What always strikes me the most about Peter was his unparalleled honesty and humility. There was no "image" he wanted to project. I cannot think of one other musician in his position who is able to talk about his mistakes, insecurities, regrets and personal challenges. I believe that the Peter we see in interviews and on stage was likely the exact same person you'd find if you'd met him in a bar or on the street. No pretense, no persona, just Peter. And that is what I will always love most about him.

@@PossessedByMetal666 Yes! Even though he liked to mess with interviewers to test their senses of humor, I've never seen one where he was acting like a dick or being arrogant or rude. Never. When you did this interview, he was at the height of his good health, is that right? Were you surprised later on to learn that he'd gone the other way and fallen into the drug and alcohol lifestyle? Just curious. :)

Yes, this was 1996. I found out much later the way Pete had gone, and it was a shock. Very sad indeed. I can't watch those later interviews where he seems like a very different person.

@@PossessedByMetal666 Yes I agree that there are a number of them out there I don't watch. Although his last interviews, when he was well again, are very beautiful and bittersweet because he'd gotten his life back. In the end, he triumphed. I don't think there's any better way to leave this world than when you're on top of it. And he certainly was.

What stands out to me in this interview is the level of trust and comfort Peter Steele seems to have with you. In many interviews he’s just not having it (which, fair enough!) but in this one he seems connected, engaged, and open. For a guy who could be a bit of a chameleon with the press, this is a rare moment.

Klassik words with the Steele Man! Regarding Type O', I like October Rust, especially "Wolf Moon". And Ive another quote for ya from an old issue of Kerrang, from Pete. I remember in the "My Record Collection" page, inwhich a musician was asked what albums they first bought, etc, Pete was asked what album he'd loved to have sung on. When he answered Alanis Morrisette, he followed up with "Id like to hear how she sounds when Im making love to Her..". I remember laughing with my friend at that- and agreeing with his words aswell.😂😂😂

A cool listen Mr Arnopp (I remember that name! :D) It's cool hearing him saying what I always suspected at the time, the lyrics were mostly tongue in cheek. It was easy to rebel against all the Satanic panic, Christian right-wing America shit at the time (80s). Unfortunately, I never got to see Type O Negative live but I did have the fortune to meet them in 1997 at a signing session in Glasgow. I let them scribble their names all over my October Rust booklet. Also told him I'd seen him on an episode of Rikki Lake which he sort of tried to dismiss with a sort of "dont remind me" facial expression ha! :)
