How Sails Really Work Video 3 - The hull and VMG

Part 3 uses an exploration of upwind and downwind Velocity Made Good to see how the performance of the hull and sails are balanced to maximize VMG. Explains the forces on the hull and keel that cause 'rounding up' and how some points of sail should avoided to maximize downwind VMG.

Thank you for this tutorial. Been fascinated by the 35th & 36th America’s Cup. Now I’m addicted to all kinds of sailing. Your tutorial helps me understand some of the challenges enormously.

James: I am a newbie sailor on the Columbia River in Portland and really enjoy your lectures. I can’t believe you are not getting more viewers and am telling everyone I know about them. I will continue to follow your channel and hope you provide more instructional videos. Have you ever posted the answers to your questions at the end of this video online? Thanks, Dale

Thanks for the kind note. Most of the views of these videos have been on Facebook, but I suspect people are having a tough time finding them on UTube. I do plan to put together another video in the next couple of months that will provide my answers to the tricky questions at the end of video 3. Should be fun!
