How Much YouTube Pays Me w/ 24,000 Subscribers
I was amazed when I saw the revenue generated from my first day with monetization on this channel. After years of making KZread videos full-time, the CPM from this channel far surpasses that of my main channel.
In this video, I break down how much in ad revenue both of my KZread channels earn. At the time of recording, my main channel, Mango Street, has over 1 million subscribers and this channel had around 24,000.
My main channel on photography:
◉ / mangostreet
I show you how much Mango Street earned our first year on KZread, when we hit 500,000 subscribers in the first 12 months. I also show you total lifetime earnings for Mango Street and then we head on over to this channel's revenue analytics.
The bottom line is advertisers pay more to run their ads on the videos related to personal finance and money than the do on something like photography. It seems most advertisers are selling digital products like courses, which likely have close to 95% profit margins. Since they are generally offering education related to making money, they can charge the customer more for access and therefore spend more on advertising.
I also show you how brand deals work for KZreadrs. For a 45-60 second shoutout, a $20-40 CPM is pretty standard. This means if you as a KZreadr generate 100,000 views on average, the advertiser would pay you between $2,000 and $4,000 for a shoutout. This number multiplies when you move from a quick shoutout to a full-on integrated or dedicated video. Numbers range pretty drastically here, but KZreadrs could earn anywhere from 3-20x the shoutout amount for a dedicated video.

Holy crap! That's NUTS! I figured the CPM would be more, it is more niche and target... but I totally didn't expect that much of an increase!? Congrats!

Hi Daniel, super inspired by your channel and love the style of both of your channels. Wanted to get a little advice as youtuber to youtuber. I keep bouncing back and forth on what to do about my channel because it focuses on powerpoint and I know how to use powerpoint very well, but I also know that powerpoint isn't everyone's fan favorite topic to search for. With that in mind I have been debating on expanding beyond powerpoint and do fun marketing and design videos. thoughts on whether or not I should stay niche with just powerpoint and own that space first and then branch out or make the switch sooner than later? Trying to pursue my passion of being a creator on youtube, but also want to be able to live comfortably as well and slightly worried if I keep up with powerpoint I might not be able to get a decent cpm. If you have time to check out this comment and respond I would greatly appreciate any advice. :)

So I always choose to have just skippable ads but I see somehow they're putting two un-skippable ads on the beginning of some of my videos. Do you know what that's about?? And thank you for the transparency and useful vid!
Dang, this is great content. Thanks for sharing so candidly and that CPM is amazing

Agreed. This was an easy video to watch from beginning to end. And.. I have to agree with @Video School - you have incredible content!
Your channel is a gold nugget. Seriously. The no-bs content is something you start appreciating after a while on YT, and getting served what you clicked for is super refreshing. Best of luck with this channel, get that dough.
When I was signing up to Squarespace earlier this year I went through the list of KZread channels I like who had a link and decided to go with Mango Street. Interesting to learn that wasn't actually a traditional affiliate link where you get a little (and I expected it to be very little anyway) bit of money if yours is the one that gets used. But it does look like a safer option for a channel / creator to be able to have a longer deal where they know what they're getting up front.

Wow, I never in a million years would have guessed your main channel gets so little ad revenue. I get why from KZread's perspective, but it almost feels unfair. I'm glad this new channel is working out so well though, your content is high quality and really helpful

yeah, it's pretty crazy for sure. glad you like the new videos!
Transparency aka Honesty is key and you got it brother. Thanks a lot for this.
Lovin this channel! So many personal finance channels are full of generic tips that aren’t often that helpful. I love the approach you’ve taken and how straight forward, open and to the point you are. Less “self helpy” and more real life shit. Love it
This is truly one of the most informative videos I've ever seen on KZread. Great work, man. Now I'll sit down and watch every ad that pops up on this channel.
I came across your channel the other week and I absolutely love it! Thank you for being transparent and real. It has been incredibly inspiring and motivating watching your videos!
Awesome video! I also watch Mango Street and I was definitely surprised by the revenue breakdown considering how new this channel is. Appreciate the weekly uploads!
Been following you since Mango street three years ago. Love the channel idea. Keep it up man!
Thank you so so much for being so transparent, honest and genuine. I love that you just speak about your experience rather than trying to shove expertise down peoples throats, your openness and realness validates your expertise and is just overall much more informative. So many KZreadrs either never show real numbers when talking about cpm or they make such an annoying deal with 'the big reveal' at the end of the video so that when they do share they just gloss over it. (ps this is dope that a small channel can earn a decent amount)
Nice job ones again! Thanks a lot for your honest and open content. Keep going on your journey, and we are here to support you. Thanks man
Great video! One of the reasons why I love both of your channels is because I never feel "tricked" into watching a video. You always provide great insight/content and are incredibly respectful to the viewer. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Vey cool Daniel! An eye opener for sure. This channel is fantastic and I'm glad it's paying off for you, especially given how the resources/experiences you share are so valuable to us, viewers.
Thanks for the insightful content, makes me glad I'm trying my luck in the personal finance space 😎
I subscribed from Mango Street and am glad I did. Such great work Daniel!
Wow this was very enlightening Daniel - thanks for sharing. I've seen a number of people release their recent KZread metrics but I had no idea how wide the disparity was between finance-related channels and more artistic endeavors such as photography. Excellent information and really enjoying this channel so far!
Amazing! Great insight into KZread earnings. Love all your content here and on Mango street!! 🙏🏼
This is so eye-opening. Thank you for sharing Daniel! Been on the fence about starting a channel but this just made me edge a little closer
absolute amazing analysis and transparency. I have no doubts you are going to reach 1 millions subs with this channel.
Probably one of the most honest videos on what a youtuber makes and to the point.
This was really eye opening, thanks for being so honest and sharing this with us!
Congrats man! Happy to see your hard work paying off and glad youre making more from this channel you deserve it
Glad this wasnt click bate ! Thanks for sharing man 💯
Love this breakdown. Thanks so much for sharing. People simply don't realize that it's all CPM based, and not subscribers. Subscribers literally mean nothing on KZread, other than being a vanity metric. I've got a relatively small channel (4k subs), but was still able to pull in $3k last month, which was about 10% adsense and 90% affiliates. I think the biggest thing is that people think that getting monetized is the end-all, be-all of making money on KZread when it's really not.

Super insightful as always Daniel, thanks for sharing!
knew this channel from, of course, Mango Street. Definitely not disappoint. Thank you for making really valuable and knowledgeable contents. Keep it up!
Love the video! Thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
We are in pursuit of not only building our channel, but learning about the monetization process as well and this video is brilliant. Thank you for your efforts and breaking this down.
Content is king and especially in this time of difficulty (Corona) personal finance is a big deal. Keep up the good work. Love both your channels.
Thanks for your honesty with the numbers 👏 The difference between businesses is crazy 🤯 Keep pushing the upload button!
INSANELY good content. Thanks Daniel. Love Mango Street as well man. Keep it up.
You’re awesome man...💯 Your content is always relevant, ALWAYS.
I love how transparent and genuine you are! Amazing video!
This was super helpful, especially the brand deals. Still contemplating doing them. Thanks!
I've been a subscriber of MangoStreet since nearly the begining. I appreciate your style and content on that channel...BUT this channel is really nailing the mark. I appreciate how you are sharing "how the sausage is made" without being the usual total click bait most channels are producing.
Thanks Daniel for the video and the insights. I’ve been working on a “big” KZread channel but could never compare cpm with another industry. Impressive.
Only a few minutes in and this is worth a like. Huge value in small time. Thanks man.
KEEP IT GOING! Love this channel!
Great breakdown, thanks!
Super helpful! Thank you :)
Love the content and the honesty and the bunch of information you tell us about how to survive!
Love your transparency. Bold and amazing content that you don’t typically see on KZread!
Definitely didn't expect those results! Thanks for sharing man!
KZread recommended me to this channel a few weeks back. I've been watching and subscribed I JUST found out about Mangostreet from one of your youtube stories or something the other day. Loving both channels!

Love your honesty and content! Also I never fast forward an ad from Mango cus y’all be producing the $h!t out of an ad. They are the most fun to watch! They are the Super Bowl ads equivalent for KZread 👌🏽
Wow! All this transparency, so rare to see on this platform! Thank you so much for sharing! I have not watched your videos in a while but I feel like tonight is the night to get caught up on all the knowledge! Thank you for sharing Daniel :)
Wow, your the first guy I know ever to be this transparent, thank it's amazing
Daniel, Thanks so much for this video. I really appreciate your transparency. I have been on a journey to discover how I can create the life I want by doing what I love and it's videos like yours that have been so helpful. I have been following your Mango street channel for about 2 years and it was one of the channels that inspired me to start my own journey. So thanks for everything you do to inspired other creatives like myself.
This was soooo helpful. Thanks Daniel, for the clear and succinct explanation on this topic.
This kind of insight into the world of a KZreadr is rare. As an outsider, we rarely get access to figures like this. Thank you for sharing such valuable information!
It'll be fun to see how this looks a year from now. Excited to see how you do, Daniel!
Thanks for sharing your details! You are solid!
Daniel, just wanted to say you’re killing it with this new channel! I’ve watched Mango Street videos since you guys started in 2017 and I’m glad these videos are also funny, interesting, succinct, and creative AF. I work in finance but side hustle as a photographer so I feel like you guys are speaking to my soul. Keep up the great work!

This is really inspiring for someone trying to make it in the personal finance niche! Love the channel, I've subscribed!
This video was SUPER encouraging! As someone who has a small channel (25K subs) I am always curious to know what ad revenue looks like for much larger channels (especially from ones that focus on high quality arts/music). So thank you Daniel for the video and the info, it was eye opening and fun to see :) -Dean

Dude this was super inspiring actually. I’ve got a 2nd channel that I use for lead generation that will make me well into 6 figures with only 1k subs, but I’d love to get this channel going and monetized. I’ll be watching your growth for sure.
Daniel love the insights here and congrats on the revenue from this channel. Cool to see you both branching out.
Really nice video that was nice and clear thank you my friend
Really enjoyed the video and appreciate the transparency, subscribed and look forward to seeing more!
I really expected the ad revenue on mango street to be much higher. What you're making on this channel is bonkers in comparison.

Wow. Literally mind blown! So awesome you shared the real numbers of both channels. I started to be able to monetize this year and definitely super interesting learning about all this. Thanks Daniel!
Randomly stumbled on this channel a few days ago and now I am hooked on the content you're producing. So much value and transparency. If you could try making a video on POD sites such as Redbubble, Teespring, merch by Amazon etc. Would love to see your experience before diving in myself.
wow, that was very interesting! thanks for sharing. Might take a crack at KZread one of these days
honest and informative, much appreciated : )
I like how you (Daniel) talk, that is why I have subscribed and turned on the notifications.
Great video and honesty! loved it!
Awesome Video, nice to know what goes on behind the scenes.
As a small channel myself, this is SO inspiring!!
Great idea for a video. I started KZread this year and I love this info.
Highly enjoyed the video Dan! Thanks for the insight
Great video! It was great seeing the comparison between this channel's revenue and the Mango Street's--as a small KZreadr, I'm always looking for ways to make money on the platform so I can make it a large source of income, so thanks for the info and advice! Could you make a video on the different youtube genres and their typical CPM?
Thank you man! Your videos are so helpful!
Totally unexpected differences between your channels! Thanks for sharing the data it really gives the insight and helps to decide what to spend our time in the future :)
Wow congrats man!! Smashing it, really interesting to see this insight and really appreciate the transparency 👌

Man I really appreciate these kinds of videos and how transparent you are! I’m trying to start a channel of my own and it’s really inspiring to see that there is money to be made for smaller channels!
Time to start a finance KZread channel! 😂I remember when Mango Street first came out and you guys blew up quick! I figured you were bringing in more from ad revenue than that. Glad you've been able to make it work!
Thank you for sharing Daniel!Hope everybody here becomes successful on KZread.
Damn! This is pure quality! I recommend every KZreadr to watch this

Thanks Daniel for this open and honest insight. Quality.
Great info and awesome you share this info. I watch mango street and actually found your new channel from finance videos recommending it. Great job diversifying!!
Great Daniel! Can't wait to see your brand deal video!
I finally know the difference between RPM and CPM. Thanks, from one Daniel to another.
Thanks for being so transparent in showing your income. I love that KZreadrs are being so open about sharing how much youtube is paying. Makes me wanna quit the 9-5 job and do this instead. Very inspiring.
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing Daniel. Very interesting to see the differences
