Mad respect for your success. I can't believe you only got $8,000 out of it. The CEO of Spotify said recently that if artists wanted to make more money they have to "churn out more music". Clearly there's a disconnect between the people who make the music and the people who exploit musicians.

You may not understand how money works. Spotify charges like 10/15/20$ per person to subscribe. What if I listen to 5000 songs per month? How much should the artists get per stream? $1? So Spotify has to pay to cover my usage?

Great video and nice revenue! Later this year, I'm planning on documenting a 30 day challenge of music production (starting from scratch in terms of experience) and maybe in the future also getting some tracks out for licensing. It looks like a fun and lucrative little side activity :)

The streaming payouts are dismal. I don't even know how that's legal seeing as the cost of recording, releasing and promoting music is almost always going to outweigh the returns unless you are a big artist. So sad.

Hi Daniel - are you concerned about the copyright ownership of your music? I have a friend who is on the fence with Artlist because of them owning your music's Content ID - but he isn't even sure if that matters. Do you own your music still?
@DanielInskeep
2 жыл бұрын
i own it. they handle monetization through youtube.
The music industry is constantly coming up with ways to take money from artists. It’s good for artists to be aware of the fact that these music platforms have gatekeepers that decide who gets on the playlists, and in my opinion this is a flawed system that will become outdated in the future.

Listening right now, you got some cool tracks man. Bummer this Artlist is kinda vague in earnings and not really motivates to spend a lot of time on when they can go from 66 cent to 30 in just 1 year. I mean what is next? 15 and then 8 ct? 4ct? Where does it end?

The commission rates from most streaming platforms are laughable and ridiculously low. It really needs to be regulated by law. 0.0035% for the artist? Plus additional 30-50% is often taken by a record label/company if the artist is signed. Only major artists can take any meaningful slice from that pie providing they generate streams in millions. Independent artists do not make any money at all except pocket money if they are lucky / if they have good catchy music. It's a broken system that kills art. Three major record companies have their Spotify company share
