I actually really liked Captain Marvel but this was the worst thing in the film. Nick Fury always talked about how he lost his eye in Winter Solider due to betrayal. But to have it get scratched out by a cat for the sake of humor completely removes the gravity from such an injury. That eye used to be a painful reminder of a mistake Furry made in the past and forever damaged his ability to trust. Now it's just a throw away joke.

I would've been fine if the humor paid off. In this movie, it did not. Guardians of the Galaxy actually did it well. The dance off moment was very unpredictable and the acting in that scene pulls through. Not only that but it then FOLLOWS UP with a super powerful and emotional scene so everything clicks. For Captain Marvel, there was no build up, the acting was cool but it was just Sam being hyped up over a cat, and there was no emotional impact at all. It just happened. And it negatively effects other MCU movies. So... yeah. Shit was wack.

The Mandarin twist is actually not that bad, because it is revealed in a one-shot that the real Mandarin is still out there and he wants his name back. In it, he kidnapps Trevor from the prison that he, Justin Hammer and a bunch of inmates are in by sending a fake interviewer to take him to the real leader.

He didn’t lose his sight instantly and it wasnt the scratch that did it, it was the poison in the scratch. He laughed it off like any other cat scratch but as the Skrull noted, it was much worse than what he thought

The movie was really crap. It was another SJW film that Disney made so it was destined for failure. The fans diserved some bad ass spy story about how Fury was betrayed, possibly by a close friend, which resulted in him losing an eye and never trusting anyone fully again. Instead of that we get a throw away joke of a cat clawing out his eye, wot? And before some triggered Caption Marvel fan for running in here, ik it's not a hECkiNg cat, it's an alien. Now that is a good plot twist there.

Ok can I just say something? They didn't change Fury from white to black because of the movies, it was the other way around. In the late 90s and early 2000 for the Ultimates (the Avengers from the ultimate universe), Marvel asked Sam Jackson if they could use his likeness for that version of Fury, Jackson agreed under the condition that he'd get to play Fury in future projects, later when Iron Man was made Jackson got his wish, the MCU happened and the rest is history.

Ok, here's how I would of done the origin of Nick Fury's missing eye. What if the cause of Fury's messed up eye was caused by a skrull disguised as someone he trusted, the skrull attacks Nick Fury with a small weapon to find the tesseract & shoots him in the eye, the skrull gets closer to Nick Fury, pointing the weapon at him to deliver a final blow, the skrull threatens Fury if he doesn't tell him where the tesseract is he will die, but then Goose rushes in & saves the day by eating the skrull. After that Goose gets closer to Fury, tries to comfort him after he list his eye & Goose tries to lick it clean or something. This works much better because Nick Fury is still a bad @$$ because he lost his eye in the heat of battle & is still funny because a cat saved his @$$.

Captain marvel can't do that. She can destroy ships yes but facing against a powerful being like thanks she will need the teams help to take him down. And also he power level. She wouldn't have got it if it weren't for her experience with Earth and her past thanks to the skrulls. And the lessen she remembers. When you fall you can get back up.

It would have been so much more significant to the plot of The Winter Soldier if a Skrull took out his eye, one he trusted completely as his boss, who he later ended up working with, yet he still never trusted people the same again.

If you think about it at first it actually doesn't make sense but if you take a closer look it's not. Fury doesn't trust anyone because anyone is a threat. But a cat is not at first but then he found out that the cat is alien and a threat.

I liked the way it all played out. And that line in winter soldier, "last time I trusted someone I lost an eye" could easily be Fury's way of working someone's emotions to get them to do what must be done. As we have seen Fury do MANY times already.
