In This video I talk about my favourite phone of all time, the Nokia N9, and how it helped shape the phones that we use today because of how innovative and ahead of its time the Nokia N9 was. I talk about the hardware aspects of the Nokia N9 as well as its MeeGo Harmattan OS and how they led the way and changed the game. Which device was more influential, Nokia N9 or Apple's original iPhone?

They have a roadmap at the moment. They seem to be doing very well with it. They are the 3rd largest vendor in UK and don’t take a genius to know who the first 2 are. They are 4th in Europe and they now have incredible growth in North America. I personally think within 2 years we will see a true premium phone from Nokia/HMD. The last 2 years have just been growth upon growth. Not small growth either but huge like increased sales of up to 200% in some regions. Honestly I think we are on the verge of seeing them once again being a dominant force in the mobile industry. Don’t forget they still have their network business which is also going from strength to strength. Major contract in the UK and now in India with Huawei being pulled in both markets.

Never owned an N9 but I still have a Lumia 1020 which was heavily inspired by its design. To this day, almost ten years later, I'm still waiting for a phone maker (HMD doesn't count) that makes phone designs this good and pays attention to small design details from the symmetry of the camera cutouts to something as minute as the alignment of the microphone hole with the SIM card tray. Nokia knew how to design.

I had to rewatch this video recently as I just finally picked up an N9. I had been wanting one for my Nokia collection for quite a while but they're not very common in the US. I have to say that it certainly did not disappoint! Such a beautiful phone and OS. Truly a timeless design, it still looks modern today and will continue to. I have large hands but I even prefer it's size. It feels much better in the hand than my Lumia 1020 that I've been using for the last several years too. I'm so glad that this channel exists. And you do such a great job as well. How we all yearn for the Nokia's of old!

Thanks for speaking my mind Abdulla... I wish people actually know what Nokia is capable of doing and have been doing. There were few more things which many companies brag now a days, which were initially done by Nokia in around 2012-14. This will be a hard activity but a video on Lumia Refocus camera app, which enhanced the use the potential of single lens in terms of Portraits, basis such features Pixel actually hyped their entire brand itself

Nokia wrote its own obituary. They completely ignored the market they could have dominated had they reacted earlier, when their name still meant something. I loved (And still do) love those old Nokia devices. I recall Symbian used to work well, but it was glaringly obvious when using it where its roots were; Psion's EPOC32 software. That's what it always was, and no amount of shiny UIs could have sorted that out, and I think Nokia knew that and were looking for a way out even during the Symbian era; namely with the N9 and N900, both Linux-based, because I think they could see what Google and Apple were doing and knew it would end up being the future. I think Stephen Elop was dealt a shit set of cards and did what he had to; bring Microsoft in. More to the point, the HMD devices can't hold a candle to the design flair Nokia had during their zenith. I don't find myself WANTING one like I lusted after an E90 or N95.

When the n9 was announced, i was using nokia e63, and as a college student, i could only dream of buying n9 but rhat phone was special, the terms ahead of its time is perfectly justified. I have used gestures completely for the last few years now, and this phone had it 14 years ago, and im surprised to find out it had always on display. Nokia killed itself by choosing Microsoft and everyone knew it. Even android would've been a perfect option to go with back then.

the thing that i like this phone is a photography. super clear back then. for video recording, N9 might be good enough for shooting not too fast-paced scenes. you can use other OS like Sailfish to run on this phone too. Unfortunately, the Nokia N9 music player offers no equalizers, or repeat of a single song. There's regular repeat and shuffle though and you can mark tracks as favorite. That way they will appear in the automatically generated favorites playlist, which as i said, can be accessed from the main screen of the music player. my conclusion is that Nokia N9 is a great phone that simply arrived at the wrong place in the wrong time at that time. If you're looking at a lasting relationship, it needs to be based on unconditional love. OK, good, it’s an easy phone to fall in love with. But you'd better be the monogamous type too.

Interesting analogy :) Nokia could have further developed MeeGo to have feature parity with Symbian while still retaining its sweet design and user interface. But N9 only got a couple of minor updates. Wrong place, wrong time, best phone ever.

I thought my new Galaxy Note 9 looks cooler than all other relatively new phones, but the Nokia N9 looks even better, wow! I wonder why I didn't run into the N9 back in the day, probably because it lacks a physical keyboard (I still need a physical keyboard, therefore the BB KeyONe is my daily driver, though swype writing with the Note 9's spen stylus isn't too bad either). The design and size of the N9 looks just right!

Nokia N9 i still own it and the meego OS was mind blowing in 2011. Camera was also better than iPhone or Samsung in that year. Nokia N9 was only lacking of some apps. User interface, notifications and multitasking was a king in 2011. NOKIA is a always Great and others copied from the King Nokia

Can you compare how Raw photos stretch in Nokia 9 and iPhone 14? Underexpose and try to stretch the shadows of who has more?

I think Blackberry 10 is an honourable mention also as well. But Nokia N9 was definitely the best integration of a gesture based OS applied to hardware built specifically for that OS. It’s just crazy to think it was actually consumers that hindered the gesture introduction. The average consumer just didn’t get it and obviously that’s why it was feed into iOS and Android feature by feature. Great video about one of the greatest phones ever made. I think the N9 was the true essence of Nokia. It’s just a shame they got themselves trapped OS wise. But we still have Jolla as a result of meego

@@SirFaceFone indeed they did with multitasking. But it was skeuomorphic like iOS at the time. Blackberry 10 but more so meego was the true beginnings of what we see today with flat design and gestures with multitasking. Palm was also way ahead of the game but as for meego, blackberry 10, windows phone ect, the 2 legged race of iOS and Android was already won, only nobody nee it for sure when palm os was released. But it was definitely known by the time of meego, bb10, WP.

I had a BB Z10 and also enjoyed using it. But for me, BB 10 OS wasn't on the same level of refinement and design as MeeGo. Still a cool OS that was also heavily shafted by the media back in its day.
