To everyone telling me I missed the new overall game ending on Reed’s path, I didn’t. I just don’t have too much to say about it and this video is long enough. There was only one thing I wanted to say about it but I want to keep that for a potential SIGNALIS video. You’ll see.

I very very VERY much dislike that ending, as it leans far to heavily on the bitter side of bittersweet, and honestly assassinates the character integrity of Panam and Kerry. But, the DLC did manage to solidify Don't Fear the Reaper + Temperance as my favorite ending, as the "save songbird" ending of phantom liberty resonated with me the strongest. Fighting as hard as you can just to realize that *you* cant get the good ending, but your friend can really speaks to me. Selfless V is my favorite character arc she can have.

@@MrAceofspades627it's a perfect ending thematically though, similar to siding with the corpo path. You side with the nation state, turn good citizen, you get to live a clean, happy, boring, NPC life. Reed, like you, fit imperfectly with it, so much like a soldier returning from war battling PTSD. Committing atrocities for the naive belief in a nation (or even for personal gain, like college tuition or a fix for a brain virus) is never worth it, almost always a lie told to you to make you easily exploitable. For me it fit so well with the soul of the series and the cyberpunk genre in general - the cynical reality of individuals existing like lab rats under the control of powerful institutions, incapable of fighting for themselves in any meaningful way even when they see and know others are out there struggling to make the world a better place (here, Songbird - in real life, things like Extinction Rebellion and Resource Generation). Whether or not you choose NPC behavior in real life outside of the power fantasy of a game is always a conscious, ethical decision you're making every day. And the game, in a kind of meta-commentary, reflects that dichotomy perfectly with the final shot of V fading into the crowd, a nobody, really, no legend of Night City, a cog in the machine of the military industrial complex and corpo-capitalists, just some quantifiable pool of exploitable labor much like Vic.

There is something so utterly demonic and evil and foreboding about the Blackwall and what it holds back. Phantom Liberty makes you really feel that darkness hidden just behind the neon and chrome that is always there, pushing, prodding and scraping against the boundaries. Bartmoss ruined the old Net with his Rabbits but hackers like Songbird and the Voodoo Boys may actually destroy the world. I adore the expansion and share your enthusiasm for this grandiose glow-up story of a game. I hope they learned all they can from this lesson and the sequel is presented only when it is actually ready.

It should also be mentioned that Songbird's also dealing with more than just the Blackwall and how she's in contact with more than one faction. In fact directly after the sequences of 1:11:30 and the two board the train? There's a certain sketchy blue eyed mister overlooking the devastation in a blink and you miss it sort of thing. I'd highly suggest checking it out the next time you're there. I believe they were also right before the elevator descent as well looking through the glass.

I also think the ability to relate to tragic characters shows just how much of a cut gem of a human you are. Please remember that. That you're not damaged or broken. Because even the worst of your life experiences can refine you into a better self. One who reflects the light shone onto them and make it all the more brilliant. Gotta disagree on the 'Moon ending.' It made me feel hopeful, that at least V helped another person in his/her position go be free. I was always suspicious of Reed's blind faith in his ideals and his bosses, and knew Song would never get a chance to be free/be herself if you betrayed her. I knew from the start Song's cure would only be one time use - it makes sense in a narrative way. But I still chose that ending and was glad I did. Also, Alex survives and resigns, goes free. The parallels with Cyberpunk Edgerunners and Lucy/David with V/Songbird really help. Get your girl to the moon!! But I really appreciate the horror playthrough of Cynosure. It got stale for me though, because there is really only one way to play through it. What I really love about it is the flashbacks in cyberspace. Tragic ending of killing So-mi may fit Cyberpunk better, but I'll take the hopeful ending.

I loved that ending. Best ending of the game. Previously I thought the devil ending was the best thematic ending. I really love the idea that the punk can get out without "selling out" or dying. Sometimes it feels like those are the only two choices. To be a punk oftentimes feels like signing a contract saying you'll die early or become a villain. V's escape from their life reminded me of a real person (perhaps it's poor taste to compare fiction to real life, but alas), Pat the Bunny. An anarchist folk-punk musician who got sober by going to rehab, stopped getting in legal trouble by cutting out his closest friends, wrote one final self-reflective album, and then retired from the punk scene. He got a standard job in a standard town and is happy. "since we'll all return to dirt, let's bring some stories for the worms"

It's funny, in a way. There's such a thing as passive suicidal ideation. It doesn't suck per-se, but it also acts like somewhat of a plug and (in my case) was a symptom of different problems. But the human brain is hella weird, and the things that just make stuff click and lead to realizations are random in their nature and occurence. Hell, for me I was in the middle of disappointing Jesus when the thought occurred that "dying's kinda like all the games you are looking forward too, as well as future ones you'll like and won't even know being cancelled" and that kinda...made the concept click for me. I never really desired it as much, I don't fear it, still, but back then I was kinda just wanting to avoid this vague idea of "it'll make the people who like you pretty sad". And while that's good and all, living needs a selfish drive. Something that centers on YOU. Because otherwise you, like you said, just go through the motions of life , mainly for the sake of others. Is it goofy? Well yeah. But then life's about fun isn't it? And I think embracing just the bizarre silliness that can happen and swerve grim things around is good. I know at least one person who felt more comfortable about her PTSD after I shared what prompted me to have my only PTSD attack in my life. And make no mistake, it IS goofy.

The game with Keanu Reeves and all the bugs?" Even before 2.0, on Xbox One nonetheless, I still loved the story. Especially with how relatable the environment is in comparison to the real world with everything being owned by a mega corp, corrupt politicians, police, etc. Don't even get me started on the music, because I listen to the soundtrack on the daily. But for me, 2.0 made a great game even better. I haven't played Phantom Liberty yet, but I'm looking forward to getting it soon. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for giving this game the recognition it deserves, choom.

It was so touching and emotional to me, hearing your own story in parallel to So-Mi. I lived through my own very dark time and came very close to pulling the eject lever. All I can offer you is a big virtual hug in support and thank you for still being with us. 🫂 So-Mi's suicide ending hit me very hard. In the end, I just wanted to hold her and give her a kiss to remind her of her humanity, before honoring her wish. It was an incredibly well written story. I think Cyberpunk 2077 will yet be remembered as one of the greatest games ever made. It has left me truly thinking about life.... and what it means to me.

It wasn't until a while ago, after (mostly) having an epiphany that helped me get over passive suicidal ideation that I understood why this "you are loved" thing is so prevalent in media relating to suicide. Because it's not a cure, yes, but it's that lifeline that keeps you trudging along until you find yourself one day arriving at a conclusion that just moves you past. That one thought that slowly lets you rebuild your drive to keep existing. And that's the best you can do when you don't know what to do. Like the boondocks said: "What do you do when you can't do nothing, and there's nothing you can do? You do what you can".

  • @Langtw

@chukyuniqul Same here. I've gone through passive suicidal ideation for most of my life. Not planning necessarily, but always looking at it as the exit door. I didn't expect that ending to hit the way that it did. The realization that by taking that action, you have measurably increased the amount of pain and suffering in the world really affected me, ESPECIALLY seeing how Judy reacted, because of how suicide affects her storyline.

With the whole Blackwall, it's always puzzled me if what Somi contacted was the Blackwall itself, or a rogue AI on the other side who used her as a breech into our world in a faustian bargain whenever Meyers ordered it. Either way, I loved that they dove into the AI with the expansion, they were one of my favorite things about the setting. How they were so alien and powerful, like new kinds of gods which were one of the few things that could stand up ro corps. How there would be good, bad, and neutral ones... and yet all of them were something to be feared. I hope the next game goes into this further. Maybe the blackwall falls and the next corporate war begins. Either could result in some real shaking up of the world.

The music also hits hard in moments. I love the music. Its hard for me not to see a parallel between V fighting to live and my own life struggles. I struggled with chronic migraines and can't count the days I lost due to them, also struggle with mental issues and thoughts of ending it. I love finding any medium that both show the struggle and shows its worth fighting for. I could say I've been struggling for forty years but I much prefer to tell people I have fought for forty years! As someone who has struggled with suicide and depression, seeing the suicide ending part in this video legit brought me to tears because it just hits so different now than it did years ago. V might be the video game character that I can most relate too, and this game just hits different years later. Truly one of the best videogames of all-time, especially now. Edit: Finally beat Phantom Liberty after 9 months and did the King of Wands. Glad to see I got the best ending because I didn't feel like handing songbird over to continue to be a slave for the NUSA and the star ending to me will always be canon to me, so this ending doesn't upset that. That being said, I wanted to be the one to flatline Hansen. Also, shoutout to dev team adding a way to get missed iconic weapons. Still depressed and suicidal. Another thing, to me Stella was awkward/ the voice acting felt off, just sayin'. Lastly, my fem V may be down bad for River and Judy, she also looks forward to the day Aguilar finds her and they "meet".
