Stu, I need to rebuild or build a few structural brick piers that hold up a porch. Can you show us what goes into making a structural brick pier oppose to a normal brick pier?

Wanna give you a bit of advice , when your using engineering bricks , in the winter or when the air is damp use a blow torch on the bricks before you start laying a thing, sort of thing for torch on felt, heat em right up and they will lay lovely , you see them steaming where the moisture is evaporating out the bricks , give em a few mins to cool down and away you go works every time ,

Ive been a Bricklayer over ten years, no chance with wet bricks and laying them on ply wont help, the vibrations will make it more wet. For anyone trying a brick pier try doing 3 - 4 coures then let it go off a little. Then plumb it up. helps me. Nice vid mate. keep it up.

Great video. I've just bought a house and the rear garden wall is just shy of 1m high, is it possible to add piers to the existing wall so I can span the gap with metal railings, or would I be better demolishing and starting from the ground?? There is about a 3m drop at the other side of the wall and I'm worried the dog will be over to chase rabbits and break something!! Thanks 😀

Stu so u don't have to pay for a mix each time I have solution , just buy 3 sand bags and lime not cement this means you will have the same texture each time also this never goes hard just leave I in a bug get and just add small amount of water each time. the first time you mix , mix the same as u would with cement except this time it is lime This does work and will save lots of money with sand and cement because u only buy it Hope u find this useful Regards GBS
