the temperature of cold water in the washing machine is +15 degrees, and the temperature of cold water in the river in winter +4-+5. Synthetic clothing does not withstand drying in the cold and begins to break down. Just as it will begin to break down when heated. My dad was from Denmark. Fighting snow to do laundry was beneath them. They just sent it out to Norway and it came back a week later smelling like herring. Everyone was happy with this arrangement. Fun fact I just learned that Scandinavian countries let their baby sleep outside in the stroller i think that’s why they don’t get cold easily or fall sick. In my motherland it’s the complete opposite with our tropical weather different seasons. Just fascinating to learn how people live at the other side of the world.

Прикольное кино!!! Я смеялась! Я помню то время в России, когда не было еще стиральных машин и сушилок. Но никто не стирал в реке в холодное время, потому что: - Колодец был в деревне всегда и вода в нем не замерзала. Воду из колодца использовали для всех нужд: стирать, готовить, поить коров, свиней. Да, сушили белье на улице, но одевались тепло и дорожки чистили к дому и к колодцу. Это всë фантастик! 😂

It's times like this that I'm glad we have modern washers.

Im surprised she didnt take advantage of the opportunity to ice fish while the clothes were soaking. She could have brought back some nice fish to dry on the line with the clothes. It's all about multi-tasking!😊

Hats off to all Nordic women or girls or men I don't know really that how many of them do the laundry 🧺 in such a harsh conditions and how much energy she was using to pull that ice and then washing the clothes in that chill water and after that how she walked in the snow to hang the laundry. I am an Indian lady ,after watching this video I am still feeling 🥶 , really they are superhuman. Salute to them for doing their daily house chores.

Only thing missing, at the end, is her beating the demons out of the clothes, to break off all the ice. It's an arctic trick I learned growing up in a place that see +40C to easily -30C and snow. Fall in a pond/lake?. OH boy. strip. squeeze as much water out as you can, stuff with snow, cover.. try not to freeze to death, beat the water ice off them,, fun stuff.

I was waiting for her husband to come out in a perfectly snow blown path and say “why didn’t you just throw them in the washing machine” 😆

Indeed, because it would be difficult to ship a washing maching through snow like this, or you can probably drop it off using airplane, but most appliances wouldnt survive the first trip and end up buried in snow.
