hahahha sometimes i wonder if guys like you that comment even watch euroleague.Grant is a very good player with good defense like walkup is walkup a star player? no he is the best in olympiacos though in my opinion.Grigonis and mitroglou were already on the rise before ataman.And when i say he relies on star players its true but you missed the point.If you see how panathinaikos handles the offense you would realise but you cant you cant understand what you see and you cant be objective you see what you Want to see.He relies on star players and thats a fact you can try and find every statistic there is that confirms just that.Nun puts 20 points every game its a given if he didnt they would struggle he puts buckets effortlessly and ataman relies on his plays.If nun gets isolated like he has against olympiacos with walkup and the whole team playing hard defense he makes a bunch of mistakes.He still may score 20 points but with more attacks so thats a minus and thats why they havent won against olympiacos.

@@aedr10001 Grant has 270 nba games on his back, Grigonis is has been an elite shooter for some years now... Ataman is a great GM, personality manager and overall a great nba coach who deserves respect. But he is nowhere near an elite european basketball coach. He fails to develop and get something off even great high paid players (Juancho, Vildoza) who happen not to be breathtaking in iso game. Not to mention constant Euroleague starters like Papapetrou and prospects like Moraitis or Mantzoukas. Even Grant is constantly reliable in his iso possessions (and extremely tough shots too...) and Mitoglou plays some simple pick and pop actions (except for his own isos) that seem so easy because of his extraordinary 3pt percentage. They bought a euroleague legend, the best active NBAer to come to Europe for years, an all-Euroleague first team center, as well as the Eurobasket final MVP plus Zvezda's franchise player to sweep the bench... all of that in a couple months. Ataman deserves credits for their probable success but come on this roster is elite-they are the ones to be praised.

Ι could name a few teams, more expensive than PAO. Besides Real and Barca, Armani and Monaco's budgets currently are definitely higher. Maccabi and Fener are close if not slightly lower than PAO in those terms. Partizan and Oly are lower but just 3-4 mil behind and by no means, financially weak. So how do we attribute PAO's success this year solely to their budget? Why are we acting as if 20mil is something we have never seen in the League? It might be a record for PAO, but they didn't break the game. Real, Barca, CSKA, Fener have been inflating the League this past decade and a hald with their wages. Don't make it sound otherwise. We get it, you don't like PAO, but it's ok. The one responsible for the greens' success in coach Ataman and none other.

Bo you go opposite way. The money that President paid is huge for Greek standards of last decade and even like this they got some players quite cheaply. The whole organisation is the reason to convince players to come and then also the coach and the players. All together as team effort rhey did great work. And one other reason even before above is the changing rights of PAO on the arena which made the financials safer.

let me remind you. Anadolu Efes finished last in the league in the 2018 season. Ergin Ataman eliminated the $ 40 million Fenerbahçe Beko in the semi-finals with a budget of $ 20 million in her first season in 2019. We the basketball fans of Panathinaikos and basketball generally we salute the team of Olympiakos. Altough coach Bartzokas is a bit challenging sometimes but ok we respect Olympiakos.

Imagine believing that a team with 2x Champion Ataman, 10x F4 appearance Sloukas, Lessort the 2nd best center after Tavares, Grant Eurocup MVP with amazing defense, Grigonis, Mitoglou, Juancho etc. (without considering Nunn) would not finish at least 8TH. You guys are funny.

1.Lessort was never considered one of the best center BEFORE he played for OBRADOVITS,so he had to prove that he wasn’t so good just because of him 2.Grant as you said came from eurocup and even the MVP very few times can survive in euroleague 3.grigonis was in doubt because of his disappointing last season 4.mitoglou leaves just as a young talented player from Panathinaikos,and he returns without having played really basketball for 2 and a half years. 5.juancho is the definition of how far you can go with ONLY ONE spectacular game,a movie(with Adam sandler)and a good name

Money definitely helped, but honestly the name Armani Milano is a counterargument to it by itself. PAO has a huge legacy, a very strong fan base and a history of making solid choices when it comes to winning championships. In basketball we are used to be the "Real Madrid of Greece". These things do not win you championships of course, but it has to be noted the past years were a bad, not-normal period and the president who is peculiar to say the least had a lot to do with it. This year he has been making good decisions, financially and non-financially. The budget is a bit weird discussion. Juancho hasn't yet paid off, Sloukas is admittedly getting more than he deserves BUT his arrival signaled everyone that this year Pana is serious about it. What really made PAO this good is solid decisions accompanied with the aforementioned factors. Why Pana recovered when we started awful? Because in Armani nobody would bat an eye but here every single person from the fan to the president make sure to pass the message of who we want to be. The incentive to succeed is huge, more than your average run-of-the-mill club that simply pays money. Its a combination of many many factors, but as in every other case the credit has to go to the ones making the decisions. The president, the coach and the staff.

Saras's teams always were more expensive than Ataman's, even this year, you know nothing if you say " money " to explain success of a team like Grant( eurocup last year) , Mitoglu( not playin 2 years) Antetekoumpo( had a 1 munit last year) Nunn( not playing las 2 years)

Money? What kind of no-argument is that? Every great coach in sports with no salary cap relies on money to succeed. There is a reason teams like Barcelona, Real, Fener etc always compete for the top spots...

Pao is in the mids on offense but has the 2nd best defense in the league. I hope you know defense is never a result of money, it needs work.And defense is clearly the reason of 2nd place in the the standings.

1991/92 Partizan won Euroleague as the first champion in new format (after cup of champions format had been replaced). There were no foreign players in the roster, they played only one game in front of the home crowd (because of political embargo towards Yugoslavia, Partizan played as a host in Fuenlabrada, Spain) and average players age was 21,7 years. Apart from that, Partizan easily beat Virtus (in two games) in QF and Olimpia Milan in SF. Both teams had at least 10 times higher budget. In the finals, Djordjevic scored three-pointer in final seconds for the win, but gues what... coach of that team was Obradovic and it was his first season as a coach. His mentor was prof. Nikolic who was the mastermind behind this success, but every game was perfectly planned by the greatest basketball coach that ever lived - Zeljko Obradovic. So... think twice before you say always. Knowledge and passion can sometimes beat the cash and that's the magic we never stopped believing in.

Funny thing is Pao isnt as expensive as you think. There are players who get a lot and but are lower on rotation like vildoza, juancho. But the core 6 players of the success dont have money in common. Grant,Grigonis,Mitoglou salary is nothing big, so we left with Lessort 1,5m,i can name a dozen centers that get more in the league, Papagiannis 3rd center of Fener is payed more. The other 2 are Nunn, all top teams have a 2mil american scorer and the local player star Sloukas. Thats all.

Pana spent same amount money also last q0 years but only Ataman got the success and I m sure if obradovic directed that team u guys didn’t t talk about money or budget

100% bullshits and of course its not only the money!!! Panathinaikos is traditionally one of the 5 biggest teams in Europe. This team has millions of supporters in Greece and around the europe too and comes from a country which have a big tradition fantastic greek players and has the most of them. Lets see which are these 7 players. Gerian Grant 750.000€, Mitoglou 800.000€, Marius Grigonis 1.200.000€, Sloukas 2.700.000€, Mathias Lessort 1.800.000€ and his back up Anentokoupmo 500.000€, last player Kendrick Nan 2.000.000€ Total amount is less than 10.000.000€ from an overall budget of +23 millions. Players such as Vildoza, Hernangomez, Balcerowski, Papapetrou, Kyle Guy (that already left team) and others are not even taking more than 2 minutes or have lost due injuries more than 10 matches till now. So it is totaly easy to understand even a small child that the second ranking posistion it is not based to money but to other important things.

PAO budget for 2023/24 was 35.000.000€ before Nunn came (additional 1,5m). Armani is close to 30.000.000€ (before Napier came back), Monaco 27.500.000€ and Partizan close to 20.000.000€. Actually, in 2023/24 Euroleague, only Real has higher budget than PAO. Partizan iz among 4 clubs with lowest budget.

It's not just K.Nunn.Ataman is the coach of the eyar and also don't forget, that Basketball is a team sport. Kudos also go to DPG the "president" of Panathinaikos, the man who knows, the recipe of creating THE best team in Europe, since his father Paulos and ugnle Thanasis, had Panathinaikos No1 team in Europe, for so many years.. Many teams, and many examples, were teams pushed tons of money, to create the best team, however, results prove, that it takes way more than money, to acomplish that!
