I'm a native Californian who, starting from my very first vote in 1974, fought against the progressive madness but at age 65 saw the writing on the wall that the state would never come back in my lifetime to the greatness I once knew. I didn't want to spend the remainder of my retirement years battling so three years ago I left and haven't regretted it yet.

I noticed that too. That certainly took a lot away from the guy's credibility right there. I am a native Californian, and I can say some of his other points were a bit myopic. But I could let those go. Yet somehow, in his mind, Trump did what experts said couldn't be done like ending endless wars, bringing inflation down, bringing back manufacturing, making us energy independent, and lowering unemployment to points they said could never be done again; yet somehow Trump is the buffoon? That really makes me wonder about these experts, and pundits. Are they the buffoons, or just evil liars?

@tombussio4979 I hold a degree in history from the University of California. My area of emphasis is 1930’s Europe and the Mythology of WW2. The post is absolutely true. The Nazis were progressives. Need proof? Look up letters from leading progressives in the US who absolutely adored Hitler, Mussolini and the Nazis before the outbreak of the war (you can find them online). FDR, Margaret Sanger, and many others in the vanguard of the progressive movement during the 20’s and 30’s spoke glowingly of the Nazis and believed America should be more like Germany. Conversely, it was the Republicans who warned against the Nazis and Communists as threats to free markets and individual rights. These are historical facts. After the war Progressives rewrote history and did everything they could to move Naziism to the political Right. They understood how bad it made them look that they once supported the Fascist movement. Easier to shift blame than it is to admit you’re wrong. However, that narrative never held water. You see, American Conservatism is marked by small government, fewer regulations, and greater individual rights and responsibilities. These are ideas that are anathema to the progressive worldview. Sorry if this all hurts your feelings. All of which I stated can be independently verified, so please feel free to do so. I doubt you will though because that might require you to think for yourself.

In addition, science has NOTHING to do with consensus. Here’s a test on consensus. Zero out all funding for all pro AGW studies and fund non-AGW studies. You’ll get a different “consensus” in 1 year. In addition, what isn’t science is when you label those that have research that does not support “orthodoxy” DENIERS. Other pieces of evidence that this broad field of study has been corrupted are: 1. No funding for non AGW studies. 2. Not being considered for tenured positions. 3. Having your contracts not renewed. 4. Using models that can’t be tested. 5. Changing historic temperature records. 6. Having study summaries not supported by the contents of the research paper.

It was going so well and then, in the final seconds, the Trump Derangement Syndrome comes out.

Like Vladimir Lenin said if he could change the mind of one generation that he would win. We got to watch it in real time during the sixties mostly at UC Berkeley. Decades later I watched as a standing president told the country that he would make “fundamental changes” and that we were no longer a Christian nation. Which sounded strangely familiar because I had read Rules for Radicals back in the early eighties. It doesn’t happen all at once but a little change here and a little change there and over time the country and the rule of law has slowly been undermined while everyone is scratching their heads wondering what (in hell) is going on.

I call the Progressives, Regressives .

California is for young emerging industries. If you dont have some passive investments or paid-off home by old age California can be unaffordable.

It’s exaggerated. Around 1 percent of the population was lost between 2020-2023 (2023 the population actually went up by 65,000. So for 3 years (during a once in a lifetime pandemic) the population went down 400,000 and it’s already back to increasing … this is a non-issue.

And no the US taxpayer does not want to and will not bail these pension systems out. Ford did the right thing in refusing to bail out NYC in the 70s when they went bankrupt. Look at the Detroit situation and the cut to pensions. That is what will happen to many government retirees. Already happening in CA. Talk to former employees of the city of Stockton. And no they are not entitled to SS since they picked government service and the pension route. They did not pay into SS during their service so no they are not "entitled" to SS.

Both Brown Governors were the economic boom of the State of California. The family has stayed middle class to upper middle class, which tells you that they were honest. They are our version of the California Kennedys minus the scandals. My best friend is one of the few remaining Browns who are attorneys. She wants nothing to do with politics and one of the most apolitical people I know. Instead, she wants a quiet life in obscurity focusing on her business career and family. Why do California lovers always rhapsodize about the weather like it's unique? The coastal weather is nice, a classic Mediterranean climate with barely any seasonal change but there are lots of other places like it, the Mediterranean for example, as well as South Australia, South Africa, parts of South America. It ain't that special, plus the weather away from the coast is horrible, much too hot and sunbaked.

All lovely and all...but the decline started under the Republicans. The one party democratic rule since the 1990s is a reflection of dire republican management from the 1960s onwards. Combine that & the freedom of movement you have between the states, and californias problems are largely demographic...no different to Illinois or Michigan, and largely embedded & unavoidable due to policies in the 60s, 70s, 80s.
