How one person can separate a stuck fly rod
Had a fly rod that wouldn't come apart I tried all of the advise on the Internet, pull with knees, putting ice, hot water and WD40 on the ferrules and tugging on them all a waste of time. Didn't have a second person for the 2 person pull or a can of butane for the freeze method.
So I taped two pieces of 1 inch thick x 12 inch long scrap wood to the rod on either side of the ferrule with electrical tape leaving enough room to insert a quick clamp. Used the quick clamp reversed to pry open the ferrules by spreading them apart at the ends of the strips of wood.
The strips of wood taped to the rod give the spreader clamp something to grab onto without damaging the rod, the clamps worked effortlessly with no damage done to the rod and I didn't need another person.

Bruce you rock! Hardy Demon was stuck again. Tried the frozen paper towel trick, the two person technique, behind my knees. Nothing worked. Last time this happened, I broke the rod. Tried what you suggested with a cheap clamp and some gorilla tape and it worked like a charm. Saved me a lot of headache! Thanks so much.

This worked when no other technique did! It saved a Sage rod I inherited from my younger brother who passed away from Lou Gehrig's disease...means a lot to me. Thanks so much for this great idea!
I usually hold stuck rod sections between my knees and pull apart with hands.

Firstly outstanding, it worked. Even when ice , double handed technique didnt with 4 people. What is the model of clamp you used? I used quick grip mini irwin , and gorilla tap. I had to help hold the wood inline when pushing it appart. So thats why i think the irwin model of clamp is important.

Hi. When I pull the trigger, the wood slides along the rod. Do you have any tip to make it stop rolling with the rod?

Try wrapping the tape tighter without any space between the wraps and/or use a different brand of electrical tape.
I am s it by myself. I used woodprix woodworking plans for that.
