Paper wasps have the remarkable ability to choose if a larva grows up to be a worker or a ‘gyne’-a primary reproductive female. They do this by drumming on the walls of the cell where the larva is incubating.

Had I still been living in New England in MA, I would say that I would never visit New Zealand ever because of those. I've been living in the desert in AZ for a yr & a half. Bring it on! I've seen bigger & badder.
They were building a nest under my storage shed and I immediately sealed the entrance with silicone

When I see wasps, I get a can of wasp killer and get rid of them immediately!

They eat many garden pests like caterpillars so you are mostly hurting yourself and the environment.
