Great video! I'd use these at no more than 30 yards for plinking and pest control. CCI also has a segmented Quiet round that works well on small game.

Great video. I just started using the regular non semi auto 22 quiet with great results. I think the semi auto stuff is actually a bit louder since it is made a little hotter in order to cycle the autos. Thanks

I see you are using ''Quiet-22 Semi-Auto 22 LR 45 Grain'' ammo that lists a velocity of 835 fps and bullet wt of 45 grains. The quiet ammo I have is rated at about at 710 fps and has a bullet wt of 40 grain and will not usually function a 10/22. It is labeled as ''Quiet-22 Segmented HP 22 LR 40 Grain''. There is also ''Quiet-22 22 LR 40 Grain'' identical to the segmented in velocity that uses just a plain lead bullet. As already mentioned you need to hold the bolt shut on a blow back gun to cut noise.

Very quiet out of my Winchester 72, 24" barrel.

Good evaluation, but a couple of flaws. A significant source of the noise is the action cycling. As the shot noise degreases, the contribution from the action becomes greater. Also the placement of the sound measuring device is critical. Your placement favors the sensing of action noise. A better placement would be perpendicular to the muzzle at some number of feet. One last suggestion is to make sure your measuring device can accurately measure impulse noise. That is usually a little more advanced feature. Most sound meters are geared towards steady noise. I'm not trying to be critical at all, just helpful. I'm an engineer and I've done a lot of this type of measurement. The accuracy part of this was great info, but a closed bolt gun and a few test parameter adjustments are needed for a meaningful sound evaluation / comparison..

I appreciate the feedback! I will try it with a bolt gun and measuring at the muzzle for better results. I put it back near me because that’s where it was in line with my ear so it’s what I was hearing behind the gun. I was running a silicone bolt buffer but I’m sure it was still picking up some from it cycling. Regardless, I’ll run it back the way you were saying and record the results! As always I appreciate the feedback!

@@gunology1994 I look forward to seeing it! I did actually buy a bunch of this ammo based on your accuracy assessment. Often times this very low velocity ammo really falls short on accuracy. Yes, that bolt buffer does reduce the clack a good bit! Most of my experimentation was around the development of suppressors, and I quickly found that action noise had to be eliminated to really hear what was going on. I'll sub your channel and look forward to part 2!

I heard CCI standard velocity (Sv) is 1050 FPS and is sub sonic technically even though it’s a bit louder. It also cycles the 10/22

Quiet 22 is way quieter than this video's' audio, at 68dBA.

Fire that stuff out of a lever or bolt action rifle. My Remington 512 Sportmaster has a 25 inch barrel and is as quiet as a BB gun.

The ammo strictly states not to fire out of anything over a 24"barrel.

Unless that is a pretty spendy pro meter I doubt that the measurement is very accurate. Gunshots are a really fast rise time and huge dynamic range. Really hard to capture. What might be interesting is to get a high speed audio input device and record to a computer and analyse the resulting wave form.
