How People Pleasing Will Hurt You And Your Marriage and stop your ministry

Are you a people pleaser?
People pleasing is a very common issue in many peoples lives including ours. Maybe we do it because we are insecure, or fearful of what others might think of us. Maybe we try and please people for selfish reasons, whatever the reason we do it we must realize that it is damaging and will hinder you from being able to truly minister to those in your life.
in today's episode, we discuss the 3 reasons we believe people might be tempted to become people pleasers and where it comes from and how it can hurt our marriages and how it hurts our ministries.

thank you for sharing this video this is exactly the same situation we've going through..i think this is what my husband is doing.and it really affect so much in our marriage..we've almost lost our ministry in the church and separated with each other.we don't really know or i do not really understand it when my husband gives up his family for this person or persons until i watch this video.i pray that someday his eyes and understanding is willing to listen to this truth that many is blinded for it and they see they are pleasing God but not really.for it is pleasing men

This is the story of my life. I just wish God would fix it for me 😜. I know I have to take courage and do the work to change. Im constantly giving my time to others and I don't want to. I also care way too much about what others think. I am grateful for your transparency!

This is a great topic to address, as many deal with this. one is our audience, GOD! But i too have dealt with this, God is continually healing me from desiring affirmation from others due to rejection in my past, and transforming me to be more dependent on God only, and care only about how God feels about me , and What God thinks about me, but I do believe there is a level of caring about what people think in ministry as a saint/child of God, because we are to be examples to others that they may be saved by example,..our behavior and how we act to others in ministry is crucial. for example the scripture 1 co 8:13 KJV Shows us that our actions and what people think of us can effect the salvation of others, so caring what people think isn’t the problem, but seeking your identity from what others think, is. But I also agree that it can be an issue as there shall be a time when we shall be FORCED to do certain things that God says not to do like in revelation 14:9-10 KJV ,in a time as crucial as described in this verse ..seeking to please people can mean your SOUL! What are your thoughts on this ?

I like that she was honest about her opportunities and shared her experiences. It would be even better to see if he equally shared his opportunities with her. Their are husbands out here that struggle with a lot of things like pornography, lust, marriage and relationships. Hearing as a couple makes a couple even stronger. Makes the male listeners reflect on their chains that needs to be broken hence why we are here watching. To see couples share together.

I do struggle as a people pleaser. It feels like I am always trying to make everyone around me happy. I try to do everything I can to make others see me as one who has it all together. I also seem to always be trying to have others see me as a great Christian woman who doesn't struggle in my faith at all.

You both are really down to earth and relatable. I am very blessed by your ministry and I probably wouldn't be as drawn to it if you presented yourself as if you were perfect. I appreciate your authenticity! Continue to do this amazing work for the Lord. Christians and non-Christians alike have much to learn from you. Be blessed!

My motivation to dust the house often comes from hosting people over at our house, so instead of worry about others I've turned it into a motivation to do the job that's needed anyway. Housekeeping is so redundant that I personally need the motivation. I want our guest to feel comfortable in a clean environment and I want to relax and enjoy my company so in those times when the dusting or vacuuming isn't done I find I just relax and enjoy the most important part, our guest! House cleaning will get done, but later. If my house is always perfect and it's not (there's always a to do list) it also helps those who come know we are far from perfect so they can relax as well. Often I tell or guest (our Life Group) they are the Genny pigs for this meal. Most of the time it's great but there has been the flops and I just apologize and in my mind tweak the recipe. Just letting it go for the moment and enjoy the Bible Study and the guest is so important. ALWAYS PRIORITIZING WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT IN GOD'S SIGHT! I also want to say that my husband likes the house to be nice and he will get the vacuum out and tidy if needed. This is so much a blessing to me because I just can't always keep up!

I thought I was doing well, not people pleasing ...but then a situation came up that challenged me again. It was perhaps a test? Chosing what God wants over people can be so hard. Maybe I over estimate my ability to be helpful. I went to Celebrate Recovery for this issue. Jennifer, as far as the hurting woman who made remarks about your gorgeous self, we have to remember that sometimes others are envious or feeling rotten about themselves as so they try to find ways to pull others down. I am sure you know that, but it's the sad part of putting ourselves out there, that we become a target. Especially if they know you have a weakness in this area. It's really a type of demonic attack. (Not to be too dramatic.) I know you have your spiritual armour on, and an amazing covering, but just know, you are quite lovely as is. The enemy of God really hates women who are modest, lovely and Holy, and might use some person to try to wound us. You are a great example of a Godly woman. Thank- you!

Would it be unreasonable to have told the people at the gym you would verify the schedule at home for that day with your wife and then get back with them? I think that shows your wife honor and shows the friends involved how much you honor your marriage.

So I have a question. My girlfriend and I, we prayed and had our relationship confirmed by the Lord but we've faced so much opposition especially from her mom early in the relationship, due to all of our faults, and she doesn't want anything to do with our relationship/marriage. Of course I want to ask for my girlfriends hand in marriage, but I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to disrespect her mother. If you could give me advice I'd truly appreciate it and God bless you!

Anthony Kizza my husband and i had the same issue i could'nt be strait forward to his sister that was denying she rejoyce in the Lord in her life once... I just shutup. Im so sad to be a pleasing compulsive person. I allways though that i could gain sometimes ground for later to correct in a less stressful moment as a discussion, but i guess that i should at least sayd my husband was right in his point.
