Gene Upshaw was treated for spinal arthritis for years. One day, while golfing, his back pain became so severe he was transported to the hospital. While he was there, test were run that showed Upshaw didn't have spinal arthritis at all, but had been misdiagnosed. Upshaw actually had pancreatic cancer which was in advanced stages. The Oncologist told him to get his affairs in order as he only had days to live. Three days later, Gene Upshaw was dead.

Walter Payton and Mike Webster both played in the 70's when steroids were prominent. Payton bragged about his ability to out weight lift his offense lineman. Mike Webster was a steroid user . Both die young and played when the NFL didn't care about drug use as long as players played and TV ratings were up.

His technical cause of death was bile duct cancer. It has also been revealed that he was addicted to PAIN medicine. I have found no concrete evidence that his PSC was caused by steriod use. However, many athletes, even today, will take supplements not even knowing that it is considered "performance enhancing drugs"

Please include why you have that opinion. The suicides may be from those concussions and the resultant brain injuries but there are numerous homicides, car crashes, and heart attacks.
