He got 6/7 in the Ashes becoming a living legend, he's the peoples champion, he's a great role model due to his personality, hard work ethic, talent and indigenous heritage, and he's 33 so he doesn't have a tonne of time. He's proved himself on the big stage, so I say use him for a few years while he's bowling is incredible, then when he retires one of the other guys can get a shot.
I was there!!! Absolute crazy scenes I couldn't even believe what was happening in front of me. I'll never forget it!
He is good because he has bowl in his name.

I was at this years Boxing Day test and when boland came on to bowl the crowd went wild Amazing day
Experience. Accuracy. Bowls well in Australia. Time will tell how overseas tests go for him. Deserved his chance and has done very well.
I think there's a few reasons why Boland has suddenly come onto the scene so late and so successfully, 1 is definitely him knowing his game inside and out due to his experience in playing Shield cricket for a decade before selection. 2 and I think most importantly is the invention and widespread use of the wobble-seam delivery in the last few years in test cricket of which Boland uses to great effect. It adds even more doubt as to which way the ball is going to move off the pitch as the seam is moving (wobbling) as the ball comes down and forces batters to play at a lot more deliveries that normally they'd be confident leaving, causing more balls to take the edge. 3 I think the reason he came onto the scene so late is a bit down to Aussie cricket culture, typically the 135kph bowlers who hit a length and try and extract seam movement are a very "English" type of seam bowler, whereas Australia have nearly always trusted more the express pace bowlers, probably because traditionally it suits their conditions better and maybe because they have a proud history of having quick & intimidating attacks. It's "very Australian to bowl fast", we've seen other similar type bowlers to Boland also have to wait a long time or their chances (Bird, Neser, Sayers etc.) and none given long runs/failing to take their chance and moved out for a returning big quick.... I think Boland is a great prospect, and there's definitely room in Aussie side for a bowler like him (hell McGrath took nearly 600poles and he wasnt quick) and I expect him to do well in England in 2023. can't see him keeping that bonkers average up as I feel that is definitely small sample size/helped by playing some average opposition but I hope he gets a decent crack in the next few years. Nice video! :)

Very astute observations. He's in the other illustrious group of pace bowlers before him like Jimmy Anderson, McGrath, Hadlee, Botham, Kapil Dev, Alderman, Hilfenhaus and even DK Lillee in the latter half of his career.

Wobble seam was perfected by Mohammad Asif many years ago, which is why he was totally unplayable. Asif got a lot more movement than Boland off the wobble seam. Also according to Misbah, Asif somehow was able to tell where the wobble seam would seam the ball, which used to shock Misbah as Asif on multiple occasions would tell Misbah exactly where the ball would move and get the batsman out.

He is a Boland as am I, he is a legend already even if he never plays another test...
I think you also missed the fact that the changes to the Kookaburra ball in the last couple of years with a more pronounced raised seam has made seam bowlers like Boland far more dangerous than they previously were. If you look at Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc, all three of these players can swing the ball both ways, so it's not wonder they were able to beat out the competition when playing with the less lively Kookaburra ball of old.

Boland and Ollie Robinson are the break-out bowlers of the past 18 months, and are very similar in style...medium pace but very accurate, wobble the ball both ways and prey on suspect defenses, very few batsmen in the current era have the techniques to withstand such probing & nagging accuracy
@JagmeetSinghBalagan

Both are different style bowlers boland can hit the deck when needed, Boland has more pace I’ve seen him in shield cricket and premier cricket he can bowl high 130s casually 140s with great control but ollie bowls at low 130s sometimes in mid 120s thats why he struggled in ashes coz he never hit the deck his only strength is to release, swing and use of the crease. Swing he will only get in england may be in Nz but around every other place you need skills pace reverse swing. Im not saying ollie is not good but he is less as compare to boland. Mark my word’s boland will make huge difference in upcoming series in india coz he can reverse too. He has everything to be a great medium fast bowler. Cheers mate im sorry if im wrong no hard feelings enjoy your day cheers 🥂

@@JagmeetSinghBalagan you too....I do disagree to be fair, as Robinson just proved with Jimmy in Pakistan with conventional and reverse swing combined with unrelenting accuracy. he was unfit in the Ashes a couple of years ago and down on his stock pace, which is mid 130's and even unfit took 11 wkts at 25 which is hardly a struggle....I Personally and this no doubt will polarize opinion, but Englands attack based around Robinson, Anderson, Wood, Archer and co will blow Australia away next summer, and that is to take nothing away from Australia's bowlers who are top class

That day at the G, was simply amazing to be part of...... glad to be there. Hope Boland gets a chance in the UK with lots of movement....
As an Indian, I want Australia to win the next Ashes in England, and Boland will have lot of work to do there. The main reason he gets wickets is his attitude.

It will be great to see him in English conditions with the Duke ball. He's the type that does well in England. Should be a great ashes series starting in June.
Bolands MCG spell made me cry. It’s near impossible to break into the Australian team as the standards here are insane. But they also show loyalty to the boys at the top. It takes a lot to see them rotated out. He’s bought himself the 1st call up slot for sure. Even though I’m a Jye Richardson fan Boland was a a nice replacement for Hazlewood. Jye for Patty. Neser or Morris for Starc. Gives good depth and keeps these lads performing for their spot.

I think he is more of a bustling bowler like Ryan Harris and to some extent Jason Gillespie. That bustle to the crease like a Ryan Harris or Steyn compliments this Australian attack, especially with opposition feeling the pressure from Cummins and extra pace of Starc. So opposition most likely have to try score runs off Boland, hence his tight lines adds problems

And he's a really nice, quality bloke into the bargain. Says something about Australia's fast bowling stocks when you have a lineup like Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Neser, Boland, Richardson and guys like Morris and Steketee still in the wings. If some of these fringe guys were Kiwis, Pakistanis or West Indians (for example) they'd be playing consistent Test Cricket.
Thanks Mate. Keep it up!
Fantastic insight as always!
Love me some Boland. Good humble boy
Back in 2016 in Jan Rohit was making a mockery of him and Hastings in ODIs..I really had a horrible feeling about such poor Aussie bowling since I am never used to with this..his recent run has been phenomenal, infact I had to check if he was Scott Boland or any new Boland after his 6 for 7..anyways good to see low-key characters get success
Nice video, need more of this kind 👌🏼❤️
Australia is just so strong with their fast bowlers. You look at injury prone Jhye Richardson, who'd be opening bowler in any other team in the world. An absolute star. He fits in the top 5 with Boland and the usual top 3 (Cummins, Starc and Haselwood). But now you have Morris and Neser leapfrogging over the top due to his injuries.
Really like the on point presentation 🔥

Scot Boland my favourite player
Scott Boland reminds me of Glenn McGrath, in terms of pace, accuracy and consistency.
Thank you for this summary, I think Boland will remain a valuable asset in the coming years, despite being an older bowler. It is a shame that he was unable to break into the starting XI earlier. Out of curiosity, what's the name of the upbeat instrumental song used in the first part of this video? Cheers
That sort of 'target the 1 inch napkin' style reminds me of one of the reasons Glenn McGrath was so good, especially when you team him up with a Warnie (or similar, there's obviously only one Warnie RIP m8). Always gr8 to see grinders like him him breaking out!

BG Trophy 2023 will be exciting!
His style of bowling reminds me of Terry Alderman. One of the things that he has / must focus on is hitting the top of the off stump. Time and time again. If he can do that, and get his radar tuned in within his first over at each venue, England and Wales will be a great hunting ground for him! By focusing on the top of off stump, this will force those who face him to play at each delivery, even though the striker's style of play may be to leave as many balls as possible. By forcing the striker to play, this will bring the wicketkeeper / slips / gully / point into play. A short leg may also be a good investment, due to being a seam bowler. On the other side of the coin, if the striker is of the opinion that the ball is moving away, and it is left... good chance of the off stump being disturbed. So, that is where the focus has to be - especially in England. Another good trick, which it amazes me very few bowlers use... deliver the ball from the palm of the hand, rather than from the fingertips. By doing this, you are delivering the ball at a slower speed, and the striker is through their stroke before the ball arrives. If you are accurate, this increases the chances of getting the striker leg before, or bowled, or, as a third option, a caught and bowled.
Australia analyse the opponent perfectly. And put players at the right time 🙏🤙🇦🇺👏
Boland’s wobble ball is very, very good and, as it is a subtle variation, people overlook it.
3:10 Gill should have been watching this video instead complaining in the internet

@SilverTouch NBA he's in the squad
I'm glad you showed Ryan Harris, a SEVERELY underplayed fast bowler. The selectors are the problem.
With effortless ability to "land it on a sixpence" and bowl in "the corridor of uncertainty" Boland impressed in the last game by being the anchor: Chipping away while others made magic around him, he reminded of Philander, Dizzy, Glenn & even Warne. He will arguably get wonderful reverse swing in the subcontinent more accurately than Starc and will, like Lee step up and graduate to leader of the attack. Boland should be an automatic selection for NZ, South Africa & England tours. Age means he will not achieve as much as he could have, but he will do enough to be remembered as a great due to the infallible classicism of his bowling-style.
Good video. Analysis a bit simplistic. “Accurate and seamer” was about it. I understood he gets backspin on the ball which gives it more bounce than expected.
He's like Siddle and McGrath in one
Nice content
Australia are going through the period West Indies went through from late 1970's to early 1990's. We were spoilt for choices when it came to fast bowling. There were fast bowlers back then who could walk into any test team but couldnt make the West Indies test team because the test players were that good.
Credit to England for slowing him down in the current series. It takes a brave team to attack a bowler with a test average under 15
He is like another legend glenn magrath
