Why Poland is Preparing for War to Prevent it

Poland is now preparing for war in the hopes of deterring it from ever happening in the first place. They intend to double their land forces to a staggering 300,000 personnel over the next 5 years. Seeking to stop people from claiming they accidentally invaded Poland. To put this into context once it is completed Poland's military will be larger than the French and German forces combined. Which makes sense because a lot is at stake for them. Polish Prime minister Tusk said quote “We are living in the most critical moment since the end of World War II.
The next two years will decide everything,” He’s referring to how the war in Ukraine waging on their borders turns out and how successful their military modernization ends up being. Poland aims to achieve this gigantic goal by raising their defense spending to 4% of GDP or $133 billion dollars over 5 years; it's the highest percentage in the entire NATO alliance. It’s like their throwing out their old military and replacing it with a brand new one.
Already taken in 1.3 million refugees from ukraine. All of this is why I want to answer, what challenges Poland’s defense modernization effort will face? Which types of unique weapons systems will they need to invest in? which strategies will they deploy on the tactical level?

I have lived and worked in Poland many times; definitely one of my favourite countries. I made friends with many there, and it was interesting talking about their history. They were saying that the Poles are a proud people, but that comes at a price. A joke one of them told me was that a Pole was praying and asked God “Why did you make such a beautiful place, with rivers, lakes and fertile farmland just for us?” And God answered “Wait until you meet your neighbours.” Their history is a rather sad one, at one point their nation was split up three ways between the Prussians, Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires for centuries. Reborn out of the ashes of the First World War only to be invaded by the Soviet Union within weeks of the guns going silent on the Western Front. They repelled the Soviet aggression in 1920 and enjoyed a 19 year period of uneasy peace. 1939 brought the two front war between the Nazis and the Soviet Union, occupation, Operation Barbarossa, Soviet occupation and Communist rule until 1989. I think they have a right to be a little uneasy. It’s a beautiful country in a bad neighbourhood. I can fully understand their defence spending.

Thank you very much for your open-mindedness and your willingness to learn about our history, but also to understand us Poles. Unfortunately, as a nation, we have been through a lot and that is why we can be quite reserved towards strangers at first (the younger generation has not experienced terrible things and are much more open) and stubborn, sometimes too stubborn. We know that but it's the result of all those wars and occupation by Germans and/or Russian orcs.

Now you can see the dumbness in our current ruling and "intellectual" class. First one signed "green deal" wich will kill our economy. Second one is defending hybrid attack on our borders (even made a movie full of lies about it) 😢

10,000+ DEAD Poland's cemeteries are filling fast with soldiers disguised as Mercs in Ukraine every Pole knows about it and most have made it clear they will not follow their insane US owned leaders to war. Pretending Poland can run with the big dog is comical like the rest of Europe everything was handed to UKRAINE MONTHS AWAY FROM TOTAL SURRENDER. KHARKIV just exposed the millions handed over to build defences has all vanished through fake companies created using the names of Ukrainian citizens who have no idea their name was used. Poor Forest still being fed the CIA handouts. Latest Russia has now taken 20 villages around KHARKIV without much of a fight the UkroNazis have fled troops left are surrendering. ZZelinsky admits reserves are all but used up. And most of the 61 billion promised stays in Israelistan to re stock US weapons all worthless 40+ year old designs noted for their battlefield failures.

As a Brit I am in pure envy of Poland, For some reason the UK will not invest in already exising systems used by the US and South Korea ect. and for some reason continues to develop their own while taking the old equipment out of service leaving a hole and then replacing it with less of but better newer equipment they are also making tiny cuts to save pennies on the pound which is just shrinking everything down and these cuts mean retention of those in service is awful and the military personell has almost halved in 10 years. It's in dissaray and they need to decide wether to shrink properly, specialise and be elite in specific areas to assist allies extremely effectivley (this relies on NATO) or to increase funding and become a heavy fighting power (Less reliant on NATO) and it needs to make a decision quickly. I think Poland is awesome :).

That's why we have to be ready, what I fear is the same situation as in Ukraine, Ukraine had a chance to end this war a year ago but the US said NO - you must not attack Russia. One key takeaway is that Germany cannot be relied upon to be a key weapons supplier to the EU, they have too many restrictions on sale and resale and their production capacity is limited whereas Poland can start offering essentially the gen 4.5 (in aircraft terms) tanks and IFV's without these political shenanigans as a way to recoup costs and keep their skills and industrial base alive without solely relying on domestic orders. They also provide a cost effective alternative to the USA who for many systems has extremely long lead times or the systems they offer are near end of life and are due to be replaced by in development alternatives.

Many of those motivated Poles became older, muiltilingual, financially secure, globally Networked and returned home, where in my head they can meet up in golf clubs and at school reunions. Poland is aware that it is surrounded by treachery and needs to be able to defend against multiple attacks on multiple fronts and also must do offense. Remember that Poland never surrendered during WW II. While the army was defending against the Blitzkrieg, Russia invaded. The Polish army went to Africa and attacked the Axis there, then fought their way up Italy. The Polish air forces defended Dunkirk and the UK. It was evil for the US and UK to award Poland to the USSR as a prize for having started the war by invading Poland

Sir,may I have the honour to respond? Churchill only had one demand for Stalin, and that was for free elections in Poland after the war. Stalin always said “yes” until the red army occupied Poland and he then installed his own government. We weren’t helped by the USA because Roosevelt thought keeping Stalin happy was more important than Polands liberty. Roosevelt was desperate for Stalin to join the war against Japan, but that is no excuse. We British were horrified by Polands fate as we had fought side by side with Poles since the start of the war. The best fighter pilots in the RAF were the two Polish squadrons, we remember the Polish victory at Monte Cassino, the destruction of the Germans at the Falaise Pocket and General Sosabowskis paratroopers rescuing our paratroopers at Arnhem. My country owes Poland a debt of honour that is too big to ever be repaid, but I believe we will stand with Poland forever. God bless Poland from 🇬🇧

In ww2 no nation fought harder than Poland, and no nation got less out of the war. Many Poles fought with the British army and earned an😊unequalled reputation for courage and competence. The best squadrons in fighter command during the Battle of Britain were Polish. A army saying was that every division needs good intelligence officers, and the best were Polish. If you had one Polish intelligence officer in your division, that’s all you needed. Any NATO unit would be happy to fight alongside the Poles.

They gain their independence, stop the communists from spreading to the rest of europe and conquering Poland in 1921. 19 years later WW2 breaks out. In those 19 years they had to rebuild their country and prepare for a war meanwhile their neighbors have an easy 100 year head start in terms of factories and industry. In those 27 days they fought the Germans in the West, South and North. 15 days after the Nazis invaded, the Russians said HELLO from the east. Molotov ribbentrop pact, cha ching. Poles fight in practically every major European battle in the western front afterwards, conquer monte cassino, and in return they arent allowed to march in the victory day parade. Poland may have challenges in meeting its current objectives for defense and the social sector, but it’s at least got the right attitude. Much more confident in Poland doing what’s necessary than Germany, for example. Also, Poland doesn’t have to go it alone outside of the defense sector. Much of its planning will require a large, highly trained workforce. People everywhere are looking for good, well-paying jobs, and I’m sure many would be willing to fill in any gaps in that area where available. Great video, look forward to the next!
