Why Qatar Was Blockaded By Its Neighbors For 4 Years

Qatar's Gulf neighbors recently embargoed the country from 2017 to 2021, but why? What led to this blockade, and how did Qatar deal with it?

Lived through that, was insane how fast the government transitioned to producing alot of the food they import locally, within a few months we went from Saudi imported food to Iran/Turkey and then local. I even visited the local milk production plant (Baladna) in 2018 and it was pretty big with a zoo and an amusement park lol.

A bit rich for Saudi Arabia and UAE to complain about another country interfering in its' neighbours while they continue to occupy Yemen, well mostly the less populated parts and both supported insurgents in Iraq and Syria.

@@nncho8412 Saudi and Emirati troops currently occupy parts of Yemen, UAE now openly considering annexing Socotra and between them they have blockaded the most populous parts of the country and caused a famine. The Yemeni president had already fled and at the time of the invasion there were no ties between Houthis and Iran, they aren't the same sect. I lived in Qatar for the first half of the blockade. At first, the blockade was pretty crazy. The most obvious difference was that there were now dozens of massive pictures of the Emir on every building in Doha. I heard stories of people who couldn't afford to visit their families funerals in neighboring countries since the flights were now so much more expensive. One of my dads colleagues wasn't able to visit her dying mother who lived in the UAE. At the beginning, Qatar started importing things like milk from Turkey, and for some reason their milk tasted gross, but then Qatar important thousands of cows and got their own milk. After a few months, the blockade had virtually no effect on life within Qatar (for me at least). Overall I would say it was a huge W for Qatar, who learned to be extremely self-sufficient, and despite being such a tiny country, it managed to hold its own against Saudi Arabia.

After almost four years, Saudi Arabia announced on Monday the end of its blockade of neighbouring Qatar, restoring a degree of normalcy to the relationship between the two members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). On Tuesday evening, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced that Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates had also resumed ties with Doha, during the 41st GCC summit, with mediator Kuwait hailing the step as a breakthrough. The move marks a major change in what had been a tense period in the Gulf. Middle East Eye takes a look at the history of the Gulf blockade.

Iran/US want more instability to start taking over the countries, Iran gets stronger while US gets more money from wars in the region, Qatar didnt understand this from start and they were helping them to reach their targets, Qatar started to fire employees for savings like Qatar airways, they lost alot of money meanwhile Saudi want stability in the region, so a deal was held in Riyadh in which Qatar president himself went there..... you guys just look at 2 countries ignoring what happening in the region that without Saudi and its allies will become like Iraq/Syria/Yemen

The gulf has provided Russian billionaires safe haven to store their assets. Hungary has also agreed to trade gas in roubles now. India continues its partnership with Russia while the US is seething to try and make everyone join their little "we hate Russia" club, trying to force countries to produce impossible volumes of oil and gas Meanwhile, USA is starting to lose its allies in the middle east who are now slowly turning to China now. Everyone's fed up with Western duplicity Outside of US and their fuckbuddies in NATO, the whole world knows that this invasion of Ukraine isn't new or unprecedented. Both Russia and USA have been invading and bombing sovereign nations under the guise of liberating them since WW2. nah they didn't, if they won their president wont be going to Riyadh to sign agreement with them, he would have stayed and let them come to him like Qatar asked them to do so...... the reason it was stopped it was for regional stability, Qatar didnt have anymore cards to play, Libya saga ended, Egypt saga ended, Syria had Russia and others in it, Iran already inside Iraq and Yemen is not an interest of Qatar, so it was for their own benefit to bring peace back since they literally lost billions of dollars because of this, they were under pressure for sure hence why they started firing some workers.
