Same with Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The overtourism has led more traffic in the city as well as it is losing its original charm and peace . Ghats and temples have become overcrowded and places that were earlier known to give calmness to your mind are now echoing with noises. The native residents of the city are facing many issues because of this overtourism

@@Abhi10183there's a limit for development. For example, govt started building infrastructure in Himalayan region and we all know the consequences now - rapid flood, landslide, etc etc. So, yes, over tourism is a problem and even if govt starts creating more infrastructure (capacity building) then it also has detrimental effect in the long run. Sustainable development is the key and most importantly people should realise this too.

now I realize why Jharkhand government is not very pro tourism despite of such a huge tourism potential of the state. More tourism also leads to building of more hotel and resorts and everyone wants the nature's view due to which many forests and lakes a destroyed. My mother told that when she was young, the end of jhumri taliya from one side dint used to visible but now they have filled it so much that ends are clearly visible Even temprature has raised a lot. Earlier ppl dint needed fan Even in summers but now summers are extreme and rain fall had decreased. Tourism is obviously not responsible for climate change but increase in tourism can Make it worst

Local bodies and State Govt Tourism Department should take immediate steps to regulate the same. Very good video. Excellent. Presentation by Palki Sharma

Same situation happened in Vizag. So 6years ago we discovered a place in Vizag except local fishermen no one knows that place. So when we got lost in around Pudimadaka area some local fishermen were curious about our bikes and stopped us to take some pics so then we asked if they know any place around and we found a breathtaking scenic place with 2 sided sea and 1 side back waters river and to go on top we have to trek for 1-2 kms. And we posted it in our Instagram and then all our GITAM University students started flooding there and it’s totally destroyed now. Lesson if you like something don’t share keep it to yourself to enjoy again.

Amazing content and analysis. Sometimes I find your commentary too cynical but this one I could relate to a lot. I don't want to sound preachy but I turned from being a 'traveler explorer trekker' to 'rather stay at home and explore city' person over the years and over tourism is the reason. The mad rush for bucket lists and social media peer pressure is driving the aspiring rich crazy. We can't say for the world, I have the least respect for European countries as they are built on exploitation but for Bharat, it is high time we increase the ticket price for prized heritage sites. Our temples, ASI marked sites need to be preserved at all costs, they are not Insta or selfie spots.

Living on the French Riviera, we see this too. Sometimes two of the biggest cruise ship are staying here for the day(s). Hoards of tourists are flooding the streets and beaches without bringing anything to the local people except nuisance. Due to the "all inclusive" package, those people do not spend a dime on anything outside their travel arrangements but have no shame to touch everything from fruits on the markets to sightseeing items they never buy at the end ... Shuttle boats run at a 10 min rhythm to transport the tourists back and forth all day. People litter the town, block the roads and have no respect for either culture or rules. All whilst the cruise ships constantly blast a toxix steam into the air which we later find in our home as a smear on our furnitures … Just imaginge how our health is secretly infected by this. In summer we have half naked men and women walking through the center of town or trying to enter the restaurants. I could rumble on with countless examples ….

I just completed my third trip to Spain since 2021, and here is what I learned: 1) Don't bother with Barcelona, it is beautiful, but a mad crush of tourists with sky-high costs. Go to Zaragoza instead. 2) Visit Spain's "empty regions" (empty is the term used here because most of these states are sparsely populated): Castilla y Leon, Extremadura, Aragon. 3) Do Madrid, but see less popular neighborhoods and sights, and enjoy the many lovely parks. 4) Pre book visits to major sights and book your hotels/trains as early as possible. 5) Escape the heat and visit the north, particularly Galicia.

Appreciate madam for telling the truth and exposing the danger of over tourism. India is suffering from this malady which nobody dares to raise for obvious reasons. We have seen the impact of over tourism and the irresponsible govt promoting tourism as the major source of revenue and corruption in the name of tourism development by allowing unabated construction of resorts and motels in hill areas and obstruction of rain water pathways and drainage system. Himachal Pradesh, uttarakand and spiritual centres like kedarnath are destroyed beyond imagination. Because of the influx of tourist with different cultural differences and food habits it has affected the livelihood of locals and creating serious social problems like drug menace, immoral activities and prices of food and properties which locals can't afford. In Kerala many tourist destination like Thekkadi and munnar are converted into concrete jungles and food prices going over the roof. Local people should take initiative to stop tourism for next couple of years to restore eco system and stabilise the local economy

This is a very relevant and very irritating topic for the serious travelers like me. I am a photographer and I would like to share some of my experience. Love to hear from you all. I was in a place to click some pics. There were a group of young girls. As a courtesy (which was a mistake from my part) allows them to click the shot, first. They took selfies by making different faces. Then they edited the pics on their mobile. Then they posted the pics and was waiting for the feedback. I had waited for next 20 minutes, then I had to tell them to leave the place, so that I can take some pics. In another location it was still worse. I had seen some pics on net and want to take some pics from that location. When I went to that location, my guide informed me that that location was blocked by Government. Reason? Some tourists died while taking the selfie.

Yesterday I was in Hallstatt / Austria, visiting the archaeological excavations every year. Hallstatt has ~700 inhabitants. Hallstatt has ~700,000 tourists per year, ~500,000 of them coming from China! In China, Hallstatt has been rebuilt for touristic reasons. Some Chinese guests assume the inhabitants are actors paid by tourist organizations. That's overtourism at its worst. But you don't find many visitors in the museum with a lot of unique archaeological objects as the prehistoric early iron age in Central Europe (ca. 800BC to 450BC) is known as Hallstatt Culture. And the visitors to the famous winged carved altarpiece are also relatively few.

Just last year. I was travelling thorugh beautiful meadows of valley of flowers. It was heartbreaking to see people loitering around throwing away used up water bottles, plastic bags and some even went far as plucking away flowers.

In many parts of the world, including India the local infrastructures serving tourism are not updated though the local authorities have gained substantial commercial gain. The facilities are the same for decades.

This is bound to happen when 1) People have money in hand to spend on things over and above basic necessities and this is ever increasing 2) People have loads of time in this world as they have lot less to do at their home level 3) Social pressure, when they see people from their strata are visiting different places and they should not be taken otherwise 4) Ease of travel and modes available Human has devastated the ecosystem form the day human came into existence and this will just get worst day by day. This is the harsh reality, even if majority disagrees

This channel has been commissioned very strategically to show all the negatives outside INDIA. Never talks about any issues in INDIA which are troublesome, never talks about issues outside INDIA which from INDIA or other countries can learn !! What a master stroke to infuse people with hatred !! Quite brilliant!! It is important to know the stories but its important to show the other side of it too..!!

Responsible tourism should replace the fancy social media showoff tourism!! People are comparing themselves with their social media followers and trying to compete with them in all useless aspects, tourism is one of it..Young ppl should compete with their frnds & followers in useful aspects like volunteering for poor children, helping those who are in need, reading books, understanding a culture, planting a sapling etc..I appreciate your selection of this issue Mam..People are educated but not wise !!!

As much as I love travelling and exploring new destinations since my childhood, I am sick of these 'newly' fashioned monkey travellers who have nothing to do with the 'experience' but everything to do with just showing off. Even as I child my father taught me to keep all trash in the bag or throw in the garbage bin while travelling, but social media chu chus are making it all ruin for the 'real' travellers. 😕

Mrs Sharma alway on point with timely topics. I think biggest issue is tourists whom don't respect local people or their customs and culture. Even know how communicate in basics their language. Yet when other people of other countries visiting American. We're first get our high horses about them not understanding our customs or language.

There are many effective solutions to the problems that come with overtourism.(Great topic FYI) Unfortunately, there are no practical proposals that dont also represent a significant loss in revenue to the affected populations. Its up to the locals to figure out one essential question. Money, (which is survival for my destinations) or preserve the environment, heritage, customs and culture? So sad that such choices need to be made.
