How QATAR is DOING BUSINESS thanks to the WAR in UKRAINE - VisualPolitik EN

Check out our new channel, VisualEconomik EN: • How SWITZERLAND ELIMIN...
Rising oil prices are proving to be a boon for oil-producing countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. However, the jackpot may end up going to another small emirate of the Persian Gulf, the same one that stars in the most watched video in the history of VisualPolitik: we are talking, of course, about the small emirate of Qatar.
A country that despite its size has become one of the heavyweights in the export of liquefied natural gas, the gas that is transported in liquid form in large methane tankers and which has become the European Union's only hope of freeing itself from Russian gas and the consequent yoke of Moscow.
But to what extent is Qatar really important in the energy market? How much money does this small emirate make from gas exploitation? Why do we say that it is one of the big "winners" to come out of the Ukrainian war? In this video we tell you all the details.

We used to live in Saudi Arabia for 11 yrs & we visited Qatar many times it’s our second relaxing place behind Bahrain coz the distance is very close & Doha, Qatar is about 4 hrs drive from us. Staying in Qatar is very relaxing we can drink alcohol which is prohibited in Saudi Arabia and eat any kind of foods we want and most of all very safe and Qatari are very nice and friendly people. People who never been to Qatar think Qatar is bad they are absolutely wrong you can walk anywhere in Doha & no one will harm you. It’s a very modern & very clean country and by the way try flying Qatar Airways you will love it the comfort & the service that you can’t find in US airlines😃

The major beneficiaries of the Russia-Ukraine war are Qatar, Australia, Canada, USA and China. Russia was a large producer of Gas, Oil, Coal, Nickel, Gold, Aluminium, Potash (with Belarus), Nitrogen and Phosphate Fertilizers, and Agricultural grains like wheat, corn, sunflower and other commodities, which are largely produced by these other countries as stable substitutes. The other major beneficiary will be Iran, as global pressure will build to allow Iran to sell oil and gas again with the repeal of sanctions and a hostile Iran threatens the strait of Hormuz. Geopolitically, Turkey will also benefit substantially, as it controls the only other transit routes for oil and gas pipelines from the Middle East and Central Asia to Europe and global markets via the Mediterranean.

I would argue Australia gains more. Australia has everythign that is lost by Russian Ukraine invasion... the issue is that it wont see the boost till about December 2022. Why? Because Harvest time for Australian crops is November. Australia produces LNG, Coal ( a substitute for countries needing energy without gas), and a large amount of exportable wheat. Added to this fact, but it is a La nina year, which means Australian farms have recieved lots of rain while competitive countries like the US and South America have recieved less. Australia, however, will not see this growth till the end of the year. So what happens to Ukrainian and Russian resources of gas and wheat could change.

The biggest beneficiary from the Ukraine and Russia war is China. How? China is a manufacturing powerhouse and they import the most energy and commodities to produce these final goods. Russia currently exports most of its exported energy (oil and gas) and commodities for pennies on a dollar to China, then followed by India. China currently is the primary provider for high tech devices (i.e. Huawei) and even semiconductors to Russia. This war has made China less dependent on Middle East for energy, which must be shipped through the Straits of Malacca, a major choking point for imported energy. (China fabricated the 9 dash lines so they can protect their imported energy from the Middle East if a war breaks out.)

Yes true Qatar is the biggest beneficiary of all this but LNG cost much more than the pipeline gaz, add to it storage plants that yet to be built, most of Qatari volumes are locked into long-term contracts mostly to Asian buyers, the amount of divertable volumes that can be shipped to Europe is only 10-15% according to its energy minister. It cannot simply replace supply from Russia. Nord Stream 1 and 2 cannot be simply dismantled, eventually European countries will go back to buy Russian gaz once peace in the region is restored. I would go further to say even Ukrain pipeline will start operating at its normal capacity this will be in the peace talks agenda, those pipelines cannot be left to rust away, Russia has continue to pump gaz to Europe through those pipelines even as the two countries are engaged in war, do you think this will stop when the war ends.

We massively under-utilise the energy we could get from all of our produced byproducts. It must be painful for them to sit on the sidelines watching oil prices skyrocket while being locked out of the hungiest oil markets. To date, Iran is the only oil producing country to share Russia's exclusion from the global markets. I wouldn't expect them to make a deal with the USA after Trump unilaterally tore it up and walked away, but then the USA isn't their most lucrative potential trading partner.
