How painful will my Labor be? The 7 factors that determine how painful Labor is going to be

Worried about labor pain? Maybe it will not be as painful as you think it will be! In fact, there are certain factors that determine the level of labor pain. And not all women are exposed to those factors.
So, in this video, Nathalie Kaufmann, Pregnancy and Birth Consultant and TCM Therapist, and Mathias Ritter, Researcher and Science Geek, talk about labor pain and how painful your own labor pain will be based on your pregnancy case.
First, they explain what labor pain feels like to most women according to a survey. And they also give answer to the question, if labor pain is really that bad according to that survey.
Next, they go through a list of 7 factors that determine how painful your labor is going to be.
To be precise, they explain how factors related to your baby and body affect the level of labor pain.
Moreover, they discuss how medical inductions can make things worse in terms of labor pain.
And finally, they give some tips on how to manage labor pain.

    Just had my 4th, it was my second homebirth. Dont be anxious! The "pain" is just your uterus contracting, it feels like a really intense menstrual cramp. But as soon as your baby is out, you forget the pain. You were built for this - the more relaxed you are, the easier the labor.

    With my first baby the labor was so horrible, that pain of membrane sweep and the contractions which remain for 4 days... OMG I was ended up induced at 41 week by vaginal tablet. After induction the nightmare worsen and I almost got fainted between the contractions... That was so painful I can never forget that pain. My second labor were not induced they were augmented.. the pain was very much bearable, I was all conscious and the active labor was only 1 hour. Expecting my third baby week 38. This time I want unmedicated labor, following your channel since 22 week..

    Hi there 😘, thanks so much for sharing this with us! 😊 Unfortunately, the contractions after an induction tend to be more painful because - in very simple words - the body doesn't know it is in labor. Therefore, it does not support you with its own pain management system... So, it is no surprise that you prefer an unmedicated labor.... Please don't worry too much! We are sure everything will be fine this time! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your little ones!! ❤️

    hello, I have a question about breathing (I have seen your breathing techniques video). When in labor during my first child, I was 'demanded' to use the short breathing technique (the one you take a breath and then make a huff three times). My question is, when the nurses angrily ask from you to keep the breathing as they instructed, how should I handle them? Honestly, those nurses were a huge stressing agent and I still believe that they made my experience really bad from that aspect (the stress aspect).

  • @CareAboutLittleOnes

    @CareAboutLittleOnes

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi there Alexia 😊, it depends on WHEN during your labor they made that recommendation. You see, the breathing techniques we talk about in our webinar, are best for the dilation phase. Yes, for the pushing phase, we do something similar HOWEVER: at the END of the pushing phase (the moment when your baby crowns), it is indeed better to apply short breathing techniques (or rather: a panting-like technique). Because this can help you prevent that your baby moves through your vagina like a race car and thus make tearing very likely. At that stage, it's all about a CONTROLLED delivery of the baby's head. And in that phase, it is actually vital that your delivery nurse or midwife guides you! However, if they already demanded from you to breathe that way during the dilation phase, then it's a different story. In our opinion, a woman should be able to choose the breathing techniques she is most comfortable with. If you don't feel comfortable applying the techniques they propose, then by all means, it is your right to do something else. When it comes to labor, only YOU make the decisions and nobody else! We hope this helps! 😊 We wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby!! ❤️

I managed to give birth last month at 42 weeks with induction to a 4,2kgs baby 😅 so big and I had an episiotomy. Now I'm having a challenge with my hip and knees that are painful. Please advise on how to relieve the pain.

    Hi there Patie 😊, first of all: CONGRATULATIONS on your baby boy from the 2 of us!!! 🥳🥳🥳 Also, great job on your side when it comes to turning your baby!! 😊 It's one thing when we do it at the clinic (since we have done this many times). It's a different story if you do it yourself only based on a video! Therefore, we are particularly grateful for your feedback! 😘 Regarding your question: We are almost tempted to say that "it is normal" that your hips hurt after giving birth to a 4.2kg baby... 😊 Not necessarily the knees though. But then again, it very much depends on the kind of birth positions you chose, the mode of delivery and other factors... Unfortunately though, there is no general solution (such as certain exercises) which can help here. In cases like yours, it is important that you go to a doctor and tell them about your pain so that they can refer you to the right practitioner. In other words, they have to think about a solution based on your individual case... So, we are sorry that we cannot be a better help here! But for some problems, there is just no general solution... In any case, we wish you ALL THE BEST for you and your baby and a great recovery!! ❤️

  • @CareAboutLittleOnes

    @CareAboutLittleOnes

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi there 😊, "necessary" is a strong word. The problem is that many many doctors do episiotomies as a "precautionary measures" - as they say - to prevent tearing. The reality is though that if you properly prepare your perineum before you go into labor and if you and your midwife know what to do during the pushing phase, then there is normally no need to be worried about tearing, except when your baby is extraordinarily big of course... So.... 😊

    Hi there 😘, we are sorry to hear that you don't have the support of any doctors. Are there medical reasons why they propose a C-section again? If not, why would they deny you a VBAC? We are not familiar with the Indian system. Can a doctor really tell you they don't support it? Is there not a "duty" of the doctor to try whatever YOU decide? If so, there is really nothing else you can do than trying to find a doctor who supports it. We do know that such doctors exist in India, because many women report about successful VBAC deliveries in India... So, we are afraid, that's the only thing you can do... It could also simply be baby's position or - if you feel it mostly when you get up from bed or into a car and similar situations - then it could also be SPD. It's even hard for a doctor to determine where it is coming from.
