I said to the jockey on this well done and it looked like once he missed the break that he had accepted his fate and was just getting a run into the horse to let it get home in its own time, until it looked to me that he suddenly realised that if he pushed it out then he might run on and make the frame and then later if he gave it a slap or two that it might even get up late on. Agitated? Yes. But in a good way. Definitely NOT frightened. These horses know when a race is about to start and they get excited and anxious for the gate to open. It's quite factual and obvious. @@gondorbunny What you've just written is total crap. We know when horses - a prey species - are frightened, because their ears will pivot backwards and all around so they can hear a potential threat from behind and all directions. Technically. evolutionarily speaking, a horse perceives a human rider on its back as a predator that has just jumped onto it - the way that a lion would. If their ears are pointing forward, that means that they're anticipating trouble and working out how to navigate it. If you don't know what you're talking about, you probably shouldn't be writing about this stuff.

Just watched it, you're right. An astonishing final sprint.
There are more races like this in places where jockys rate the horse off the pace that is usually too fast ...then have more horse to finish faster....tactical....we need to see more of this kind in the US...the science of Sports !!
His reply was "yeah, basically that was it after the start we got and was all I could really do".

"DRS enabled"
The first 3 furlongs were run in 34 seconds and the last 3 in 37secs. The last furlong was run in 14 seconds and the first in a shade under 11 seconds. From this I glean some pointers for in-play traders. If only I had spent more time at school studying dovetail joints I would have a less wobbly table to rest my keyboard.

Sounded quite reasonable that as the race progresses, the furlong times will reduce substantially, due to horse fatigue. Obviouslyy the trainers trained the horse to a slower distance but knows the horse can run further.
You can see the sudden burst of speed it has at 0:56 - sometimes horses just want to go at specific times and this was one such instance.

I've never ever seen a horse instinctively stretch its neck out so much on the line. That horse knew it was in a race.
I wonder how much the whip hurts the horse. I can't imagine it hurts too badly for a horse cause if it hurt too much the horse would react negatively. I've felt one on my arm though and it hurts like hell

I’ve been around horses quite a lot and can tell you they DO NOT like it either. Some horses will react very negatively, and others who just put up with it. There are a lot of people who believe they should be banned entirely, but others who will say that a light tap will get the horse going fine.... I’ll admit I’m very much against how hard racers usually hit their horses. I’ve seen it break skin if done too hard too often. Ouch! Gently plz

@Michael Burkinshaw good to know there’s been improvements so it hopefully is less uncomfortable for the horse. I’ve never done racing, but the most stubborn horse I’ve had to deal with still went fully gallop as soon as I just held up a crop XD he was not a fan of even seeing one

If you watched it carefully in slow motion some few metres to the final line, there is a space or room or corridor as it is called left for a short time in favour of the winning horse. The jockey just pushes the horse in and accelerates.

Some horses like to have horses in front of them to run "at", it's just a personal quirk. Zenyatta liked to compete this way.
It was bucking around in the stall. Which tells me it was the most agitated / frightened horse there. Which also tells me it probably thought it was running for its life!
@gondorbunny
3 жыл бұрын
Agitated? Yes. But in a good way. Definitely NOT frightened. These horses know when a race is about to start and they get excited and anxious for the gate to open. It's quite factual and obvious. These horses are treated like the top athletes that they are and given the best of everything, so they have no cause for fear.
@lifesgreat9951

Great horse 🐎 but I will definitely give the credit to the jockey.... one of the best come from behind race I've ever seen
He closed nicely in the last hundred yards after a contested pace early.
missed the break, but was going like a good thing the whole way.
He was absolutely bang up for winning that race... Stretched his neck a foot lol
Very nice race
Normally you'd say it was a furious early pace but it didn't look it judging by horses up with the pace early not fading at the end. So basically just a much better horse who's speed rating in that race will be a fair above the others. It was a maiden
patiently wait and go!!!
Did anyone notice the winning horse stick his head out at the finish line. Do horses know the concept of racing and the science behind sticking your head out to inch in front. Amazing.
If you went to the courses and realised these courses are not flat as its looks on T.V, you would se the undulations in the track, try running up hill then down and repeat a couple of times, you will notice the time differences for each stretch.
Ill always remember this as i had a tenner onit 🤣🤣
0:45 if you pay enough attention, all jockeys pushed their horses except the winning jockey who still holding horse at the back... He allowed his horse to fully start its engine when others used up half energy...it was tactics, not only luck
That's the absolute truth that he ran faster than the other horses and also true that the others ran slower
