The dropshipping model exists for a reason. It's a win-win situation for the retailers and factories. The better outcome is that smaller dropshippers grow to become a big brand then they have more power to negotiate price and quality with factories and then they can provide better customer service and shorter shipping time.

I'm all in for small business and independent livelihoods, however there's a difference between providing value to community and being a middle man for blind consumerism. Market middle men have been increasingly taking advantage of artists, musicians, farmers, and many more for decades now. The suicide rate in these groups are among the highest. I'm pretty damn sure that adding a huge wave of middle men to the market is only going to make everything more difficult for true small businesses and make online purchasing even more opaque.

I saw an add for some cute clothing on Facebook from a supposed small business in South Carolina. The website was horrible, I should have known better. I eventually got the dresses but they were not made of jersey knit as advertised, it was some cheap polyester. The shipping label was from New York with an Asian name on it. The tag in the dress was "made with love" with no brand. I kept the dresses but will probably only wear them once or twice before trashing them.

You should be asking yourself: "why should i pay money to someone who never assessed first hand and ensured the product they are supposedly advertising for selling, haven't touched or viewed the products themselves before giving the go- ahead for it to pass as selling-condition" ?

You call checking photos of the product online "a quality control" if I told my boss that I'll do that, I would get fired. You ain't controlling anything when the product isn't with you.

You know that the real customers on Aliexpress post reviews on Aliexpress along with pictures? That's one good way to see if the quality of the product and shipping times is consistent. But whatever, you're clearly deeply entrenched in this and know what you're talking about...
