I’ve been around people that have made monumental songs with rap artists, and even the producers get spent as well. Very thankful for Distro kid, and still learning other ways to put my music out there and have more control over it in before so knowing that Ne-Yo went through these things helps us understand even more about the entry

In the music industry nothing is free and everything is recoupable. The bottles you pop, the jewelry they rent for the videos and even the Backwoods you use to roll your blunts with is recoupable. What’s even crazier is that in the age of streaming and digital downloads, artists are still charged for breakage. Sometimes labels will just shelf you instead of dropping you to make sure nobody else is able to capitalize on your talent. The record business is really a loan shark business and worse than a payday loan. And now with 360 deals the norm, forget about it. You might be in the 0.00001 percentile that becomes a superstar from a label deal, but chances are you would be better going the route of Larussell.

I was signed to a major lable,in the 90's, exact same thing, took us to restaurants as i was the typical starving artist, sent me home from Manhattan in limos, paid for me attend seminars, never realized that was my budget, long story short,album sold 30,000 units with zero promo,my moms passed from cancer and they sent me a package to the funeral home,no,it wasn't flowers it was papers saying "you've been dropped of the lable",lables are cold hearted savages.

Label folks are shady AF. Being around somebody that knows the game. Has the information to help you excel but keeps you in the dark to exploit you is disrespectful. To feel played smh

This is the real reason they go after the young & poor When your young you may intentionally take a bad deal. “It’s just 3 albums”. “I can make a fortune off live performances “ etc. We are always our business. We’re always working for ourselves. Know your worth. The record industry is shady has always been known.

These labels know that there is a high likely hood that the artist won’t even recoup the money that was invested in them so the labels are banking on that golden lodery ticket that will help carry all the artists that are flopping.

Fun fact, Neyo wanted to work with me but my team didn’t have the budget minimum he required. I’m still working and just happy he listened to my music and liked it.
