Just used packing cubes for the first time over a three month period. My wife thought it was a waste of money. So I divided my warm and cold weather clothes, the cold went into the compression cubes. It was easy to locate clothes for daily usage, often it was not necessary to open my checked bag. Great trip and will always be using cubes in the future. PS...My wife wants a set now.

I'm too cheap to pay for compression packing cubes so I get 2-gallon zip lock bags. Roll my clothes and then press out all the air. Works just as well and great for dirty or wet clothes

@@yaowsers77 I have done this too. The one problem I ran into was the slipperiness of the bags, which was annoying as they wouldn’t stay put when on the bed/table & would slide onto the floor. 😅

Bought different colored packing cubes for each person in my daughter's family last Christmas, planning for an Alaskan cruise. She started using them for weekend road trips...each person packs a cube and they all go together in one suitcase. Easy to find each individual person 's stuff. Bought compression cubes for myself earlier this year to go along with my regular cubes. What a neat suitcase! Just have to be careful of the weigh because I can fit in so much.

I have been using packing cubes since they came out! Just love them! One big benefit I recently found was when my suitcase broke (came apart while being handled by the airline) was because everything was in packing cubes, nothing was lost. They bagged up everything including the suitcase and nothing was missing. The only damaged was a pair of shoes that was NOT in a packing cube.

I do most of the things in this video depending on the circumstances. The biggest problem I have with packing cubes and vacuum bags is keeping the weight in limits if I'm checking a bag. With carry on bags the restriction is size more than weight. In either case i like a vacuum bag for dirty clothes, you don't have to worry so much about folding/rolling them and there's no odor/soil contamination. One other trick for souvenirs is to pack and ship them home. I'll actually use some of our dirty clothes as packing to protect the fragile stuff. We have found that shipping is a third to half as expensive as overweight fees or extra checked bag fees. Not sure how well that would work traveling abroad but in the states it is a great hack.

My boyfriend travels a lot for work and he has shipped things instead of paying an extra baggage fee (he will usually check with the hotel that they will let him have a package sent there. He does it with his golf clubs. He just takes them to Fed ex the day before he flys and asks for two day shipping to the hotel and then ships them back the day before or morning of (if he has an evening flight) to his home.

I use compression packing cubes. One thing i do find is that depending on the items i pack, the compression cube is thicker in the middle and thinner on the edges. I adjust it by rolling smaller items and placing them closer to the zippered edge. So when I compress the cube, it will be a lot more uniformly flat and not bulge in the middle...if that makes sense. I have brought just a carry on and a personal item with me for a 14 day trip using compression cubes. (FYI, I had to pack a suit jacket, trousers, skirt, 3 blouses, and dress shoes for my work. And then the casual stuff for my off time.) My colleague was impressed at how much I could get in my carry on! (Thanks, Megan for suggesting the Kon Mari method and army method of 'folding'. I will try that next trip!) Love your content!

Since I travel for cruises quite often, I tend to mostly sort cubes by type of clothing, but I also have a few others. If I'm only staying overnight before boarding, I keep a cube for embarkation day. That way I only have to unpack two cubes when I arrive (nightwear and embarkation day). Oh, and I'll keep swimwear items in that embarkation day cube so I can carry it on the ship with me (as three things are generally open for the first several hours; the bars, the buffet, and the pools). For my upcoming trip to Sydney for a cruise, I'll have a second one, as I like to tour places I've never been before and arrive a few days early.

I pack my stuff in the "vacuum compression bags". I squeeze out all of the air & the bag maintains an air-tight seal. For the small (travel sized) ones, you don't need to hook it up to a vacuum cleaner, you can just roll them to force out the air.

The Ranger Roll is my go-to for packing. I one-up it by placing my knickers and socks on top of the t-shirt I'm rolling and then I roll it all together. Boom! Instant outfit for the day - socks, knickers, and a t-shirt. No need to rummage around for your undergarments.

I probably should start usin them. I sort of do something similar, but with ziplock bags (which serve dual purpose. I can put dirty clothes in them and seal them up and compress them but you can buy a box of them -- like 100 gallon sized) for $10 here in the US). The nice thing is they are disposable if they get damaged or otherwise smell, etc. Although iwill try to reuse them if possible. But obviously a gallon sized ziplock is only so big and only good for a few pairs of socks and/or underwear. I will probably pick up a set for my next long trip (for shorter trips I probably won't bother or I'll just use one or two as my shorter trips generally are only 3-4 days tops). i guess I do use small packing cubes (as I do have a small cheap set I bought, but these are mainly mesh) and use them primarily for things like electronics or wires as mentioned and it's nice to have them because I used to just put all the cables into a pocket and the ywould get tangled up so now Ikeep them banded together in a small cube. I also have one that's an emergency toiletries kit (which includes a small tube of toothpaste, a small bar of soap, some shampoo I got from a hotel, and a small toothbrush, all of which I just keep in my carry-on bag and a second in my larger checked bag just in case so i don't forget, as I found that I tend to forget some of the essentials when packing -- especially for trips that might be short notice).

Better than the army roll is the variation on the Kon Mari method where one creates a pocket for the rest of the fabric to go into. Easy to stack vertically and also the item stays folded even if you toss it from one place to another - best of both worlds (Kon Mari and Army/Ranger roll)

Love packing cubes. I will combine things, like one cube will have swimming suits, coverups, sun tan lotion, chair clips, second pair of sunglasses, etc. That way everything for the pool (on a cruise) is in one place. With limited space on cruise ships, packing cubes brilliant as like you mentioned, just put in the drawer or shelf, unzip, and there is everything at a glance. It used to take me over 1 hr to unpack on a cruise ship, now I can complete in less than 15 minutes.

10:00 Ok I travel every other month and have for almost 8 years now. I keep one local travel and one flight travel clear foldable box in closet. Everything I normally use, bathroom stuff goes in them. They are already in travel cases. I simply pull out appropriate box, toss the bag into suitcase. When I fly home and while I'm unpacking my suitcase, I simply refill anything I have used and put away. I do this with my flight backpack also. My clear in flight must haves like headphones stay in front pocket. I have a 3--2-1 rule. Day 3 before flight I pull my bags down . Charge rechargeable batteries I may need and charge my headset and pull my clothing. Day 2 I inspect my clothing and narrow down what I don't need. I keep dryer sheets in different compartments of my bag so it doesn't smell when I open it. Day 1 before flight I finalize anything in suitcase. Then I'm not stressed on day of flying!

Small packing cubes are great in your backpack for everyday or short trips. It's easy to store: extra sweater/ shirt etc.., eye glass cases (so they don't rattle around, or any small items.

Unfortunately the clam opening is only available in the Weekender style. I tried packing cubes one year and hated it my mind did open back up to them until you placed them in drawer.

Packing compression cubes are the best solution if you don’t have to weight your carryon. And in many world’s airports the weigh allowed is maximum 8 kgs.

Totally understand, they are tougher to get at in a backpack. I still find them super helpful to compress if I am just traveling with a personal item and need the extra packing space. Not great for organization in a backpack though 😅

The only people who advocate packing cubes are the idiots who don’t know about clear compression bags, 🙄 and the companies that sell compression cubes 💥 once you put your clothes in a clear compression bag, put them between the mattress and the boxspring and remove all the air You now have a very flat package and you can clearly see the clothes that are inside , but all the air has been removed. It is the only way to honestly get a compression package no such thing as a compression cube, although plenty of shysters on KZread are trying to sell them to the unwary 🙄 they don’t work the zippers break

Delightful but, and don't take this the wrong way, would have been even better is you slowed your speech down a bit. I wear hearing aids and your rapid delivery made the narration difficult to follow - had to turn you down to 0.75 normal speed!

Letting greed or lust for style or fashion guide one into such a undesirable paradox of additional expenses of purchasing tinier adaptations of what one already owns: a bag capable of carrying everything inside the cubes -- then watching one's baggage swell up as cube--after--space--occupying--weigjt augmenting cube is packed ---with all the thrill of grass grow ---and not knowing exactly what to make of a suddenly overtly cumbersome collapsible travel bag to which cubes have added unnecessary volume -- after much space prioritization ---when one could simply have saved themselves considerable efforts with simpler one compartment baggage or packing -- by a simpler layout--- permissible of just glossing through contents in one sweep -- potentially shattering their expectations of blissful security cross overs---in their approaching destinations -- where inquisitive security'll thank you to be done by morning unpacking for searches, before sounds of ecstatic welcomes---from family are ruined by impatience from folks, for the many impatience disappointments following difficult unstowing gift appurtenances -- in which of those cubes?

Hello, in the ranger roll method, doesn't the hemline of the t-shirt get looser? or does that depend on how long you keep them packed?
