How Procreate beginners can color inside lines using reference layer, color drop and clipping mask

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Want to keep the outlines of your drawing crisp and clean? It’s easy to get that great line art you see from cartoonists and anime artists with one easy to use feature… the Reference Layer.
With the Reference Layer setting, you can Color Drop on any layer, yes, any layer, and the color will fill the linework from the Reference Layer. How great is that? Having separate layers lets you adjust color and details with ease. Add a Clipping Mask or Alpha Lock too.
The Reference Layer feature is a wonderful tool for both Procreate beginners and accomplished artists.

@@thedoodleworks thanks so much…I was watching your video on pixels…the sizing and pixel video…canvas size stuff still baffles me a bit…but I’ll get it. It’s doesn’t matter a lot in my line of work, as I just sketch my out costuming work, but I want to understand it more. I do love sketching in procreate and want to make sure I am utilizing as much as procreate offers. Your videos are fun and not intimidating as I have found with some others. Keep up the good work.

I don’t understand how this has anything to do with that hairline gap. My drawing is more of a thick lined sketch I guess. This isn’t working for me, & I can’t figure out why because I cannot understand the cause & effect when it comes to the tiny gap & reference layer & color dropping… Speaking of color, my color won’t even change. I can drag from the pallet, but the color stays the same up top… 😭 Other than my obvious noobish errors holding me back… I really enjoyed watching. Once I get this figured out, I’ll be checking into what other stuff u have out there 😅👍
