Not gon lie. Back in the 90s you got 16 tracks & a few pictures in the jewel case. That was IT. It gave the fans room to create illusion & fandom from the MUSIC. Nowadays you see the artist FAR too much & it tarnishes their legacy ( game, wakka, 50, ti, jim jones ). If I saw ice cube or brotha lynch hung on my TV everyday eating cereal & talking about current events ?? I don't think I would've looked at them the same.

When did collaborations become a necessity in an age of technology where one person can do everything?!? I think of each collaborator having their own shade of color, when you get more than 3 to 5 more collaborators - the sum of all the colors become bland and opaque - where everyone sounds like everyone else. But that’s where the money is and you get what you get- very slow progress of the evolution of music. It’s forced brainwashing that collaboration is a necessity. There was a time when you had way more unique music in every genre when there was 3 or less collaborators per song. Often the most memorable songs had one songwriter.

I wanted to sample something to play on the background from juicy Jay on a beat and I was like f it I don’t feel like looking so I recorded my own voice and said something I thought juicy j would’ve said and turned it into a sample and warped the voice and changed the pitch and that sample actual sounds like some old school chopped and screwed Memphis style sample. Juicy j never said what I said either so if the song blow up he wouldn’t even make money the song 😂😂😂🤷🏽‍♂️

That's crazy. That's why i sample myself from old songs that i did. Im from Texas so on my screwed and chopped hooks or bridges i just sample myself and screw and chop it for a new song if need be. People think it's samples from other Texas artist but it's all me. And i will always sample myself. Looks like i been a step ahead for a while now.

And you know what’s worse? Lots of independent musicians using distrokid are getting screwed over when they run ads to their music , they just don’t receive their royalties. Guess who partially owns distrokid? Yes , you guessed it. Spotify. The game is rigged fam and it has always been rigged

I got one more comment. While every one is so freely putting their music on Spotify, not only are they stealing it with AI, but more famous people steal you ideas before you can ever even blow up to their status. Drake proves that.

Respect. You hit the nail on the head near the end about where the artists play in all of this. Many artists haven't answered the "why" question for themselves on their decision to create music. Are you doing music because you truly love it and want to connect with people (and have a successful business in the process) or are you doing music for the vanity metics, fake personas, or because you are trying to "fit in" to certain circles in the music game? Music fans should be asking themselves the same questions. Peace!

Honestly, I think that too many independent artists care more about the reception of what other people think rather than what they themselves think. Personally, I don't give a shit about the reception potentially received for a song I release, because I'm happy that I even accomplished making a song in the first place. If I'm my only fan, then so be it, I'll continue making the music I like.
